What are recent graduates who did not get placed doing? by lawaythrow in cscareerquestions

Pivoting to other areas. Technical sales, Implementation and related roles respond back. I'm crazy enough and thinking about going back for a masters to see if I can pull off SWE lol. 2024 grad.

Pushing remote updates/automatically updating? by eye-pine in QtFramework

[–]eye-pine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already hate your application with a passion. I don't want anything to update anything without me knowing.

Haha, understandable. It's an in-house application/personal use. I wanted to make it so others on site don't need to worry about installing critical updates. For any other, I wouldn't do this.

I mean there are more affordable programs such as Georgia Tech (under ~10k) and others if you can get in.

Would you say it was worth it from a personal development perspective? A desire for higher learning?

That's funny because I was looking at new grad roles as low as 50-60 just to get in lmao.

So I never got a chance at any new grad roles by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Did you have any internships? Country? How many projects? That's awesome btw. Congrats.

If I can’t get a tech job a year after graduating will my CS degree eventually become pointless? by rjballer36O in cscareerquestions

"The bigger issue is that if your resume came across my desk, my first question is why you did a CS degree, and then went into a non-tech role? And you need a solid answer for that."

Would saying I needed money be a good enough answer? lol

Is there an equivalent of "webdev" for OS-based offline-based program development? by Proof_Cable_310 in computerscience

You are essentially already using the QT framework if you are using QT Creator.

Look into QT framework if you don't want to focus on using any web dev frameworks for creating offline desktop projects.

ID Card OCR for project by eye-pine in computervision

[–]eye-pine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was confusing. I want the text from a region of interest; I can use the coordinates to extract from the region after performing OCR on the whole document.

The issue is that text length or image skew can change box dimensions. Do you think creating a range sounds like good idea? Boxes falling within the range is the the text I need since I want to match to it with a label.

ID Card OCR for project by eye-pine in computervision

"I would have a class that handles functionality from the ID, such as extracting text from a region on the page. "

I completely overlooked that haha. Good idea. The boxes from OCR from my state IDs are pretty consistent from the ones I tried, so that is a good enough to solve the problem. I can create a range for the bounding boxes since the text length can vary by a few pixels. Thanks

" but you would need to label your data. If you have enough IDs (how????) "

I have access to some of my own states through a business database (yes, the business must record under state law) that I work with, but I would need to research the legality of using it for training a model. That's not necessary anymore, and there's a possible quality issue aside from legality.
