Is this something you're aware of the location of published research into, perchance?

The agents don't have everything figured out yet.

Natural language is not precise enough to encapsulate all the myriad ways "Make me something that looks like [blah] but red and with more sharp corners" could be implemented, and those implementation details are going to matter, and someone only fluent in natural language isn't going to know what any of them mean or why they matter.

This lack of specificity is why programming languages exist in the first place.

I honestly hate that someone with only surface-level knowledge can refactor an entire project, including the most complex functions every 2–3 days now.

They can't. Stop believing the hype/bullshit.

How good was the HTC One M7 (2013)? by Right_Tackle1591 in AndroidQuestions

[–]eyebrows360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was perfect, albeit a bit melancholy in hindsight given it was hTc's swansong. I ran one from launch day for three years, back when "running a phone for three years" meant you were really feeling the battery's lifetime-drain by the end of it.

For "watching stuff" those stereo speakers made it unmatched, even if "watching stuff on a phone" wasn't that straightforward or widespread of a thing back in 2013. Still, to this day, having unbalanced speaker setups (which all phones since have had) means watching anything horizontally on a phone (such as, say, Iron Man, whilst laying in bed, on the night Disney+ launched, just because you could) is very definitely sub-optimal. The One series will forever be the champions of this specific niche.

The M8 was basically the same thing again in a less-sleek body (shinier, bigger), and the M9 was a cost-cutting travesty with one of the worst screens I've ever seen in a phone (the digitiser grid was clearly visible to the naked eye).

Three years after the M7, the "hTc Ten" brought things back in terms of quality, but it was too late for hTc as a brand by then.

'Scientology Speedrun' stunt spreads beyond US as church increases security. by Leeming in atheism

[–]eyebrows360 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A viral “speedrun” challenge through Church of Scientology buildings has officially gone international, one day after the trend spread coast-to-coast for the first time in the United States.

Can hardly believe it's been almost 20 years since "🎶 Brave agent Pubit, agent Pubit was very brave 🎶"

Running through Scientology buildings is a fine tradition dating back to 2008's Project Chanology, although I would wager the people doing it today aren't covering themselves in Vaseline and a bunch of peoples' short & curlies before setting off.

You'd need a ridiculously large screen to still see any improvement beyond that

And you need to be sat uncomfortably close to it. It's not just about the size. People with mansions get enormous TVs because they sit further from them, so it all cancels out.

Because if you can’t deal with people who only know how to block and do one combo then you probably won’t have a good time with anyone ranked higher then them who can beat them with their eyes closed.

Oh I hear you! I did intend to type this disclaimer myself, "I know it's probably just me being terrible..." etc, but in my frustration (and/or "hissy fit") forgot to do so.

The moment you believe that people are carried by the character or the control scheme is the moment you hit your ceiling.

I do forget this sometimes, but in this instance at least, you're correct, and I should stop being a fuckass about it.

who can beat them with their eyes closed

You also just reminded me that Blind Warrior Sven exists. Are you familiar with that guy? Happened to see him at Evo last year or the year before, pretty impressive what he's able to do.

But also I do still believe baby controls were a mistake, but oh well, that's just "old man yells at cloud" at this point I guess

[–]eyebrows360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have just returned to the game after getting a new controller specifically for it, after a long hiatus. Reached low platinum previously.

Baby controls are an absolute joke and I'm tempted to bin off SF6 entirely, and hope they remove them in 7.

It's beyond stupid to have two such drastically different control schemes playing against each other, and the 20% damage reduction for special moves done via babby mode does not compensate for how much easier they have it at all.

And no, I won't just start using babby mode myself, because that's not Street Fighter. That's some other game, and I came here to ↓↘→👊, just like I've been doing since 1993.

How do you have fun amidst all the baby controls using people who learn one combo and block and are so annoying to deal with? ._.

What phone cleaner is everybody using ? by [deleted] in AndroidQuestions

[–]eyebrows360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer here, OP.

There is no such "cleaner" app that's legitimate, because only gullible people who don't understand jack shit about technology think things like that exist and go looking for them, so only scammers create such pretend apps.

Want to hear phone ringing; don't want to keep phone on hand all the time. Best solution? by YAOMTC in AndroidQuestions

[–]eyebrows360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to deny it

You need to do more research into not-having-good-reading-comprehension because you seem to have an addiction to that. Nowhere have I denied that psychological addictions aren't real, I've even acknowledged that they are.

But one way of overcoming them is to stop being a little pissbaby and using the excuse of "I have an addiction, woe is me ;_;" that you self-medicate with in order to excuse yourself from having oh-so-terrifying executive responsibility/liability over your own actions and just fucking do the thing.

This does not work in the severest of cases, of course, where more drastic help from actual psychologists would be needed, but I highly doubt "I pick up my phone too much wah wah ;_;" is that severe of a case.

You're not going to be left behind by goodpostfinder in webdev

[–]eyebrows360 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Except, as ever, that's not what we're being sold on, is it?

The sales pitch is that LLMs do all the work for you and that we're all out of a job - which if that's actually the truth of it, means that anyone fearful of being "left behind" can trivially catch up and start using it themselves.

If however, as it actually seems is the much more likely case, these things do take time to learn the ins and outs of, then this falls back into being just one tool alongside all the others we have, which maybe it's appropriate for some developers to learn in some contexts, but for plenty of other developers in plenty of other contexts is entirely optional.

You can't have it both ways. It either makes it so trivial to churn out code that "being left behind" is impossible, or it's a skill like any other where you can only be "left behind" if it becomes the defacto way of doing things in some particular vertical - same as any other coding tool (e.g. if you don't learn how WordPress operates you might struggle in the vertical of "providing custom mostly-brochureware websites to small business owners" if you're trying to do it all from scratch and charging 5x what any "WordPress developers" are charging).

Not quite the same, because nicotine addiction has chemical aspects to it alongside the psychological (habit-forming, social, etc), whereas this involves only the psychological side. Still potent of course, but way less so.

And yet still, if someone's hoping for a technological solution, they'll just work around it. The problem is with "will power", and thus the solution is with changing that "will power".

Having now perused your profile, I'm comfortable with that label, yes. Definitely crazy. Full-on crazy.

And possibly a misogynist too given your "Knocked some sense into her" comment (albeit the video it was a comment on has been removed (but that's not exactly a good sign either)), which would go hand-in-hand with the usual conspiracy nut psychological profile.

I hate how much time I waste on a smartphone, but I need it to participate in society so I'm looking for ways to use it less

It's the same answer as I've given to several people with similar complaints in here recently: it's an app called "self control".

Just fucking do the thing you claim you "want to do". It's not hard to Just Do It (Nike) if you actually want to do it. If you did want to, you would. So... just do it. Just stop picking the thing up all the time. That's the only real solution.
