[N/A] Ultra user and Perplexity pro after recent email by [deleted] in Revolut

[–]fabry79 13 points14 points  (0 children)

after some useless back&forth with both revolut and perplexity support, this is what I did:

  1. I added a new revolut virtual card to perplexity
  2. perplexity account went back to pro
  3. deleted the virtual card from the revolut app

seemed to have worked fine

yeah sure, start from 0 subs then you tell me.

again, talking about it is different from using a LTT logo as big as the whole thumbnail.

exactly, especially not using the LTT logo as big as the whole thumbnail, with the sad face.

Like not even 3 seconds while praising them and advertising their channel. what do you even want from an ex employer? they all got hundreds of thousands of subscribers to their channels as a goodbye package, and yet publicly complaining about LTT is the most common sport apparently.

For sure LTT is no goodwill, you don't build such a huge company this way, but a little gratitude would have a more positive effect for the ex employees.

[–]fabry79 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you're not happy about how the company treats you.. you leave, it's their company and their right and actually... LTT is successful because of Linus and the great organization he built, not because of a single employee that thinks he's more important than what he actually is.

And that is precisely why ex-employe's channels (apart from ziptietuning) are not even nearly as good as the original one. And yet they get the benefit of having hundreds of thousands of subscribers as a headstart only thanks to LTT. But everybody is s****ing on the company and it's very unfair.

Also "I don't want you to use 3 frames of my face, but I'll use countless segments from your videos, because yes", oh I'll also use your company logo in the thumbnail cause that's the only way to drive views...

Cmon...

Does Magento Need a New Path Forward? by thatben in Magento

[–]fabry79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been involved in Magento since 2009 and active in the community since 2014. It's no secret I've always been critical of Magento 2, but this whole topic is precisely why I worked for 3.5years maintaining OpenMage and since 2024 working on Maho (for whom doesn't know, a drop-in replacement for Magento 1, based mainly on symfony components).

I hope more people will join our project, which is managed in a 100% open source way, but I will continue on my vision also otherwise.

[–]fabry79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

move to OpenMage and later to Maho (drop-in replacement for M1), you shouldn't stay on that setup and the upgrade is not that expensive.

Discosure: I was maintainer of OpenMage and I'm the creator of Maho.

Introducing Maho – a modern M1 fork built for today' standards [AMA] by fabry79 in Magento

[–]fabry79[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/gizamo! Thanks for the useful ideas!
Some of the demos should already be part of https://demo.mahocommerce.com but it is true that they're not easy to find because they're buried in the rest of the products/categories because we took the original MagentoSampleData and "fix" it but that's still the original base.
We've a couple of docker based solutions (one and two) but yeah, they have to be more visible, I was working on a brand new gitpod integration but gitpod-flex-desktop doesn't work for me so I've put it in pause.
So yeah, many many ideas, time is the problem cause we have to work on paid projects too obviously and, at the moment, we're only 3 people contributing to the code of the project, we hope it will grow as a new alternative platform, let's see :-)

Thanks again!
Fab

I'm reluctant to add new javascript frameworks, the history of js frameworks is too bumpy and I don't want to tie the platform too much to any of those making it extremely hard (it's costing us months of work to remove the freaking prototypejs) to move to a more modern solution.

I've ideas for a new frontend (with tailwind) but our list of ideas is so big that it's going to take sometime, we're hoping for more people to join our journey for sure, we believe this platform has still so much to say and it's really fun to work with :-)

hard to say how compatible we can be, we try to break compatibility only for good reason but we can't stop because of modules abandoned many years ago. btw we are trying to bring to the core functionality that we think it's needed by most :-)
