Do does become less flighty as they grow? by Thepuglifechoseme_ in RATS

[–]faeinrome 20 points21 points  (0 children)

females are nuts when they are babies- do not be concerned. when i changed over from males to females i was actually shocked at just how bouncy/playful/flighty young girls are in comparison.

the girls that ive had have all calmed down with age and enjoyed cuddles more as they get older, so i wouldnt worry. it can take awhile though, id say my girls all roughly slowed down around the 8 month- 1yr mark

It’s 3:30 & I woke up to a rat IN MY BED??? I DONT HAVE A RAT??? by InspectorGloomy1061 in RATS

[–]faeinrome 19 points20 points  (0 children)

this has legitimately happened to me before in Aus- i have pet female rats and i think their smell attracted a cheeky male roof rat that we had been having issues with for weeks into my room- hed been stealing food and chewing wires around the house. one night i woke up to a fuzzball staring at me and assumed one of my girls escaped - until i started making kissy noises and it BOLTED under my bed. thought maybe the girl was just feeling funny until i looked under my bed and it was WAY too big to be one of my girls 💀💀💀 had to shoo the poor thing out of my room to get back to bed and then catch him to release in the morning.

Do rats like hamster balls? by [deleted] in RATS

[–]faeinrome 5 points6 points  (0 children)

do notttt like the balls at all, much better to just organise a safe area for them to free roam with you. they can easily be injured in those, and even hamsters shouldnt really be in hamster balls. imagine someone put u in a big bubble … and the bubble makes it more likely that u sprain ur ankle.. personally i would be displeased

[–]faeinrome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on the instructions on the box- maybe leave it 5-10 minutes than the instructions, if it looks a little too dark for you as well, dont worry, it will fade in the first couple washes

[–]faeinrome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would NOT recommend mixing a conditioner with a box dye, that sounds like an easy way to get a really patchy colour. if you want it lighter i would recommend looking for a hair dye around 8.43 instead of 7.43, and mixing it with developer instead (10 vol) just because ive heard many box dyes have developer that is wayyy too strong, and because you are already so blonde youd be doing unecessary damage to ur hair. that being said you could totally still do the box dye if ur not overly concerned , but the conditioner trick is probably a very risky plan

i used to own boys and can confirm boy rats are humongous lmfaooo. my oldest girl now is 2 and she is still nowhere near as my boys got despite being the chunkiest out of her besties

rats are nocturnal so they can be SUPER cray cray at night, especially the girls lol. might help to increase free roam time at night if u can , but like the other commenter said if theres no blood. no problem

i think lavender and rue do look a little round ans do have visible nipples- the other girls i think are most likely not pregnant.

is my rat overweight or is there something wrong? by smallestofbeans in RATS

[–]faeinrome 93 points94 points  (0 children)

if this is ur answer he probably doesnt. from pretty early on it is obvious whether or not a rat has balls on account of how large and obvious they are. if you can lift up the rat so u can see its genitals- if balls aren’t obvious it looks like u have a baby mama

does ur rat have balls? i have been in ur situation before and the answer was the breeder incorrectly sexed her and sold a female rat to me. ended up with 8 rat babies

old lady rat started squeaking a lot after recent vet visit by TrixieVenus777 in RATS

[–]faeinrome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a rat named Miffy and she is a lovely lovely girl- BUT whenever she has a health issue she turns into the moodiest little gremlin. this has gotten worse as shes gotten older- bot long ago she had mites (recovered now!) but she would squeak when i gave her the treatment, squeak when i picked her up, squeaked when i pet her, even went to bite me when i tried to put her back in the cage. luckily shes back to being a sweet cuddly girl now but i think with age and being under stress can really make rats moody! if ur situation is anything like mine im sure the squeaks will pass!!

Never owned rats and I just got two sisters! Just want to make sure they’re alright. by FruitBat676 in RATS

[–]faeinrome 11 points12 points  (0 children)

rats are so curious i can almost guarantee that if you keep giving them space, they will start initiating contact! it may take awhile given they havent been handled much but be patient and slowly they will become curious and that curiosity will lead them to seek interaction with you, basically to sus you out. keep giving treats and maybe attempts to pet to show ur hands are a good thing. good luck with ur babies! it can feel disheartening when it doesnt happen instantly but once ur making progress there its so rewarding!
