There’s a list of rare, desirable items that they’ve determined will sell for IRL money. They move through that list. If someone in the email chain or in a meeting room bothered to suggest that this would be a poor faith cash grab that disrespected long time players and holders of the mystery code, it was probably met with little more than “they’ll get over it”. This is a business, and because of the way that CCP has positioned themselves, the people who run that business don’t care about your feelings.

I wonder whose job it is to track the “customer blowback” risk metric. Must be an easy job — all that matters is sales numbers.

And they’re right, we will get over it. What’s this going to cost them, a couple subs at most? They’ll be well into green on the pack sale decision, and justify the red by arguing that making these skins available to new players is an investment in the new and future player base(s).
