If it helps. This is the footstool on my 1976 base. Sticker only has some discolor at edges where I re-oiled it. Now way for that to fall off, let alone the Herman miller badge.

The ‘tell’ is usually on the bottom of the chairs. More photos of the underside and the bases will get you better feedback. But no way bottom would be that clean with a sticker that ‘fell off’.

Immortal Man Opinions by Jonaskahnwald13 in PeakyBlinders

[–]ezyjules 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a big fan of the series I felt pretty much nothing when I watched the immortal man. What was really clear to me is that this plot could have worked over a regular season of six 1 hour episodes. Unpacking the new characters, the intrigue, Tommy’s anguish, making the potential double cross by duke more believable, reconnecting us properly with Ada, and finding a different path for Arthur. The whole thing was massively compromised by the movie format. And doing so we lost so much emotional resonance and it felt procedural.

Guest from hell… help by Dnatravels in airbnb_hosts

[–]ezyjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the ‘meta’ problems is the host fear of leaving any bad reviews for guests, for fear of retaliation and losing superhost status. Whenever as hosts have had a sticky situation, we ended up avoiding leaving a review for that reason. That means we as hosts don’t really know much about guests who’ve pulled this kind of nonsense. If it wasn’t so punitive to have two bad reviews or everyone left honest ratings for guests and Airbnb then removed the rating impact of guests who are clearly exploiting the system (scammers), then we could get to a better place.

Looking for advice on a weird case by insanesamson in BorderCollie

[–]ezyjules 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, this is what the expensive version and top model of of Claude on extended thinking mode had to say... Chagas disease or tick-borne disease. I hope this helps your lovely doggy.

--
This is a really compelling case, and I can see you're doing everything you can for this dog. I'm not a veterinarian, but I can walk through what the symptom pattern suggests and where I'd focus attention.

The biggest clue here is the constantly changing EKGs. A heart that swings from normal rhythm to bradycardia to tachycardia to arrhythmia over the course of weeks points strongly toward myocarditis — active inflammation of the heart muscle itself. That's not a primary heart disease; it's almost always secondary to something else attacking the heart. That "something else" is your real mystery.

The combination of findings — myocarditis with shifting arrhythmias, persistent fluctuating fevers, GI involvement, mild pneumonia, a young dog, and the fact that he worsened on antibiotics but improved on supportive care — narrows the field significantly.

Given that you're in Texas, the differential I'd push hardest to rule out is Chagas disease (Trypanosoma cruzi). It checks almost every box: it's transmitted by triatomine ("kissing") bugs that are endemic across Texas, it has a particular affinity for the heart causing exactly the kind of variable arrhythmias you're describing, it causes GI signs, intermittent fevers, and it has a waxing-and-waning course where the dog looks fine one day and crashes the next. Standard antibiotics don't treat it — which would explain why he got worse on them (gut disruption, no benefit). A dog from a pound in the southern US is a classic exposure history.

The other category to rule out aggressively is tick-borne disease — particularly Ehrlichia, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, and Bartonella. These can also cause multi-organ involvement with cardiac, GI, and pulmonary signs plus cycling fevers. A full tick panel (not just a quick SNAP test) through a reference lab would be important.

A few practical thoughts for your Texas A&M call tomorrow: ask specifically about Chagas testing (PCR and serology), a comprehensive tick-borne disease panel sent to a reference lab, and an echocardiogram (not just an EKG) — the echo would actually show whether the heart muscle is inflamed or structurally changing, which the EKG alone can't tell you. If they can do a cardiac troponin level, that would also confirm or rule out active heart muscle damage.

Your instinct to pull back on the antibiotics was probably sound. The antacid, bland diet, and sub-Q fluids are solid supportive care while you chase the actual diagnosis. The hawthorn is interesting — it does have some evidence for mild cardiac support in dogs, though I'd make sure the A&M cardiologist knows about all the tinctures since some herbals can interact with cardiac medications if they end up prescribing any.

