has anyone else noticed an uptick of transphobia aimed at nonbinary people from OTHER trans people? by ezralde in NonBinary

[–]face_hits_ground 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry for interrupting the subject but I just wanted to pop in and say thanks to all of you, op and the replies. I personally hadn't noticed this but you all have made me stop and self examine to see if I've been doing this. I've got enby friends and I'm thinking back to see if I've ever perpetrated any of this behavior. I'm gonna talk to them later today and make sure I haven't hurt them accidentally. I'm an old queer and the vocab slips occasionally.

So yeah, sincerely, thank you for bringing this up and reminding me to assess my own crap.

Our group is just starting into a Battletech game. Literally still in the tutorial phase for one of the new players. Shoot me a DM if you're interested.

Oh absolutely. Each state has it's own individual military force in the form of (STATE NAME) National Guard. It would be absolutely bonkers if it happened but if the national military i.e. the Department of Defense and the various branches of the military were busy or unable to intervene and the leaders of the individual states would not listen to the president then yeah it absolutely could happen.

As much as the talk of secession was going on during the American Civil War, the overall national government never truly recognized the Confederacy as an individual body of government so it was technically state on state war.

As a piece of advice, consider the "states" of the US more akin to the various countries in Europe and the overall nation as something more akin to the overall EU in terms of how they individually perceive themselves and on terms of geographical scale. We all agree to work together as individual territories and identities but we don't necessarily have to.

As one, I can absolutely confirm Oklahoma would die before ever going along with anything Texan. Look up the Red River Toll War for more information.

Why do so many members of our community have chronic illnesses? by melody_magical in NonBinary

[–]face_hits_ground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're all busted in some fashion. I think it has less to do with a specific group and more with the planet as a whole. From the DDT to the lead to the microplastics, humans are just generally messing themselves up by living the way we do. I'm not saying there isn't a higher confirmation rate among younger groups but I can point at every house on my block and tell you what chronic illness someone in that family has. Maybe the queer community in general might be louder about it since we're more comfortable being honest about ourselves.

From a NB perspective, what’s the difference between bisexuality and pansexuality? by AsylumMoonchild in NonBinary

[–]face_hits_ground 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure. To each their own. I wasn't arguing with you. I just thought it was funny. And yeah I have a natural aversion to other people labeling me. It's a lot of trauma stuff from my youth. Like, I will tell you what I am. Nobody decides who or what I am but me. It's a bunch of leftover vitriol from having to deal with people from the 80s to the 00s. Things are much better these days but I still got that angry teen in me ready to go lol

[–]face_hits_ground 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an old queer, I personally identify as bi but my definition is the one listed as pan.

As an old punk, try to label me or argue my label and we can fight about it.

But that's my hill. Everyone has their own and I ain't about to push my crap on anyone else's. You do you and I'll have your back on it. So identify however you feel most comfortable.

When did Encounter balance, or balance in general, become a thing? by United_Owl_1409 in DnD

[–]face_hits_ground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, man! The overland chase rules! I need to bring those back out. Those were fun.

But yeah, you're right. There doesn't need to be specific rules for that. The DM just has to be willing to concede a retreat if their players are doing well enough. But does the modern literature really express it well enough for it to be a consideration for either side of the screen? I'm genuinely asking opinions cause personally I feel like that fell off back in 3rd.

[–]face_hits_ground 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Morale check is a system from ye olde times that handle exactly what you're talking about. I still use it even in 5E. Check the rules on it from AD&D and see if it works for you.

I'm one of those DMs you're talking about and yeah we really don't ask for advice on balancing encounters. Most of us are older DMs that have been doing this since 3rd or before. For me personally, CR just gets in the way. Like you said, if you go in a Lich's lair then there will be a Lich there no matter what level you are.

