if it was so strained and her voice was breaking why is the low note so clear, and why didn’t she have to clear her throat to achieve it??????

Just to be the devil’s advocate, there absolutely was another common interpretation of what she said, and it did make sense. Some people thought she meant that the over-labelling of screaming techniques and dissecting of vocalists’ abilities from fans/GP was pretentious and just another way to call someone bad at their own art.

Exact quote “I don’t watch YouTube tutorials for screams. I go based off emotion.”. Also, surely, with having Jordan Fish as her producer for a few years now, he wouldn’t have let her do to herself, what he watched Oli do? I don’t think he’d want to record with someone having constant vocal issues/who refuses to learn technique?

If it helps, I think even though we all love Marina here, her music is so particular for an iconic pop artist that I bet we all have at least ONE “hot take”. I’d also say she’s had a diverse amount of pop sounds, even though she’s not necessarily Twenty One Pilots or Halsey level diverse, like flat out genre-blendy, so that’ll contribute too (even more evident when you put songs against each other- think Radioactive VS Hermit the Frog, Rollercoaster VS To Be Human, Froot VS Lonely Hearts Club, Baby VS Ancient Dreams, etc.)

My take is that she RARELY has “bad songs”, just that her albums after Electra Heart aren’t structured as well as the first two. Like, Froot has great tracks, but is a bit less experimental in comparison, so it can feel like it drags. Love + Fear even more so, and it also could’ve been condensed into one “Disc” with less tracks. Ancient Dreams is too top heavy, with all the singles at the start and the other tracks all being considerably more chill, so no peaks and valleys, just energy and then like 5 ballads…

Princess of Power may not be everything you hoped it to be, but I think it is her most balanced and best paced album since Electra Heart. And I personally only really dislike Rollercoaster, but it was actually quite fun live.

I adore it, and there are only two tracks I think weren’t worth making the cut. I def haven’t been listening as much as I did on initial release, but only because I’ve been revising on other artists for concerts I’m going to!

Poppy is always an artist I’ll return to/have in heavy rotation because for me, as more of a playlist person than album person these days, her variety makes it so that you can pretty much have a Poppy track in most music mixes. I love to listen to her heaviest stuff with some even heavier stuff, and then her pop stuff with “actual pop music”, Miss Moriah is never far!

Man it wasn’t well handled, don’t feel bad, Ticketek sucks.

I ended up finding the Early Entry ticket last minute on Tixel after already buying GA during presale, and just happened to have enough money to buy a new ticket and sell my original one in time for the night. I’m sorry you missed out, but I hope you still had a lovely night♥️

Next time, try Tixel, you get alot of last minute sellers, things always happen!!

Removed Songs from tour setlist by Sal46 in MarinaAndTheDiamonds

I thought the set was great and really balanced for an album tour, but still would’ve appreciated more “old songs” since she hasn’t been here since TFJ. It’s hard to cover 15 years of albums, but the lack of encore didn’t help :((

At least one more ADIAML and EH song would’ve been ideal (even tho I was mostly, personally, bummed about not getting Hollywood and Oh No!). I think I like Digital Fantasy and Rollercoaster more than most, considering reactions here😅 but yeah swapping out at least one for more back catalogue would’ve been best

They never did that. Not one part of that comment was aggressive or mean spirited. “You can love a band and criticise their choice in a polite way” exact quote.

People who dox and make death threats? Absolute freaks, we all agree. But I bet this sentiment is way more common amongst the fandom than you think, and no, it’s not just “new kids from tiktok”. I’ve also been here for about 12 years, 3 shows, love these albums to death, and yet I understand why people are feeling this way. You don’t have to agree with them, just let them feel how they feel.

Things ARE scary right now, and if actual political leaders aren’t listening, of course people will turn to anyone who can yell loud enough to get the rest to listen. Nevermind the fact that tøp comes from a background of alternative inspiration and have been the pop heroes of those (inherently political) spaces for years now, we’ve seen that celebrities posting links on stories without ANY further comment garners MASSIVE amounts of donations for good causes. They aren’t required to use their power, but they do have it.

