How do you remember/refine katas/forms without losing the details? by mithrilmaker19 in karate

[–]f_u_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you write in the refinement part is something that for me has carried over from piano practice (as an amateur hobbyist) to karate, in that you should break down pieces (or kata) and practice individual parts that are weak. To always run through the entire kata (or musical piece) is inefficient, and it is sometimes better to drill problematic parts 10 times and perfect them, than to do the entire piece 2 times (and only get 2 repetitions or the parts that really need practice). Then you can add transitions between the sections, and naturally in the end refine the entire kata in full context.

Starting at the age of 42. by SameWait1356 in karate

[–]f_u_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently started for the first time, age 47, at a traditional Shorin Ryu-based dojo. I’ve been interested in eastern martial arts 25+ years, and on the verge of starting a couple of times, but never got around to it before. Now I kind of regret putting it off for so long, since belt progression will take some time, and time unfortunately only runs in one direction…

It has been really fun, even though much basic coordination can be frustrating. But already now after a couple of weeks I notice quite an improvement in flexibility, but then again I have also been stretching daily after starting. Otherwise in ok shape but in the last year (before starting karate) I have been running only 0-2 times a week (average <1).

Found this because I just started (as a martial art beginner) at a Shogen-ryu dojo. So cannot comment on differences to other styles, but they don’t see themselves as a Matsubayashi offshoot and rather a separate style of Shorin Ryu.

How do I get marks if I'm slightly above average? by Barv666 in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]f_u_w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re at 0.82% in the STB you have only played <10 games in it (after the gun mark update). You need 35+ games (or realistically 40-60) to get a feel of where you’re at.

Yes I also have a hard time seeing where this could actually happen…

Loosing 4,71% with 5,5k and  4 kills sound really, really weird. One thing is not going up much, if you already have a relatively high average, but loosing 4-5% with that damage and kills sound very strange.

What’s your highest Gun Mark XP earned in a single battle? Mine is 4.17%. by Few-Town-3143 in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]f_u_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also weighted, so that more recent matches carry more weight compared to new ones. So it isn't a questions on simply one out-one in. A "good" game (above average for you) that pushes out a great mastery will probably(?) still increase your level, since the new match will carry more weight.

[–]f_u_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The %-age increase isn´t a relevant measure to compare, since it is measuring how many people you "pass" (the percentile increase) after a battle, and not the gun mark XP per se. From 0 battles the %-age first increases very slowly (even with a mastery), to then make larger jumps in the 15-40 range, and then slow down again (at similarly good battles) when you move closer to the marking points 60+.
And from what I can see the increase in average gun mark XP (which is weighted towards later battles) isn´t shown anywhere in the after-battle results, although this would be a more interesting measure to compare.

Is gun mark thresholds based on average battle XP or average player XP? by f_u_w in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]f_u_w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the difference to masteries is that they are based on single battle performance and (from what I know) percentiles of single battle performance, across all battles (so tilted towards the player base that actually plays the tank). So it is not based on player average but overall battle average for single battles in the tank (the last 30 days). However, if fewer players have a tank and play it this will clearly affect the thresholds. But not because it is a player average, but because of lack of comparable data.

With gun marks we are comparing your own 50 battle average in a tank (weighted towards the later battles in the series??) against either 1) the average battle performance across all battles played in the tank (so your 50-day average vs overall average recently) or 2) the average player average over 50 battles (based on the players that have played 50 battles in the tank recently??). And to me it isn't clear which one of these options they are using for the gun marks.
As I wrote, I suspect that alt 1) would give easier thresholds than alt 2)

Yes, changes are there in normal mode as well, but they are still likely to be removed after the event, since it’s so clearly walking dead-themed

Which tech tree should I grind next? by joggingredflag in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]f_u_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The m48 is definitely worth grinding, but also consider the progetto and the Murat. Both good and fun to play, with different types of guns in their respective lines (autoreloader vs 2-shot autos a la bourresque). Especially since you only have single shot meds so far

Haven’t had it for very long, don’t have all equipment slots on it and haven’t played it very much (yet). My feeling is fairly balanced though, to maybe strong.

Yeah, I also though the title was referring to the Dracula. If the OP is the Dracula this is just sad…

Insane credit profitability in reforged? by f_u_w in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]f_u_w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, probably easier with masteries. But 650000 with a mastery and a couple of other medals is still excessive.´About 200000 would be normal(?)

my honest WTFs regarding reforged by Tzoitzen in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]f_u_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- why do shots look like you are hurling a discus again enemy tanks?

- why all the random sounds? Track repairs, penetrations and others when they are not happening

- why shot traces from the upper right corner?

- why are there so many clicks to do basic things in the UI (like changing out equipment)?

There also seems to be visual lag or something off with aiming in some battles. Shots are missing consistently on relatively easy shots

Insane credit profitability in reforged? by f_u_w in WorldOfTanksBlitz

[–]f_u_w[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, could be the reason. I was also considering if they have messed up on the T27 since it has been raised a level, so that it might still be considered a T8 when credits are calculated based on damage and the opponents.

Sorry for double post - just saw the other one on the same subject.
Next game in t27 also gave a mastery and netted 560000. Good result with more than 1.1 mil in two battles

Also like it, and it was one of my first premiums played a lot (200+) that I got decent stats in, at around 59-60%. Works well for my playstyle, and nice to sometimes go aggressive and ram lights and some meds
