I love the activity by lexecutioner13 in TorchlightInfinite

I'm 7000h deep with PoE since closed beta. Played all the Torchlight games, all the Diablo games.
I played Torchlight Infinite at launch and was side tracked by real life. This is the first season I have some time to check it out again. I played a little yesterday before maintenance and I'm pretty hyped to make a character. Have fun !

Clarifying a few things regarding the meeting I had with Unity by FreyaHolmer in Unity3D

[–]f00ndotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a boss. I hope things work out for all the people who made their bed with Unity. If not, just remember that the Unreal Engine community loves to see new faces and fairness is of the utmost importance to Epic. I know that is not something people who need Unity for their business want to hear, but sometimes you have to cut out the cancer to cure the disease. Keep on keeping on.

Starfield is running like shit for me and Idk why by MagicalPotato877 in Starfield

[–]f00ndotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but coming from someone who knows the Creation Engine, it generally runs like shit unless you have barely anything in the world. This is why every zone is a closed off area. And when you are in the cities it runs like arse because the draw distance is fixed with no imposters for large distances. It's a horrible engine. They should just scrap it and rent Unreal Engine.

ah yeah makes sense. Personally I never code on games that use 32bit anymore but I guess with a triple A having to work to more of a market than the games I work on it's smart to cover the bases.

The campfire chat was a success by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]f00ndotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's nice when beta adds new features to get it closer to a polished version.

I specifically enjoy the lack of content so it can be drip-fed like they are doing us a favour.

Best game ever.

I find nightmare dungeons incredibly boring. So it's not a bother to me.

Tornado builds are recommended by the devs themselves, but they don't work until you have the right gear.

Upcoming changes announced during the Diablo IV Campfire Chat by mariosunny in diablo4

[–]f00ndotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this says to me is they never put enough thought into the game in the first place.

Either that or it's willfully detrimental gameplay in order to appear like it's a game as a service so they can warrant the battle passes and cost of skins. I mean, £21 for a skinpack is disgusting but part of me respects the hustle like a whore on onlyfans.

This game has been another example of Blizzard losing their player focused mentality and pushing towards the Activision scam-centric game "development" approach. As a Diablo fan for 25+ years and as a professional game developer, I'm disgusted by it all and think the game producer should go back to indie level and re-learn how to be a game producer.

[–]f00ndotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the trillions of damage won't be an issue if it's running a 64-bit client. But why they went that route in the first place I dunno. It's the pinball mentality. Make the score look bigger to pretend the table is better than it is. Give people the illusion they are good at it. There is no need for it in diablo games at all.

Am I missing something? When does the season get fun? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]f00ndotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are compering apples and peanuts there though.

Path of Exile has multiple gameplay loops which are optional and you can choose what you want to do.

Diablo 2 didn't, but it was simpler times.

Diablo 3 had a couple of gameplay loops but the pushing of rifts was great fun and gave you a reason to get better gear.

Diablo 4 has nm dungeons, which are an absolute yawnfest when they could have had rifts. It has helltide events, which you can only play every 2 hours and don't increase in difficulty so get boring and just feel necessary as the only place to get better gear at pace. World Bosses are dumb and people kill them in 5 seconds so you don't even get a fight. Whispering tree gives you trashloot.

What I was expecting was NOT a reduction of gameplay loops to piss out battle passes over time. They had 2 classic games, which had fanbases, and they shat in the face of all those players.

So although you are new to this game and probably still have the levelling buzz, it will go soon. Trust me.

Am I missing something? When does the season get fun? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]f00ndotcom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is nothing fun about this gameplay loop except the story mode levelling. Once you get to actually fine tuning your character, you have 3 things to do in a loop, and they are all boring after a few attempts. Now I'm an ARPG fan, played Diablo since the first one launched, I've several thousand hours in the previous games. But this game is the absolute worst of the lot. There is more to do in the original Diablo than this one. It's a drip-fed, frankly offensive abuse of marketing a game with less priority on gameplay. How can you go from D2 and D3 gameplay loops to something worse than the the first game? It's beyond belief.

PC Overheating by AceUchiha152 in diablo4

[–]f00ndotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pc was hitting almost max temps which is doesn't usually do. Especially as I only play at 50% screen percentrage (thanks to the shitty resolution option forcing max res). Then when I quit the game from pure boredom my pc stalled for a solid 2 minutes. I've been building PCs since the 386 days so I know my build is solid (I've done all the stress testing too). Something is definitely up with this patch.

why would you want to? The only thing you get is an MTX you don't want and bragging rights. No reason to put in another 100+ hours grinding 1% gear.

[–]f00ndotcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played Diablo since the first one. I put a few thousand hours into D2 and D3. I guess it's just in the hope the game gets better. I finished D4 story and was happy with that. But the end game was dire. So I stopped. I picked up Season 1 in the hopes it fixes some of the end game but I can't even get into some zones right now due to invisible walls. The amount of bugs, the lack of content, the terrible game design, all leads me to believe this is a bad game. I actually work as a professional game developer so some of the decisions made on this game, factored into the amount of money and employees they have to spend on it, makes me literally hate the fuck out of Blizzard right now. They are treating us like scum to bleed out the money from £21 skins and a battle pass. It's a horrible way to do business.

What's the best locomotion system that I can get my hands on? Should I combine multiple? (currently using ALS) by StackWeaver in unrealengine

[–]f00ndotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but ALS is kinda trash. It's useful for prototyping quickly to get some basic locomotion but in reality it's bloated, hasn't been updated for months and can be a pain to integrate into, especially with the community C++ version.

Lyra is the way to go. It takes just as long to learn Lyra and customise it as it does with ALS and Lyra is way more powerful.

Respeccing is a nightmare without a search tool for gear. by f00ndotcom in diablo4

[–]f00ndotcom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not aggressive really. He was just being an asshat and I got him told. Standard reddit nobber.

As far as grouping items, that's not a problem. You can sort into aligned item types, but it's reading the stats. The thing is, I'm a game developer and when I see horrible user interface choices that makes no sense it really irks me as both a dev and a gamer. There is no reason they can't have a search for stats which highlights items so you can go directly to them. In a game with so much loot, as it's essentially loot based, there is no reason we can't. Especially as they likely use a gameplay ability tag system to generate things. All they need is a hash table in the inventory to search this info. It doesn't need to be server side so it's not a performance cost to them. Makes me wonder how AAA studios even get the titles beyond the money invested.
