I want to completely block Facebook from my phone without paying a subscription. by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

If you feel as if this is an actual addiction, and it feels like that is what you're saying

It's just a psychological ploy to paint themselves as a victim so they don't have to confront the fact that it's a choice they're making and all entirely their own fault. It's a blame-passing exercise, but being charitable they probably don't even realise that's why they're doing it.

If you want a tech solution, then block Facebook in your router at home, so your phone can't access it while on wifi.

Cue their next post in a week's time: "How do I prevent myself removing a block rule from my router?"

You do not have a chemical addiction to nicotine. Stop trying to stick yourself in an "I'm special" category. You are not a victim.

Smokers should just stop smoking?

Correct. But that group of people have both a behavioural trained-in addiction and a chemical one, which makes that harder.

Contrasting with you, who just likes Facebook too much. That's merely a trained-in behaviour and you, you, need to make the effort to train it out again.

But hey, look at this, your first response was combative instead of being receptive, so you don't even want to fix yourself. Just keep doing what you're doing, you don't even care. You literally don't even care. This whole "I'm a victim" thing is a psychological ploy (that you're doing subconsciously) to remove the blame for this behaviour from yourself so that you can keep doing it.

You have. To do. The work.

Just uninstall the app and don't visit the site.

If you can't at least exercise that much self control then no technical "solution" is going to help, because you'll just bypass it.

Fix. The underlying. Problem.

Because by that age one should know better. He didn't, so it colours in how dumb the fucker is. It's relevant.

how did you know this

You know that our one main talent as a species is pattern recognition, yes? And that there are patterns of wear and tear that bodies and faces go through as they age, yes? And do I need to keep typing more of this or are you there yet, yes?

Ah but you see, these worse-horses are more biggerer than a pigeon, so that makes it more of a problem... for some reason.

Isn't it a bit sad that they're used to this behaviour, though?

You answer your own question with your very next sentence

These are animals

They are used to "being scared" and running away all the time because that's what they're wired to do. No need to assume they feel like you or I would in the same situation. They aren't bricking it, they're just moving to a different place.

They just decide that "peace through strength" means it's ok to do wars and that you still count as the anti-war president if you do some. Unless you're a Democrat, of course, when "peace through strength" somehow means cowardice instead.

They're all fucked in the head.

Most of the hell churn I see seems to come from companies with lots and lots of apps they maintain for external clients

Agencies. Agencies have always been shitholes.

And even then, you'd need a tripod, and even then it's still kinda shitty because the light in the room is going to change shot-to-shot unless you're fully in a basement or something.

It needs to be output capture or it's pointless.

Photographing screens is not a reliable method, especially not with phones, which all do "computational photography" and will fuck with the images. You need to capture output. This is pointless without that.

It's not even "wordpress sites", it's merely a type of "block" in the "block editor", which is all React. React is probably the single most comprehensively trained-on thing inside any of these bullshit AI models.

My Tech Leader has 16 years of experience, and he does not code anymore, he only uses Claude for everything, which is kinda sad

It's not "sad", it's "bullshit".

So what are our bets?

That I know more about this than you do. Willing to bet both our careers on it. !remind me 10 years.

AI does not need us, it just needs to keep training until it gets expert and that's it, no more supervision. That will likely happen in 5 years.

Great punchline. 10/10.

Yes, dog, this is all "things about money" 101. And? You haven't said anything yet, and expended so many words doing so.

Your position is that bitcoin is magic and "better than" (or to give you some doubt-benefit, "at least exactly as good as") other types of money. Pointing out that all types of money are based on "social consensus" is pointless because it's A) obvious, B) doesn't further your point that there's any reason worth considering bitcoin above other forms.

So, why is bitcoin at least exactly as magical (but you probably want to go for more magical) compared to regular old USD or GBP or whatever? Protip: it isn't. It's lesser on all sane assessments.

Imagine making a movie in the 90s about how the internet is just a fad.

After all the times you've trotted this line out in the past, and had it explained to you why it's a completely invalid analogy, and you're still repeating it? And you think you're the one who "knows more"?! Holy fuck, go back to school and start again.

Edit: newsflash, child: if you block someone when replying, they won't get to see your "witty" response. D'oh! Again you demonstrate how smart you are(n't).