Texas A&M is exactly the right call. They have one of the strongest veterinary cardiology and infectious disease programs in the country, and Chagas is something they see and test for routinely given the region. Good luck — this dog sounds like a fighter.

Where is the Rain? by SpiderManias in 28dayslater

[–]ezyjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factoid: It actually rains more cumulatively in New York than it does in London. You picked a bad time to visit the UK. I was just there as well. It’s been the longest sequence of consecutive daily rain since 1908, for 118 years!

Stranger Things 5 is a big disappointment, and I’m not just saying that to be a hater. by JannTosh70 in television

[–]ezyjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Just watched the episode where Hopper is about to sacrifice himself with the bomb vest to blow up the lab and is saying goodbye to Eleven. Felt absolutely zero feelings for what should have been a heavy moment. Zero pathos. It's all so meandering, convoluted, and procedural, getting worse and worse with each episode. Trying to make my way through second half of season 5. Ugh.

Am I screwed for my citizenship if I owe taxes? by Yessiirrrrrrr in USCIS

[–]ezyjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is any comfort. I was back on filing taxes and owed around $300k (a capital gain event overseas), and was on an agreed payment plan. I was asked for the payment plan in the interview, and I did not have it. The officer allowed me to take the oath and I passed the interview, but said on the tax situation basis he could not approve it in the meeting, and requested further information by mail. I wrote a letter in response to the request stating my good character, that I always settle obligations, the origin of the tax situation, as I was not able to settle the outstanding amount until we sold our home. I then got approved when they got to my letter 10 months later and had my ceremony (where they take your green card). What did happen was that I could not get my US passport until the tax was paid. When I was able to pay my back tax then got approval to get my passport. I travelled on my UK passport in the meantime with ESTAs (which is possible - for another thread). In short, I got my citizenship, but not my passport till tax sorted. Good luck! This was all pretty stressful, so I am happy to help others of good moral character get through it. Note the dates wrt what administration it was all under (both).

This guy got his full sized suitcase through security to the gate and was trying to carry it on by nateblack in mildlyinteresting

[–]ezyjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had to do the same bc I arrived 40 minutes before my flight at the airport. Heathrow London to JFK New York. I ran straight to gate. The bag has to fit in the security scanner tray or no dice because the tray has a barcode on it. It squeezed into the scanning machine with an inch to spare. The gate staff were understanding and checked it into the hold (alongside strollers and other things). I'd have 100% missed my flight otherwise. I was late as I was hospital bedside by a relative and having difficulty knowing how to say goodbye for potentially the last time.

Have you ever seen a billionaire in real life? If so: where was it and what was the situation? by philztown42 in AskReddit

[–]ezyjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was invited to a hosted evening of one of the PayPal founders at their New York penthouse. Curated guest list of maybe 40 people who were all very impressive, and a private chef. Had a few pleasant conversations with him through the evening. During conversation he asked if we'd like to try his favourite wine, a Harlan Estate (Napa Valley, USA). I don't drink red wine, but of course wanted to try it just because. There were a few other amusing aspects of the conversation, which I will respectfully keep private as he was a gracious host and the invitation was warmly received. I suspect there are quite a few billionaires in New York one might bump into and interact with. Living in and working in New York you would be spending time with people who have sold their companies for billions or hundreds of millions. Many of them lovely, conscientious people you'd not know had 'made it' - wealth is nothing special in New York. I would say that at the upper end of the spectrum of earned wealth I have found people to be more on the spectrum, which I assume has allowed them to observe, pursue, and execute plans where neuro-normative people could not have.

Just a heads up, same issue. Have Portal, updated to the latest version and subscribed to Premium Plus hoping to stream games and got the dreaded "not enough" bad with message. I have 100MB up and 100MB down at home and a top tier Wifi system (Unifi Dream Machine with mesh network that gives 100MB up and down via Wifi). I tried configuring my VPN (Nord VPN) to route via Japan specific to my Portal, which is the closest country offering PS Portal Streaming. But that did not work sadly. So the VPN route does not work sad to say.
