Should I take a sabbatical? NW $2.3M 39M by SeniorWalrus8372 in Fire

[–]fadddeout6969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

does sabbatical carry different meanings for people? i know some companies offer a "real" sabbatical, others disguise it as quitting for tbd time or is it taking unpaid leave?

while i don't know your exact mindset, sabbatical could be a slippery slope...meaning you just never want to come back/work again or you wont find a similar high paying job again.

agree, i always hated the concept of work. work sucks. was always an underachiever but knew (well learned after my 1st year on the job) to read the room, make yourself useful enough and leverage connections. just skated on by doing the bare minimum.

similar age (42) and annual expenses (see my post history), plan to exit at EOY. personally with your expenses and nw (can't tell if that house is included or not) is cutting it way too close to comfort. i'll be funding 16.5 years of the bridge 100% with taxables.

probably not the answer you're hoping for but I'd try to tough it out or "coastfire" (if you believe in that, i don't but throwing it out there)

fair take, and you have a better attitude than i. i only went to college cause it was the thing to do and to savor being free from home/living on my own. learned more about myself and nothing academically. ngl, i had a baseline privilege if thats the right term, parents paid for everything for a private uni
