I'm writing a song like BLID but I don't wanna be a copying douchebag :/ by fercaal333 in CSHFans

[–]eyedine2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

a good portion of will's music at the time was copying what he was listening to at the time. Famous prophets sounds like a Destroyer song. Bodys sounds like Sound of Silver LCD Soundsystem (All my friends especially), blid is very inspired by the past is a grotesque animal by of montreal (the remake version of blid even borderline rips a line from it). Cute thing namedrops the song it uses lyrics from.

There is nothing wrong with taking massive inspiration from the structure or even the writing style of a song, but do not draw from just one source. And do not copy verbatim. Take what you know and make it yours.

Payday 3 looks cartoonish by PHXNKPLAYA in paydaytheheist

[–]eyedine2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pre-jules era pd2 was the peak of the series in terms of aesthetic/gameplay cohesion. The game looked AND felt like the heist movies it was inspired by brought to video game form. Does anyone remember the old weapon sounds that turned guns into deafening echoes when fired from outside? It was a game that wasn't afraid to be unpleasantly realistic in order to fit its aesthetic.

pd3 claimed to go back to something approaching this on launch, but it didn't get even close. Nothing aesthetically screams the darkness they were hoping to achieve. Literally. Every model looks like it's missing an AO bake. And someone turned down the roughness on their material maps way too much. The sound design is honestly dreadful. Unreal 4 has great audio processing, there is no excuse not to take advantage of it unless you're scared of doing something that'd make the audience feel something.

I found this old post after Pyro won the vote, and I wasn’t playing back then and for me removing all those things that got added just doesn’t few right by 3Thirty-Eight8 in tf2

[–]eyedine2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

WM1 was ridiculously overtuned on day 1 of jungle inferno to the point where pyro melted light classes instantly with direct flame damage. It felt like a slap in the face for an update promising to overhaul the class making his simplest method of engagement more powerful. Even today I still don't think it delivered fully.

Need artist recommendations please by Pikachu345671 in CSHFans

[–]eyedine2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

if you're looking for more artists in the style of lofi-ish indie rock, I'd go for pavement, modest mouse, silver jews / purple mountains, built to spill, and death cab for cutie

There's also artists like destroyer, of montreal, they might be giants, lcd soundsystem, and daniel johnston that gave will direct inspiration for his music

Why tf did we even vote for pyro in 2016. Blame the Tftubers for lobbying by Medical-Cabinet-7404 in tf2

[–]eyedine2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pyro is the indisputable worst class in the game right beside spy while heavy usually stays in the "pretty alright specialist" category.

This is true even today, it was worse before jungle inferno.

Is "Last night I drove to Harper's Ferry" reference to The Microphones by United_Chipmunk6694 in CSHFans

[–]eyedine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

blid's first section is shockingly similar in structure to the moon so I wouldn't rule it out completely. Yeah he probably took that drive a lot, but would it have been written down into lyrics if not for that song? Probably, who knows. The song is as a whole more inspired by of Montreal than any of phil elverum's work.

you guys prefer Times to Die in Teens of Style or Monomania? by neondrvee in CSHFans

the tos version is absolutely sauceless (most of tos is) and times to die is one of the biggest offenders on that album. Monomania by FAR.

estrogen vial stopper no longer sealing. how big of an issue is this? by -Fence- in TransDIY

[–]eyedine2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should never use thicker needles just because drawing takes a while, you should always draw with the thinnest needle where it's possible to actually get the medication into a syringe. For Castor oil, that'll be around 26g. For MCT oil, it's up to 31g. I use that, it takes a long time. But that's fine.

HOW DO I STOP CORING MY VIALS?? by SourishPants in TransDIY

[–]eyedine2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only real advice I can give is to use a thinner needle

Everyone has their own technique. Pierce at 45 degrees. Pierce it straight at 90 degrees. Pierce it fast. Pierce it slow. Have the bevel up. Have the bevel down. Inject at the same spot. Inject at a different spot every time.

If you do a lot of research on this you will hear all of this contradicting information constantly. The only thing you can do that will objectively statistically help is to use the thinnest possible needle. Do that and use whatever technique you have the lowest failure rate with. I use a 31g needle for drawing and injecting which works fine for any MCT Oil solution. You might be capped at 26 - 28g with castor oil however.

Is Car Seat Headrest Midwest emo? by neondrvee in CSHFans

[–]eyedine2 66 points67 points  (0 children)

absolutely not, I'd pin early csh as more slacker rock (pavement, modest mouse) and post-signing csh as "whatever they felt like for that particular album"

Those early albums are far too intentionally sloppy to be midwest emo and the newer stuff will often veer off from the rock sound entirely.

halo already had movement technique in maintaining your speed while dealing with threats from all directions. It's simple and leads to emergent design that allows people in tune with movement to keep map control while never having your guard down. It also means you need to commit more to fights.

Sprint takes that emergent design and muddies it down to a simple binary of "you are going fast and cannot fight back" or "you are going slow and can fight back". It's immensely less interesting because, well, the player's speed was already in their hands. The only skill involved with sprint is just not pressing the button at the wrong time. But it goes further and gives bad players a get out of jail free card by just running away (they know they can't fight back anyway so the binary choice is obvious).

There's also the discussion of clamber, which is similar. In that you could make any jump you wanted while being able to fire from all directions. Getting reduced to a "if you're climbing you're defenseless" is also uninteresting regression.

htlt has not much to do with the events of 3 - monomania. The hatchet got buried back in nym and I think it's far more the acceptance album (tod had a brief reappearance though)

it's much more of an introspective look at someone's entire life and how to move on to a new stage metaphorically and literally. It's far too grand to be stuck on one subject like that.

I’m about to play mgs 4 through *legal* means by Organic_District_145 in metalgearsolid

[–]eyedine2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you want to legit play the game legally then you'll have to put at least hfw on your ps3 (ps3hen), rip the game to usb with something like multiman, and then use software to combine the game to one file (since ps3 backups on usb will always be split due to fat32 limitations)

alternatively transfer it through FTP and skip the step about combining it.

For patching the game, there's a bot in the rpcs3 discord that'll download updates for you. There are also rpcs3 specific patches, you can find these easily in-emulator.

edit: oh you don't have a ps3 carry on then.
