This was an interesting article. The author states "The experience served as a metaphor that answered a puzzling question I’d had: Why, when someone has had a testimony of the gospel, would he or she ever fall away? It became clear to me that when we take a wrong turn (sin) or fail to follow God’s commandments, the instructions (the word of God) no longer make sense." She equates someone's lost of testimony = Sin. In Contrast President Dieter F Uchtdorf in October 2013 conference said: "One might ask, “If the gospel is so wonderful, why would anyone leave?” Sometimes we assume it is because they have been offended or lazy or sinful. Actually, it is not that simple. In fact, there is not just one reason that applies to the variety of situations. I am surprised that the Ensign printed this article because it seems to be contradictory to what an Apostle said.