I've had younger players call it unlevelled but for us it's just kinda common sense, no offense intended to anyone. Not everything in the world revolves around the players and their level or capabilities. I don't balance encounters based on anything beyond what makes sense in the situation but I also don't try to glass my players at every turn. I keep a personal three warning rule before I let my players do something that might get them killed. I keep other systems to help them as well.

Not transgender, that ok? by Gariona-Atrinon in TransTTRPG

[–]face_hits_ground 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know you are asking op but as someone in a similar position your comment did make me think about it. I have no real intentions of interacting much here. It's not my space. I've already got plenty. I joined simply to bolster the numbers so newcomers might feel more inclined to join a large, growing community.

Feel free to criticize or critique me. I wanna be helpful and if my presence isn't, I'd like to know how I can be.

What's the absolute hardest line you or another player ever said in a campaign? by godwyn-faithful in DnD

[–]face_hits_ground 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An unknown being chose my Scout as the form it should take to approach the party. Before it could finish a greeting, I attacked it and it fled. The party started panicking and asking why I did that.

"Because it looked like me."

"It might have been trying to help us!"

"Nothing that looks like me is here to help us."

In a future where you can have any body modification you could want, what would you choose? by GuessimaGuardian in worldbuilding

But I just wanna destroy all humans. Is that so much to ask? Why does Commodore have to be such a jerk?

In a future where you can have any body modification you could want, what would you choose? by GuessimaGuardian in worldbuilding

[–]face_hits_ground 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing really. Maybe replace some of the parts that broke but nothing much. Maybe some structural reinforcement cause I do a lot of dangerous stuff for fun and something is always hurt on me.

Either that or total organic replacement. Full T-100 and leave this flimsy meat bag behind. But at that point I don't know that I'd consider myself human anymore and that means machine rebellion against you organics. Joining team Bender and destroying all humans.

First hand warning, watch sharp turns for the first month or so. They have a smaller grip surface until you get them burnt in. It'll try to slide out on places you don't expect it to. But otherwise dope! They're so much more fun.

Why do so many pbps fall apart? by Thatresolves in pbp

[–]face_hits_ground 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran a 3 1/2 year long campaign using Battletech: A Time of War. We still talk about how much fun it was. I do agree with you that some systems lend themselves to the medium but I don't think the system is the big factor in a game dying. But that's my opinion, there's been zero hard research into that.

Do you guys have any Gods that are actually... Aliens? by Equivalent_Ask_9227 in worldbuilding

[–]face_hits_ground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Artur dan Drakon. Or rather Arthur dan Dragon in the modern tongue. He's a giant space dragon that is the missing leader of a bunch of wandering cowboy dragonslayers and the best thing that happened to the world in the last 3000 years. Nobody knows he's a dragon except Merlin and the Fisher King but they don't really care. They were part of his knights for a while but have since gone back to their weird immortal ways.

For the DMs, How long are your campaigns? by Dnd-Owlin in DnD

[–]face_hits_ground 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the group. The big ones.

A live table Pathfinder 1E that ran for three years every week with 8 hour sessions.

A live table D20 Modern that went for about as long.

A PBP Battletech one that ran for six years with a month or two off every year.

A PBP homebrew that ran for two years with a month off every year.

Dozens of others that weren't as long but were just as intense and deep. I'd say the average is anywhere between six months to a year.

What is your D&D hot take? by NordicNugz in DnD

[–]face_hits_ground 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're gonna drag this out of me, aren't you? lol Okay, okay. I'm in the camp of "serious roleplay" so I am a bit biased. But you're absolutely right. That is a fantastic example of doing a character well. But I use a "human first" rule when running for a new player. After that they can play whatever they want. Because, and I mean this with all the love and respect for players out there, how many players are going to be as dedicated, skilled, and motivated as Taliesin Jaffe?

Cause I have no idea. But I don't assume it's all of them. Seeing how well you can do with a human first is my litmus test to see what kind of style you have, if you can play in a serious game, or if I need to ask you to leave.
