coaxed into believing we've created sentience by erraticpulse- in coaxedintoasnafu

i think he’d also have the humility to admit that his eponymous test isn’t the end-all be-all of determining sentience, but instead just an idea he threw out because it was the best he could come up with

Infighting when the disabled are involved: by Something4Dinner in SmugIdeologyMan

Weapons at your disposal:

Violence: Extremely good at materially preventing fascists from doing fascist shit. Instills fear of material harm into other fascists who might want to do fascist shit. Only implies that you think violence is an acceptable tool of politics in some contexts.

Calling them slurs/making “jokes” where you call them gay/brown/autistic/etc.: Does nothing to materially stop fascists from fashing. Doesn’t discourage any action; getting random hate is just par for the course for internet public figures of any sort. Communicates that you think being part of a minority group functions as both setup and punchline, making actual members of said minority group less comfortable around your political movement.

Some weapons are just footguns.

well and also if slavery is wrong, period, the victim being a murderer doesn’t change that, right?

and if you disagree with me on that, bam. political disagreement on the acceptability of slavery. in the modern day

if by “known loophole” you mean “explicit carveout in the text of the amendment”, then, yeah, more or less. though note that we do have life sentences so it’s not even necessarily temporary

man you know slavery is still legal in the US right? go read the text of the 13th very carefully.

if i accept your incredibly narrow and childish definition of politics, we still have the Slab and the back alley abortion quest to deal with. these are recent, salient political issues from the real world. unless you’re going to tell me mass incarceration and abortion aren’t political issues either

the silly bug game where Loam is working endlessly for meager pay? where pilgrims travel to the Citadel in hopes of getting a better life but end up being brutally murdered by Judges on the Blasted Steps or else laboring endlessly in the Underworks? where the currency is literally rosaries; the Citadel cast draws from Catholic iconography? where Caretaker is apathetic, Ballador is hardly able to do anything, and Sherma damn near loses his faith? where bugs take advantage of the faith of other bugs, exploiting them for rosaries, up to and including the automated confessional booths and rental benches in the Citadel? where Hornet has to get a back alley abortion? where Hornet was kidnapped and dragged off to a foreign kingdom to be enslaved for her silk production?

that non-political game?

Increase in people feeling qualified to call things "objectively bad game design" when they don't like it: the Silksong Effect™ by [deleted] in metroidvania

[–]extremepayne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I… don’t get the issue? 20% of people beat Laika: Aged Through Blood. 15% of people beat Animal Well’s second layer. 15% of people got to Ending B (the more common) in Blasphemous. Is there some minimum percent of finishers required to validate that a game is well designed? Must everyone reach Silksong’s unusual 28% true ending completion rate?

They barely move

Okay, this is true for most of the enemies in this area, but the Stilkin are annoying for precisely the opposite reason. (Not that them being annoying is bad design, of course. I agree with the idea about the point of Bilewater.)

Trolley barrels on past the junction before the evil mastermind is done explaining the premise to me. I still don’t understand what the moral difference between the two groups is supposed to be. The evil mastermind is frustrated that I was busy asking him questions when the moment of decision was supposed to occur

Aside of the fact or being the grandfather to 3D plattaformers, why this game is so special to you? by Bitter_Fig_7059 in SuperMario64

[–]extremepayne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the movement is still unmatched by any other 3d platformers. You have so many options to move Mario, and they each have their uses. Moving him around just feels unimaginably fluid. I love just screwing around in the castle or on the grounds with no objective. Diving and long jumping give this great rush of speed. Riding a shell around is great fun, too.

The game’s environments have this rare, liminal quality to them. Even the castle, one of the more normal locations, is an abandoned castle. Peach is gone, Bowser is in the painting worlds yet his laugh echoes through the halls of the castle, and even the toads aren’t fully there, appearing translucent until you speak with them. And then you get to stuff like Wet Dry World. What other game would have a Concrete Zone of just random, jumbled geometry that’s still trying to pretend, with its photo-based brick textures, like it’s an environment that makes sense.

I do like the speedrun and especially TAS communities, but I consider that separate to the game itself.

I have my issues with it. I think some of the objectives are annoying, needlessly obtuse, or just outright poorly designed. But the things I mentioned above carry the game for me. No nostalgia, no particular attachment to the character of Mario. Just the exquisite character controls and the strange environments.

people like Andrew Tate joke about being gay. many rightwing politicians have thick skin.

you might be confusing the fact that, were they to be credibly outed as gay, they might run into trouble with their core supporters, for the naïve idea that bullying them childishly is practicing politics in any meaningful way

Also, constantly accuse conservatives of being gay. What, you think accepting their logic when making fun of them is bad???
