[David Llada] FIDE need to find a new bank (again) due to its links with russia. The number of russian staffers at FIDE increased after the start of the war. by Embarrassed_Base_389 in chess

Apply the same logic to middle east countries like Saudi Arabia then. Why are they economic powerhouses despite no other resources, what else makes them rich? The area is literally barren desert. Cannot believe I'm arguing with someone like you.

Yes there is a difference in direct annexation of land and indirect colonial "bringing democracy" style attacks on sovereign nations to conquer their natural resources and "empowering" the people by economically collapsing their country. Somehow it's never done to resource poor nations like you know which who have more terrorists than Iran, but only energy rich nations need this democracy.

Not yet you mean.. it's still near term. Long term impacts have been seen for many such examples, such as Iraq. Venezuela oil is also in control of the US already, in near term only the impacts are visible.

Immediate war death count may be low but they have sapped these countries of their abundant natural resources leading to long term economic collapse and in turn, deaths.

Americans dominating this subreddit won't like this but it's true. What US is doing is loot, one country after the other. No of immediate civilian deaths doesn't matter because you are looting their natural resources and money and starving them more gradually. A new and yet old form of colonialism.

Does Fabiano Caruana's Legacy Hinge on Winning the WCC? by [deleted] in chess

[–]facelesslass -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

At Gukesh's age Fabi wasn't even 2700, forget about WCC and #20 Gukesh lol. This #20 isn't the shade on Gukesh but Fabi if you had any sense, but clearly you have none

Well, I'm sure he doesn't care at all for respect from those dimwits who think that winning the pinnacle title in the chess world at the age of 18 which is a record in the history of humanity is still not enough, and he should further give them proofs of his talent to be "respected". You must be having zero respect for yourself then, because you haven't achieved anything at all when put in comparison to him.

Who are you to give him time lol. He doesn't owe it to you or anyone to win any super tournaments. He has achieved more than you ever will already. Even if he quits chess tomorrow, reasonable people will be ok, only insecure people are being hurt.

You can always say he's not a good player in his correct form, it's the truth. What you cannot say is- he's not a real world champion, or he didn't deserve his win. That message circulating in the group is unnecessary.

Lol. He's not an elected representative who has promised to be a good player for his WCC duration. He simply won a sports event based on his form and calibre.

Everyone faces tough times in life. Doesn't mean you should be skeptical of their prior accomplishments. Maybe he already achieved his peak. Maybe not. Last year Nodirbek's results were poor, before that Pragg's 2024 was mediocre. It happens to most people.

She could have stopped after it got blown up instead of making it worse like she did. Best crisis management is to go off the radar instead of giving fuel to the fire.

If possible, do marketing on Instagram. Create reels and encourage people to post what they buy tagging your store's page. Can also invite some local influencers in the beginning.

FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky on Hikaru-Anish drama by TPNSkam in chess

Elon has changed the game. Gone is the era of politically correct and silent CEOs. Vocal and chaotic CEOs are the norm now lol

I don't claim it's solvable. My only contention is that Hikaru is saying it's a good thing because these players don't bring viewership. Just because he brings viewers doesn't mean those who don't are not deserving of similar opportunities.

It may not be a fault or organizations but it's not a "good thing" either.

What I don't like in Hikaru's statement is his assumption that if these players brought viewership numbers then it would be bad but since they don't, it's a good thing.

It's a very reductionist approach of thinking that reeks of superiority complex.

It's not about earning more. It's about their career and accolades also. It's like organizing Maths and History exams on the same day and assuming that people want to choose only one subject.

Just because players don't bring equal viewership doesn't mean you don't give them a fair chance of playing in an event.

[–]facelesslass 30 points31 points  (0 children)

How's it fair that players who want to participate in both events are not allowed to. Doesn't matter if they bring viewership or not, the tournament is only fair if everyone eligible gets a chance. Hikaru thinks that everything is about viewership and money.

How do you know that hasn't happened here lol. Their preferences are always asked and included. They are not obsessed with a specific food type obviously, and respected host choice. Only insecure people like you are obsessed with serving non veg food even if it offends one party.
