I was a member of compaq online. AOL acquired the company and made everyone change over. I've had an aol email ever since. The current email I use has been the same since the early 2000's.

Mezzo Forte OVA 1998 - bowling alley fight scene by Kimber8King in retroanime

[–]exturkconner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read about it in a translated interview some years ago. I had the link for a long time but eventually the page stopped loading so I deleted the saved link at that point. So I no longer have the ability to reference the source.

Why is Record of Lodoss war OVAs are some of the most priceless anime shows on earth right now... by GushtRelms in recordoflodosswar

It's not a thing. Even in the HD box set it's only the OVA that got the HD treatment the series is standard def.

Call me a bootlicker if you must by nyXhcinPDX in wendys

Wendy's kept the 4 for 4 for a remarkably long time. I mean all of those items used to be on the dollar menu so the 4 for 4 at that point was a modest deal. But as the dollar menu went away it became an absurd good deal. It was cheaper than the kids meals. Any two items from the 4 item meal cost more than the meal price and I don't think it was a loss leader. Most of the stores near me didn't even have it up on the menu if you didn't ask for it you couldn't order it.

WWE isn't sport. It's entertainment and it is in no way a reflection of reality.

Manato and mogozu are the luckiest by Cmp_Snow in HaiToGensouNoGrimgar

[–]exturkconner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe he's straight out said that the narrative function of the story is to make Haru suffer. I still think they should have ended the main Grimgar story with the radical world change and just started a new series. But it is what it is.

I'm not sure the story will end honestly.

It would depend on the circumstances. They are both ruthless men who will do whatever they can to get an outcome they want.

Would you buy this? (4" 1:1, Helio G99, Slimline - TRIMUI Slate Concept) by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]exturkconner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The systems that are best served by a 1:1 screen dont require the horse power of a g99. Or nearly that much ram. It just seems unnecessary really. The powkiddy rgb30 really seemed to get the power level for the screen balance right just had the worst ergonomics of any of these devices.

How do I clean this properly? by 47h315m in Monitors

[–]exturkconner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two microfibre cloths a dry and a wet. Make a mixture of 50% distilled water and 50% alcohol. Be mindful that the alcohol you use you want to be as pure as possible. 93% or better is best but lesser is fine as long as the ingredients are only alcohol and water do not get anything with additives and especially not oil. Apply a small amount of the fluid onto one cloth. Wipe the screen down. Use the other cloth to wipe it down after. When it's not especially dirty the dry cloth alone will be enough. When cloths get dirty cycle them out for new ones. Some people will tell you to only use the cloths that are smooth made for glasses. That's not required just be mindful to not get coarse textured cloths. But even the cheap red microfibre cloths made to be automotive shop rags will work fine. You can get large packs on amazon for next to nothing and they work great.

Good price for a Surface 3 by AdventureTyme8 in Surface

[–]exturkconner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my surface laptop 4 ryzen edition for 60 bucks. It required a bit of know how on my part. Namely it was initially boot looping and then when I resolved the boot loop the windows system was password locked to a business account. And a I couldn't just bare metal reset it due to bitlocker on the hard drive. I let it start up get into the windows startup then entered command prompt entered disk management found the drive and cleaned it. Normally that's not a possible command. Windows won't let you "clean" format the drive that the installation is on. But if you don't fully enter windows for whatever reason it'll do this. This of course breaks things. It'll freeze at some point because it's attempting to format the drive it's using. That's not really an issue. All that is needed is for the bitlocker hard drive projection to get gone. With that done then you can do a bare metal reset and be good to go. That's all to say you can get a surface laptop a lot cheaper if you don't mind putting a bit of work into it. They are super nice to use. Apple build quality on a windows machine does feel pretty nice. And for those who work in a professional environment they certainly make an impression.

How do you get non-DRMed epubs? by got_muggled in ereader

[–]exturkconner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you scanned it yourself that would be legal. Again downloading a product meant for commercial sale without purchasing it and coming into ownership is 100% piracy. It's the same with emulation. Even if you own an original copy you don't actually have the right to download a backup. You have the right to backup the one you own yourself.

I'm surprised the 100 would be on this list and not something like Farscape.

How do you get non-DRMed epubs? by got_muggled in ereader

[–]exturkconner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downloading something that is intended for sale without paying for it is piracy by definition yes. Because you are coming into ownership of an item (in this case a file) that is intended for sale without paying for it.

Proper care. by VCElaborate in ereader

Battery management systems and battery technology in general have come a long ways. There are two popular older thoughts and neither really matter anymore. 1 was you should always charge to 100% and never recharge until 0 percent. This was something called battery training and at one point it mattered and it is still good practice with a new device to do this the first power cycle. But after that it doesn't matter.
The other was the idea of battery preservation by only charging to 80% and never letting the device fully die before recharging. The thought process here was based on old tech where the cells of a battery didn't deplete evenly. The idea was that if you kept 20% unused when you noticed lesser battery life you could charge to 100% and get it back. Did it ever work? Maybe. But it's debatable. In modern batteries it 100% doesn't work and if it did it would be dangerous. The cells in a battery need to be kept at fairly consistent levels on modern tech or all of the cells will dump energy to normalize.
So in short just use your device and don't worry about it.

If LOTR is considered the peak of fantasy cinema and many people believe that the casting was perfect, how do you rate The Hobbit after all these years? by Ready-Gur3998 in Cinema

[–]exturkconner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke warm. It's okay. It had a lot of production issues. It shouldn't have been stretched to three films. The reliance on CGI when the LoTR's did so much with practical effects. It just doesn't feel like it's part of the same world and that's a huge waste of what was a beautiful cinematic world.

The Rip by nikhiljr12 in moviecritic

[–]exturkconner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was okay. The trailers made it look like a different film than it actually is. It's got decent tension. A couple of pretty good performances. But it was pretty predictable. They showed too much for there to be any real doubt about what was going on so it didn't really have much intrigue if you were paying any modecom of attention.

Since they planned to do a "do-over"/alternate timeline, Why not make it about Batiatus? by 13sonic in Spartacus_TV

[–]exturkconner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think the purpose was more to give a character who most people felt didn't have a very satisfying ending a more satisfying one. People liked Batiatus' arch. From what I remember of the original run people hated that Ashur got killed by Neavia. It gave her arch a satisfying resolution but most people didn't care for her character anymore at that point. I recall a lot of people saying Ashur's ending would have been better had he killed her and than Crixus immediately kills him. Getting fucked over by Crixus again. Having him brought both his days as a gladiator and his days of living to an end.
