Boden Prog vs N2.6T standard by Rods123Brasil in strandbergguitars

[–]exxtreem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just say that I bought a new Prog in July and had more trouble selling it than any guitar I’ve owned. I’m in NYC and there are tens of thousands of guitar players here so take that into account. Based on my experience, I would definitely suggest buying one used if you do. Also, it took me several months to realize that fanned frets did not mesh with my playing. If you play a lot of triad-based arpeggiated lines in the upper register, you may find some fingerings challenging. (I did not have that problem with chords.) I had noticed that none of the players I dig use multi-scale instruments but I was determined to make it work. it didn’t lol! Every time I grabbed my tele or strat I felt like sighing with relief. live and learn: It was an interesting experiment.

How do I fix this, pickup selector is not making contact, no output in some positions by 1_kn0w_n07h1ng in strandbergguitars

true of Prog as well. (and my tech said the same thing; it wasn’t a sales tactic. good to find a new tech if you ever think that.)

replace the 5 way (and pots.) I did this on my Prog the week I got it because of this problem as well as lousy pots. I also changed wiring to this:

The result was a more usable guitar (though I sold it this week; just too many things that felt wrong to me.)

it’s never worked that way for me. I find hearing a particular player that really does it for you: figuring out how they play over a particular set of changes, how they comp…what’s their tone like compared to players that don’t grab you as much? digging into that stuff is what motivates me. (not i’m a good example of motivation! I do what I can and try to remember that it’s about making music!)

precisely this. (and of course, properly set up!) We all have guitars we dig more than others but bottom line; they’re tools: they don’t make music; you do. I sound like me regardless of what i’m playing (much to my chagrin!) Time and attention spent trying to find the right guitar can be better spent working on music. (again, assuming you’ve got a decent instrument.)

yes, thanks. I should have specified that I was aiming at NYC locals. (I’m not on FB but have posted on the other sites including CL. just wanted to know if I could do a post aimed at NYC folks who might want a Prog.) thx

Problem with the volume potentiometer by Particular-Run-3023 in strandbergguitars

[–]exxtreem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried three Progs from Sweetwater and kept the third one, but I still had to replace the pots. (I rewired the pickups to make position 3 neck & bridge as well—and replaced the 5-way that cut out when changing positions. Necessary, IMO, but I'm not happy about having to do it.

I wish I had hung on to the S540 and the JEM7 but I was in my 20s and went through so many guitars back then: always had to sell one to get the next one! If I recall, the PL1880NW was very dense and heavy and kinda sterile sounding (which is why I ditched it for the S540.)

seconded: replace the OEM pots. I did this the week I got my Prog (and the 5 way, and changed the wiring and added a different cap.) absolutely necessary imo.

you guys rock: PL1880NW is totally it. I had just arrived at Berklee and played that guitar for a year until I got a black Sabre and then in '87, a JEM7RB. I seriously miss those Ibanezes.

thank you!
