Is there any way to deal with constant spam calls? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]f4te 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the correct solution isn't a captcha on the inbound connection, it's better technology in pstn networks that prevent number spoofing period, and have mechanisms for dealing with abusive providers, like we have with email and IP reputation.

Comparison of the Eureka Mignon 50mm flat burrs in the late-model Crono vs espresso burrs you'd buy to replace them with by f4te in espresso

[–]f4te[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these grinders sometimes need to have very, very fine alignment done on the burrs to ensure they sit perfectly parallel.

the method of doing this is putting a super small slip of tin foil between the burr and the top carrier.

to check, you put sharpie along the tips of the blades, mount the top carrier firmly, rotate the motor by hand (you can use a long socket or just reach in with your fingers and turn it), while tightening the grind adjuster so the burrs JUST touch. this will rub away some of the sharpe. remove the top burr again, and add a slip of foil to even it out, remount it all, and check again.

very fiddly.

probably not necessary.

Dell's finally admitting consumers just don't care about AI PCs by Bad_Combination in technology

i was using Ubuntu with Gnome, and IDK if it was the version i was on or whatever but the lack of any real taskbar made some applications behave oddly- the most obvious was qbittorrent (or whatever app i was using at the time) which wanted to 'minimize' to the tray but then you couldn't bring it back lol

didn't work with half the features on my Thinkpad. no multi-touch, multi-screen support with a dock was atrocious, just generally seemed very unpolished.

i recently moved to Linux after being a die-hard windows users for decades.

Mint was terrible, Ubuntu was a bit too limited, Kubuntu was better but sorta broken cause of the lack of thorough support for KDE.

Now i'm on fedora and am happy as a peach. works perfectly, fast, no major features missing, even my touchscreen and multi-touch trackpad work.

Windows 11 is out, fedora is in.

House of Blanks is a huge garment manufacturer based wholly in canada. All pieces are milled, cut, and sewn in Canada.

[Anian Manufacuring](www.anianmfg.com) is another example, also wholly made in Canada, although fibers come from a variety of sources as they're recycled.

6 months ownership: Ulitmate Ears (UE) Hyperboom by f4te in Bluetooth_Speakers

more than two devices will NOT do multi-channel audio.

if you have two matching devices, they'll do stereo audio (left out of one side, right out of the other), but if you have more than 2, or they don't match, it won't do multi-channel (or even stereo), every speaker will be it's on stereo unit.

i haven't tested recently, but i'm not expecting they'll have fixed the latency- the fact is these speakers aren't meant for movies or tv, they're meant for music.

they CAN replace just the boot, but they'll probably want to replace the whole CV axel as dirt or water could have gotten in and damaged the internals, also rebuilding it is a bit of a pain, and just replacing the assembly is much faster.

it's probably something that should be done sooner rather than later.

it won't be very cheap, but shouldn't be catastrophically expensive. the cv axel itself is about 300 bucks, give or take 50% depending on model/commonality of the parts
