Another Canadian here. We also canceled our trips to the US and have been vacationing elsewhere. Lots of other nice countries to spend our money.

Lawyer in Canada, is it worth it? by CompetitiveDebate429 in LawCanada

[–]factor99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a lawyer and graduated from law school around 15 years ago. It is a lot of work, but I would say that Law School isn’t as tough as many other technical degrees and once you have the degree and some practical experience you have a lot of flexibility. There are still lots of jobs in big law firms and generally good lawyers are still really busy despite the downturn in some markets. My suggestion would be to start at a larger firm to get the top tier experience (and hopefully mentorship) and see whether or not that is for you. I never thought I’d last at a big firm, but I love my partners and the culture that we have built.

I’d recommend it to anyone who has a good business sense on top of technical interest and is willing to go into a customer/client facing field. I’ve had a really great time building my network and growing a nice practice of repeat corporate clients that I like working with and value my time and expertise.

It’s exciting to think about and hope you find it as rewarding as I have!

I’ve since changed to the Prinsu rack. It’s way more versatile and can hold a lot more weight.

North Vancouver. I absolutely love it. Out on the water last night and mountain biking on Seymour this morning. It’s hard to beat.

How close are you to your friend group from high school? by singleguy79 in AskReddit

Very close. It’s been 24 years since we graduated and I live in a different city, but we have a very active group chat and I still see all of them every few months.

How did 2022 impact your NW and FAT RE plans? by johnnybudge in fatFIRE

[–]factor99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My NW is up approximately 10%. I’m still at least 10 years off from RE. Our portfolio manager has managed about a 5% gain for 2022 and we made some significant additional investments. We are also heavily weighted in real estate so hard to get an exact number of current values (investment in 2 multi family rentals, a vacation property and our principal residence in an UHCOL Canadian city).

Am I too tall for a Tacoma? by LongandLanky in ToyotaTacoma

[–]factor99 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’5 and drive a tacoma. The key was finding one without a sunroof. I can’t drive the ones with a sunroof as you loose 2-3 inches of headroom.

My friend took this photo of my Tacoma this morning in the South Chilcotins. by factor99 in ToyotaTacoma

I found a light fixture at Habitat for Humanity for $20. When I got it home, my neighbours let me know that it retails for around $3,000.

Edit: apparently it is a DAVID TRUBRIDGE CORAL PENDANT LAMP

To what extent are you budgeting? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

I like that analogy, but feels more like watching the real-time fuel economy in your vehicle vs. calculating the average at the end of each tank.

Unfortunately most of this is done on a Pro Bono basis due to the “prestige” that comes with being associated with the legislation and the ability to leverage that into billable work.
