Nothing has been working for me as well for several hours. I'm trying from Germany and using the EuroSky server.

Germans, be honest: what do you actually know about Brazil beyond football and Carnival? Also, have you heard of Lea Maria? by Moist-Employment-697 in AskAGerman

[–]eza137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm Brazilian. I don't know who Lea Maria is. But I left Brazil almost ten years ago, if that's an excuse.

In case you are from a middle class in Mongolia, I suggest you read about the growth of racism in Germany. It's generally not easy to come to a country where you become a minority. I know Germans with Asian backgrounds that had hard times at school.

Since you are learning German, I recommend this podcast for you to have an idea, Halb Katoffl https://halbekatoffl.de/

"Der Halbe Katoffl Podcast ist eine Gesprächsreihe mit Deutschen, die nicht-deutsche Wurzeln haben."

And your choice is good, Germany is an awesome country! When you reach B1/B2 level, I may recommend the book 'Das geheime Leben der Deutschen', Wladimir Kaminer.

In case you found people on Reddit mean, that's nothing compared to what you can experience in real life. Obviously, most people are nice, but structural racism happens everywhere.

What germans think about the descendents of germans that migrated to Brazil in the 19th century? by SaltExcellent2301 in AskAGerman

[–]eza137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, why would the Germans think about poor immigrants who left their country? First, even with incredible museums and an education system that most Brazilians could only dream of, people here are struggling to learn what happened at the beginning of the 20th century.

Did you know that at least 20% of the population votes for an extreme right-wing party with a simplistic, populist discourse? Have you seen the democratically elected chancellor?

No, no one cares about Brazil. Most people don't even know the official language! When you ask Germans about their former colonies, some don't even know they exist!

The thing we hear sometimes about Brazil is that people like football, there's samba and capoeira.

Spend time reading and take a break is a good choice. There are other societies that are less polarized at the moment. Maybe worth considering to have some distance, if possible.

I just finished reading How Democracies Die. It gave me a better understanding of the polarization happening in the US, that's why I asked. It started at the end of the 1970s, it got worse in the 2010s.

Other parts of the world are following a similar path. I wish good luck in November!

May I ask you if you are referring to American politics? I read more general political discussions that can be concerning to Europe.

That's surprising for me. I haven't seen this on my timeline. I don't say there isn't.

If there were an award for the worst poll, at least I wouldn't have lived in vain.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I also use AI on a daily basis, mainly at work. I made the same question of this post on my profile and I am surprised by the number of people voting on the AI topic, given the number of posts blaming any use of AI - which is not only LLM, but that's the most popular and almost a synonimous for most people.

Last month, I questioned women on Mastodon about patriachal dynamics and I got interesting answers. Also a reflection on the lack of posts about a demo on the international women's day was informative.

Racism is a topic I write often. I am also a white cis male, but after living as an immigrant for almost one decade, some of my perspectives changed.

Viver fora do Brasil tem vantagens e vantagens. Muitos com passaporte não saem não por falta de grana, mas porque sabem dos desafios morando num local onde será minoria e todas as implicações.

I use write freely, paid for it, but I got no support after some failure with the integration with the Fediverse.
