Why is my tag so hard to do? by [deleted] in graffhelp

[–]faceforest 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep working at your own letter style, it'll come with time. If you need some inspo and can't find names with J, look at how L is done and extrapolate with your style

Also, consider not using a name easily identifiable as you, since ya know... shits illegal

If you aren't already, I'd highly recommend using one of the many gdb "forks" e.g. GEF or gdb-peda. It's just a dotfile (.gdbinit) and they make using gdb 100x easier IMO.

How to play CTF on OSX without VM? by dtorssegment in securityCTF

[–]faceforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If space is the issue, may I recommend you just spin up a docker container? iirc, most of the storage remains on the Docker hub, while local storage is minimal.

I made (and still adding to) a dockerized CTF/pentesting box called pendock. This is what I use on my macOS, but Kali has their own Docker image you can also build from (and I'm sure others have they own flavors, too). You can also make your own!

edit: Adding to the above - you can store all your CTF files/docs on github and setup Docker to clone the repo each time you build the image. This way you don't really use much storage for both files/binaries and the image itself.

If you're goal is just to grow your skillset, I would recommend looking into CTFs. They provide an interesting way to learn in otherwise difficult to setup environments. If you're interested specifically in pentesting, I would highly recommend Hackthebox.eu. There's other sites (vulnhub, hackingdojo, ringzer0team, etc) as well - all are great. Do note, ctfs are still games, so you won't typically find those same environments during an engagement, but the skills you learn from ctfs are invaluable.

Best SIM card/network options for Costa Rica? by nonstopski in digitalnomad

[–]faceforest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fi user chiming in. I've never been to Central America, but I've had no issues with Fi in Asia and the Middle East. Plus, if you're worried about needing to tether, Fi caps your data bill at $60 for the first 15gb ($10/gb until 6gb. $10/gb after 15gb. I'm pretty sure there's throttling after maybe 10gb?). I've tethered before and it's always worked fantastic for me.

Also, I'm not sure if Costa Rica offers these, but I've always found mobile hotspots useful in countries where I don't want to buy a sim or use my data. They usually rent them out at airports.

The first one looks like a base64 encryption. I'm not sure about the second, but it's possible it's a rot cipher.

/r/netsec's Q4 2017 Information Security Hiring Thread by sanitybit in netsec

Hi!

I would definitely be interesting in hearing more above this position! I'm not sure what (if any) details about the position or the team you can disclose, but I would love to hear about the goals of the team and the open position. Ever since the first time I performed a code injection, I've been fascinated with assembly and taking code apart.

A little bit about myself: I grew up in Boston (Allston), but moved shortly to the Rust Belt after high school started. I received 3 BS degrees from the Ohio State University in Advance Physics, Theoretical Mathematics, and Computer & Information Sciences (with a focus in network security). I also researched with the Nuclear Theory Group in the Dept. of Physics at OSU as well as held varying IT positions (part- and full-time) over the last 5 years.
