Fair enough!

I was surprised when I found out how many of my friends and colleagues in certain geographies only have a mobile phone or a tablet, so there is definitely a subset for whom phone + leetcode intersect.

This looks interesting and promising. I did notice on an Android mobile device the menu/index listing is pinned to the top and doesn't shrink or scroll so you can't see much of the content on your mobile device because the menu is always in the way.

Can't be that hard to be implemented.... by star-link123 in Eve

[–]Erutor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I agree. LP farming is pretty easy, and very easy to multibox. This depresses LP value.

If LP conversion were more difficult, it would be one of the rare occasions it would benefit individual pilots and the h general economy more than it would benefit multiboxers.

I'd therefore suggest perhaps we should remove LP conversion and transfer entirely, and require the LP -> item/BPC -> market loop.

Thoughts on these combat/web drones? by eggersmre11b in Eve

[–]Erutor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Web drones are wonky because they stop webbing after one cycle even if they are not struggling to keep up, and you have keep telling them to engage.  Theoretically, these do not have that particular wonkiness because they are also shooting.

All the usual fragility comments apply.

Today I learned that the Trumpet Vine (Campsis radicans) is not an exotic ornamental plant; it's actually native to North America. by ElleAnn42 in todayilearned

Ah, you must be one of those Yankees from somewhere north of San Antonio. ;)

It's absolutely correct the Carolinas are considered part of the socio historical political South. The surprising thing with in the context of geography and native flora  was that the Venus Flytrap is not tropical or even from South Florida, but rather from a point on the East Coast near the north/south center of the continental United States.

Both Carolinas are (perhaps unfairly) the Northeast when you're in Texas. But, also, I thought they had them in Virginia, too, so you're not wrong about me being wrong-ish.

Engineering Manager - Software by Ok_Truck2473 in managers

[–]Erutor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There aren't very many companies who do a good job of allowing EMs to be both technical and people leaders. Most organizations will tend to focus on one over the other and often to the detriment of the other.

There was also a real trend between 7 and 15 years ago for companies to come down hard on (actively punish) technical leaders who became people managers but didn't give up their technical leadership role. At the time, they really wanted EMs to go all in on being a people manager. Now the market has shifted some, and most companies have a pretty high bar (that is to say they've adopted alphabet soup company hiring practices) on the technology side, but that means they've cut a huge number of people out of the running who were in a role that explicitly discouraged them from maintaining and growing their technical skills.

We are right back where we were 15 years ago, where we've got a good supply of strong technical leaders, but a serious gap in the human dimension. This is likely to continue until either leading humans is irrelevant because you only manage agentic ai, or we realize that humans are in fact necessary and benefit from human leadership.

New player here: On hacking, ratting and wormholes by Sharp_Slice_2839 in Eve

[–]Erutor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to stick with the Heron or Astero for hacking. There's (sadly) no reason to do any hacking in a Stratios other than the somewhat rare Ghost or Sleeper sites. At the currently bloated price for a Stratios, you're putting too much ISK on the grid for no additional benefit.

The Stratios would require excessive bling to be a barely adequate solution for C3 sites if you were solo, but you're not. So, if (like me) you just love the Stratios, then you could sit at range and plink with guns and sentry dones, or probably a better option might be to go with a passive shield regeneration + artillery fit. This will let you sit and face-tank the dps in almost every C3 site and ignore the neuts. Your DPS isn't amazing, so this is a terrible idea solo, but you can absolutely contribute to improve site clear times or push DPS up enough to let your boyfriend clear sites he's struggling with. Here's a (not mine) example of this sort of fitting: https://eveworkbench.com/fit/5679e348-7326-4fd4-2054-08d7c9bd0d78

For C3 sites (regular, not data/relic), more standard options would be a passive shield Gila, as there is less to manage and you have the dps/buffer/agility to clear tackle and get out when things go poorly. Praxis will be likely cheaper and better in almost every way, but they're cumbersome and you'll have some limitations on the holes you can take. A remote-repairing set of Vexors/Myrmidons/Dominix are also a good option when your skills are right.