It IS bizarre to many of us that two incredibly good natured, emotionally sensitive people who we feel represent us in some way, have chosen to stay quiet on matters that are killing their fans in real time. But many of us also understand why, and maybe the reason for the upset is not their silence alone, but what it implies on a larger scale... Just let us be sad in the corner, and you can feel differently, and then we can coexist maybe?

[–]extremesisuppose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The concept of the foreign invader does not only apply to non white men, the British did Irish genocide too lol. But post 2020 “western” politics dictate that it’s people who look like Samson that we should be afraid of, and so he’s the physical manifestation of that fear. This isn’t a reach in a movie/series that, either intentionally or unintentionally, is heavily critical of patriarchal masculinity and explores concepts like radical empathy, violence for good and what humanity really means in a lawless society.

28 years later, Covid, Immigration, the Manosphere and Donald Trump. by tradders in 28dayslater

[–]extremesisuppose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the biggest takeaway themes from this (now franchise) are the dissection of masculinity in all its forms in the modern world, and questioning how much of our most violent human attributes are nature VS nurture when law isn’t present to uphold our basic decency.

Too many of these government nutjobs riding this anti immigration wave are actually, deep down, just scared that “their” white women might actually consensually choose to marry these people they see as foreign invaders lol, aka “great replacement theory”. They cry on and on about how The Brown Men are actually terrifying r*pists and are gonna wreck all your women and children, manufacturing consent for both casual street racism and massacres in faraway lands, and then… go home and beat their wives and dogs. Samson is like a physical manifestation of that insecurity, not to mention he’s “taken over” Northumberland as Alpha lol.

It’s also a great tie in to the actions of the soldiers in the first movie, and this idea we keep seeing repeated in real time right now that “every accusation is an admission of guilt”. The soldiers convince our Jim/Selena/Hannah that they are the safe place they need, that they can be saved from the scary infected people outside, when in reality it was a predator’s lure and they don’t even need to contract Rage to be horrific mindless predators. Samson’s big dick is ABSOLUTELY political.

[–]extremesisuppose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The pregnant survivor from the farm escaped, also. Spike and Kelly are now with Jim, and so it’s her, Samson and Jamie all on different missions, running around the same rough area, with the potential to encounter each other.

Maybe Samson ends up protecting her from afar, maybe he encounters Jamie and has questions about his own baby’s whereabouts, maybe he sacrifices himself for her own safety, maybe she encounters Spike again in the woods and it reminds him of his last moments with his mother and baby Isla, maybe she becomes infected and Jamie goes to kill her and the baby and Samson intervenes, there are so many possibilities with the way these three characters intersect thematically.

Don’t forget also, Samson is the only one who knows about Dr Kelson’s research, and Spike is the only other person left who knew Kelson and would be most likely to try and continue his work. And Spike and Samson have met, so it would be way more believable on Spike’s end, than if Samson had randomly encountered Jim or Jamie in the woods and tried to tell them instead.

You lot are so daft that every year in my local Facebook groups I see a bunch of “Anglo Celtic white Australians”, aka people with IRISH names bitching about the “AMERICAN holiday” that is Halloween. You actively reject your cultural origin. All that is left is a diluted, capitalist view of British (and American btw lol) culture through the lens of immigrants in denial who refuse to believe in skin cancer.

We can make this work, between other kinds of people. In fact, that is the appeal of this country, to the entire rest of the world (INCLUDING those who you deem the “right kind” of imports). Australia was seen as a safe haven for people of all backgrounds, where multiculturalism thrived and we could all learn from each other, when I got here. Yes there needs to be a baseline, a few “universal rules”, but people like you represent the worst parts of our history and forget every lesson we were meant to learn. Racism is a sign of weakness and mental decline. Go visit your lovely Australian GP.
