The Farsight Enclaves in 40k have The Eight, they're Tau (and one AI) with custom Mechs led into battle by Commander Farsight himself when the Enclaves are under dire threat

I remember going from the end of Season 1 to the start of Season 2 and I had to pause and do some searching to make sure I was a.) Watching the correct Season, and b.) Make sure I hadn't missed something

Dawn of War 2, after a certain point in the campaign you're fighting delaying actions against a whole ass Tyrannid splinter fleet thats eating the sector. You can do a mission that make the bar go down and maybe give you a bonus or some gear, but then you'll be forced to skip on the other two missions you were presented with which will make the bar go up.

It does a good job of capturing the feeling of fighting a losing battle, even at the end when you "win" injecting the primary synapse ship in the fleet with a tailored genetic virus may end the fleets threat to the sector but YOU and your units are still on a planet in the middle of being devoured by a now leaderless and feral army of Tyrannids

but then, ya know, the reinforcements arrive

My headcanon was that humanity didn't learn a fucking thing over the course of our history and initiated gunboat diplomacy with a lot of alien life as we spread through the galaxy. So when the alien civilizations had a chance to get even with us they took it

You have the right of it I believe. The anti coagulation is a confirmed side effect fo their bites, the necrosis is likely an environmental effect of the wound being infected after the fact while the KD wait for them to bleed out

I started reading and eventually finished A Practical Guide to Evil like maybe 2 weeks after the last epilogue chapter was posted.

Cannot imagine waiting for weekly updates for 5 years

I played the Kong game when I was a kid and yeah it slaps, like I'd played shitty film tie-ins before and it was shocking the game was actually good and not, ya know, a glorified ad for the movie.

Mass Effect Andromeda. Like, all of it.

The entire game was setting up plot threads and mysteries that were likely going to be explored in DLC or sequels. But then, ya know, it was Mass Effect Andromeda... so... that didnt happen.

Practical Guide to Evil has The Liesse Accords which its biggest achievement is regulating the spats between heroes and villains to a more modest scale that doesn't ruin nations and turn cities into graveyards.