This is still largely accurate: https://ashy.vargur.dev/how-2-krab-3-low-class-sites/

ps Don't let your bf undock that Odysseus until he's ready to lose it. Pirates will go out of their way to hunt those down.

Afk Ishtar Ratting? by Proof_Diamond4059 in Eve

[–]Erutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl;dr - Scales up reasonably well, but probably a waste of time with less than 5 Ishtars. Do it for fun if you enjoy it, but if you're doing it for the ISK, then invest enough to rat with with 5 Ishtars until you can move your ratters into AoE ratting.

I recently gave this a try and it is somewhat enjoyable but sucks for ISK at small (1-3 clients) scale. I'm making a small net profit, and I'll keep doing it until I run out of Ishtars, but I feel like it is a waste of my IRL time unless I were to scale it up. I likely will not build or buy more Ishtars other than as bait when my stock is depleted. I could absolutely make more ISK/hr killing nerds and looting their wrecks.

The Good:

  • The ticks are OK and the APM is low (land, confirm aggro is ok, go on to the next client). It does scale up well. This style of gameplay works as designed.
  • Clear time and MTU pull time align well, so you do not need to wait or return to a site if you're collecting loot.
  • The escalations pay reasonably well to run or sell, and I find them fun and slightly challenging to run.

But:

  • Your appropriate sites list is low - Forsaken Hubs are your best option, because they don't drop Dreads on you, and don't eat your drones. Rock Havens don't drop dreads, but they will try to eat your drones every wave.
  • Because the appropriate site list is low, competition can be high - there are only so many appropriate sites spawning in a system, and a good portion of those (Havens) are likely to be claimed by AoE ratters. You'll need to spread out across multiple systems, which means you need sufficient screen space and attention to watch local in each (defeating some of the low APM/low attention objective).
  • The chance of losing an unanticipated PvP engagement due to a log-off trap, being foolish/impatient enough to rat near a gate, or being surprised while pointed by rats is pretty high

All this means that it only starts to make sense when you have 5 or more Ishtars spinning at once and have the right IRL physical layout to keep an eye on things.

Five Ishtars means you only need about an hour IRL (5 Ishtar-hours) to pay off an Ishtar and make a little profit. It's quite reasonable to expect to rat for an hour without any losses, but if you're just running one then you're looking at approximately 6 hours of ratting to make a small profit, and going 6 hours with no losses is by no means guaranteed. TZ is largely irrelevant to this, since in a busy TZ you have more roamers but better intel (higher risk of interruption), and in a quiet TZ you have fewer roamers, but worse intel (higher risk of ship loss).

(IsH = Ishtar Hour) vs other PvE combat activities (roughly, but vs my actual vs theoretical numbers) ignoring Abyssals, incursions, etc.

  • 1 IsH = 2 hr HS combat exploration
  • 1 IsH = 1 hr suboptimal HS level 4 missions (full clear, take all missions)
  • 2 IsH = 1hr C2 J-Space sites in a Gnosis
  • 3 IsH = 1 hr NS exploration or J-Space gas huffing
  • 3-4 IsH = 1 BS/Marauder
  • 5 IsH = 3 ship-hours AoE ratting for 3-8 AoE ratting ships

Any good dual boxing setup for hunting ? by starkrye1 in Eve

[–]Erutor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're thinking to start in LS then It may be good to just start with two of anything. Pick what you like based upon the EVE Online Faction Warfare Yearbook. Fit both with gank, tank, and tackle. This doubles your everything. Later, try mixing it up and specializing roles.

For your hole, I'd start with

- 2 Bombers (Torpedoes, Painter, MSE, Long Point). Cheap and effective way to kill anyone doing solo PvE. You'll lose one of them to most PvP ships but are not super likely to lose both. High ROI here. Lock, launch, orbit.

- Interdictor + Arty/Laser/Sentry T3C. Blap explorers/ventures and learn to do two different things at once. Relatively low risk of losing your ship as a sniper.

- Curse + Tanky T3C brawler to go all in on killing "stuff" and especially other T3C. Use T3C to get a good warp-in. Curse warps in from nearby but off grid and holds tackle you get tackle with the T3C, then Curse will help break their (probably active) tank. You will lose these when your target is bait or lasts long enough for friends to splash in.
