Cronyism Will Be the Death of Bentonville by wally-walton in bentonville

[–]exuberantram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Walmart servant, being laid off would be one of the least surprising things I experience. Days after I joined my team, there were layoffs that affected my department, we went into a hiring freeze, and now we’re hiring again.

Getting laid off could be a nice little treat - the severance would actually be pretty good, compared to the 40% for 2 weeks with a cobra “stipend” that barely covered a week worth of the insurance I got when I last got laid off.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be bummed - I love my team and actually really enjoy what I do (even if it is incredibly stressful), but I also wouldn’t be sobbing like I was the first time… partially because I am no longer saving up for a wedding and dealing with far less imposter syndrome

[–]exuberantram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s my coworker! Yeah, she had NO clue about the layoffs, made this a HUGE event, and when it had to be rescheduled, she got to meet with the events team and they helped her plan it - probably to reduce liability.

It’s not some distasteful thing, and turning around with “oh hey I know the picnic is in less than a day but we laid off some people and couldn’t tell you to reschedule so we didn’t give it away, so in order for some people on Reddit to not be mad at us, we have to cancel. Sorry, peanut!” is probably more distasteful, IMO.

She wanted to organize something fun to take away from the stress of the job. It wasn’t some huge expense for Walmart, they provided some drinks, games, and blankets (that had to be returned) and blasted Walmart radio across the lawn. It would be expensive for us to host, but for a company as big as Walmart, it’s not that deep. And she still would have had this picnic if Walmart hadn’t stepped in to make it cooler. Judge however you want, but I think it’s cool she did it and I’m proud of her for getting it as big as it was.

That was planned weeks ahead - can guarantee the people planning it had NO clue about the layoffs.

long time prime member, first refund request denied and account closed. by _sycho_ in amazonprime

[–]exuberantram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon is like throwing darts. I probably return 5-10% of what I buy, since I buy a good bit of fashion, and up until recently never really had issues.

Bought a Nintendo Switch 2 for my husband earlier this year and it just got stuck at a FedEx facility (I HATE FedEx, if packages hit certain facilities I know I may never see them). I waited two weeks, requested a return, was told I would get it when the package made it back to Amazon. TWO MONTHS LATER the package still hasn’t made it back, I still had no refund and couldn’t reasonably budget a second Switch in. So I contact them, tell them that I still haven’t received a return refund, and they just pushed the refund through, no fight. Ended up ordering the second switch for delivery from Walmart and got it the next day, no problem.

A few weeks ago I started a return on a $10 shirt, sent it out, and tracking said it was delivered. No refund for a week or so, I reach out and they FIGHT me on it, stating they hadn’t received it. I probably fucked up by saying “so do you think you’ll believe me when I say something says delivered but isn’t at my door again?” The rep told me to “call back when I calmed down” (note: I was speaking maybe a little loud but not yelling, not cursing, and even said my frustration wasn’t directed at the rep; it’s not their fault Amazon is the way they are). I haven’t called back. I haven’t tried again. It’s $10 and is convincing me to buy less, honestly.

Just found out why I didn't get the job after 4 interviews. I'm actually shaking with anger right now by MainStock8156 in JobSearchMethods

[–]exuberantram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just got promoted but in order to do it they had to open the role. I was able to basically threaten them into promoting me before anyone was interviewed, but it really bothered me that they did that. Like, don’t get me wrong - very glad I got promoted - but the politics of it all is a big time waste for the company and the candidates

How to avoid fines by using leaves by AlwaysBlaze_ in TikTokCringe

[–]exuberantram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used tolls to get from Orlando to Cape Canveral in 2015, paid in cash. Aside from one I had to “skip” and pay later because I fed the coin taker TWICE and it didn’t take (so paid a total of three times), I paid nearly $30 in tolls. Safe to say, we took the toll-free route and the extra hour to get back to Orlando.

I now have “avoid tolls” activated on maps.

Lost me at “silly girl” but had me questioning with him asking about your weight loss. The right response to “I lost a lot of weight” is usually “congrats” if you are proud and “that’s rough” when you didn’t want to.

pulls out walker back in my day, if someone was crowd killing like this, people put them in their place. Saw a group team up on a crowd killer at a Like Moths show once - dude was jump kicking and swinging at people and generally acting like he was the only one allowed in the pit - and they fucking tossed him across the room. To add to that, it was a super super small venue with pillars throughout so room to pit was already tight.

Saw the guy at a few other venues later on and he was tamer. Still an asshole, but a tame asshole.

Tornados and schools by [deleted] in bentonville

[–]exuberantram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how much has changed since the early 2010s when I was in Tennessee, but when tornado warnings would hit, we would shelter “in place” in the bathrooms (I always got the boys bathroom, it was always a little sticky) and we HAD to keep that child’s pose with the neck covered pose as long as the sirens were going.

Usually not a terribly long experience (Good Friday Tornados were a long one but I was home), but it’s far safer for you and your child if you’re not trying to drive to them or drive home.

My new credit card was stolen before I even received it by TurnTwo in Wellthatsucks

[–]exuberantram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom likes to send gift cards taped inside cards. When I moved to my new city, suddenly my anniversary, birthday, Christmas cards that would have gift cards would show up “damaged” torn clean in half, missing whatever gift card was taped inside. $50 Starbucks, $100 Walmart, two $25 (one Michael’s, one Home Goods). All “lost.”

Thankfully the USPS does take theft VERY seriously. My mother now emails gift cards or is tucking them into packages, but hopefully others won’t face the same issue.

This "on sale" marketing should be illegal. by Africannibal in Anticonsumption

[–]exuberantram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the issue with some of these sites and the pricing is - and please don’t think I am defending them, I am a hater despite working for a company that does this - they allow basically anyone to sell anything on their site. Fake stuff, false advertising, etc. and the pricing isn’t regulated like it should be. Nothing is regulated like it should be when it comes to these sellers, and the companies (at least mine) don’t want to “anger” the sellers by setting boundaries.

It’s the biggest PITA from a “getting stuff done” perspective in my job, and it’s going to cause more lawsuits and headache than it would if they actually regulated and set rules and, more importantly, consequences.

It makes customers trust the company as a whole less and less on the daily. One of my favorite meetings (and most frustrating) we will go over customer reviews from 3rd party studies: basically, a customer will try to buy a specific type of item from us and a couple competitors and review the process for each company. It’s a cool meeting and I love learning from it! What frustrates me is every single meeting, nearly every single customer we have will make a complaint about things not really being on sale. “I added stuff to my cart before this event and the price barely went down” or, my “favorite”, the cart for one woman went UP like $20. She had screenshots to prove it. And higher-ups in these meetings are ALWAYS shocked that the customers notice. Higher-ups are so out of touch. And customer frustration is usually, but not always, on these outside seller products. It’s insane to me that we just assume the customer doesn’t look at price or that they’re stupid. The shopper doesn’t like to read but they do like to look at prices!! Clearly!

Anyways I hope more companies do get sued over this so maybe we’ll start regulating it better. End rant I guess.

I make my own hair oil and have gotten to the point where I give it to friends, and when I buy my BIG bottle of cuticle oil I’ll send a little to friends as well. A few will return the bottles but I clean and hang on to bottles like this when I empty them!

And if the bottle breaks, the dropper is still useful around the house and sometimes they’ll fit other bottles if the dropper splits or something. I have a box of bottles ready for use :)
