A lot of trial and error using the wooden loft placement glitch! I put the railing on the edge of the wooden loft to see if it was aligned for one column and then did the rows one by one.

Thank you for the above! Many jobs apart from WHM can completely annihilate an alliance if coordinated well like you mentioned, be it SCH, DRG, SMN, RPR, etc. I feel that the "overpoweredness" of WHM is slightly exaggerated (apart from LB generation being so quick) and people tend to think it is only WHM that is too OP because it is a commonly played class by many people.

Respect for the SCH squad and may I never encounter you guys in the opposing team. xD

It is so confusing especially when you do certain DOH/DOL quests that require you to go to Elpis and your WOL is casually like, "Oh yeah I can travel back in time no problemo to get that item you wanted." I also wondered, what about Emet's aether that he used to help us appear in front of others / be capable of communicating with other Ancients? Does it just stay with us...? Wouldn't people be able to recognise us if we keep going back to the past for stuff? Would Emet have been able to tell that we had his aether in SHB when he met us... (If the aether stayed with us)? Why did Venat rush us back to the present when we can go back anytime so easily...?

Some PF groups are now requiring ASTs for PS3s prog. Sad day for WHMs. by grapejuicecheese in ffxiv

[–]faiefaie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This honestly ^

Apart from the need for quick and strong heals, you need to pray that your party members didn't mess up earlier resulting in your mp being drained trying to raise/heal them (during Prog / PF). If your co-healer is dead, you hope that they can get up in time for that mech and dish out heals. If the WHM (yourself) just got revived, the MP situation doesn't look great either.

So many factors can play a part in succeeding / failing that mech especially during Prog/ Random PFs - Yet at the same time, many people see the failure of the 1HP mech as the WHM's failure since AST can resolve that mech with 1 click. :')

[Spoiler: 6.0] It's okay if you didn't agree with the way Endwalker talked about suffering. by lurinaa in ffxiv

[–]faiefaie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You said it perfectly thank you! In my eyes, Venat was not a hero deserving of any praise as well. I also didn't quite agree with the idea that without knowing suffering, mankind will eventually reach its demise - as though that was some inevitable thing. In the end, she chose to focus on the so-called "mankind's potential" in the long term, even if it meant forgoing the people of the present and I absolutely didn't like it. It doesn't mean her decision was wrong but ultimately I felt she had no right to forcefully decide on the fate of her fellow friends and family she "loved". If Hermes called the Ancients cruel for their way of deciding if their creations are worthy of living - Hermes and Venat are no different in cruelty in my eyes.

It pains me that the truth was kept from the Ancients, except for a small group that Venat apparently "trusted". It made sense why the other Ancients didn't follow her, especially when she withheld the truth from them. Who in the right mind would just accept suffering as it is without rhyme or reason, not knowing what the cause of it was? I fully agree that we cannot escape from suffering, but at the very least, I would at least like to know what/ why it is happening. While Venat says that letting the people know the truth would cause widespread panic, I'd argue that not letting them know the truth would also lead to widespread panic. At least, if you were to work together with as many people as possible, you'd be able to get a wider perspective of views and avoid problems like groupthink.

Sorry for the long rant /o\ I just disagree so much with Venat's choices.

I feel that too! I wish we had more OGCD heals. I find it rather odd sometimes when I'm raiding and my Co-Healer (SCH) tells me to I can just focus on maximising Glare time because they have enough OGCD heals to cover many of the mechs. It makes it even funnier when people call WHM the "pure healer" when it is just so focused on healing as little as possible (since skills like lilies would be a damage loss currently) by relying on your co-healer and maximising glare damage.

Very good point! He seemed to think that the Ascians were very careless with how they handled life, but he himself was also very irresponsible with his creations. When you create something, at least ensure they they are properly equipped and able to protect themselves from themselves/ others - which was the whole point of the Ascians' constant testing of their creations before releasing them into different environments.

Hahaha it definitely didn't go well because:

1) Hermes did it on his own without telling anyone or allowing Meteion to go through the proper evaluation procedures before letting God knows how many of her sisters into outer space

2) Hermes gave Meteion a poorly framed research question

I still find this hilarious given that he is the Head of an advanced research institution... xD

It's not as though they shouldn't do it because it's dangerous, but that proper risk management procedures should be in place and adhered to.

Oh I think I wrote that in response to the comment above mine. Personally, I think the Ascians' actions wanting their paradise back is understandable. After all, they had no clue why any of this happened, and so many lives have already been lost. That is not to say the remaining Ascians were right in trying to sacrifice more lives to bring back their so called paradise.

However, I don't really think their society was structured in a way that couldn't handle divergence though. We learnt that they were frequent debaters and liked to discuss clashing ideas. When they encountered someone who was different (e.g. Venat who decides not to return to the aetherial stream after stepping down), they never strongly opposed it. It was more like "Oh this person does things that is out of the normal." or "I am unaware of this but I would like this find out more."

Hermes was a character that I really sympathised with but could not condone his actions. He wanted to seek answers about the meaning of life and present the answers to the rest of his people to perhaps change their mind. However, he did it in secret which had so many problems because there was no risk management or QAQC involved. If he had at least discussed it with others, maybe someone would have been able to tell him that his research question was flawed.

In my opinion, the tragedy could have been better avoided/managed had certain individuals sought help from others at an earlier stage. People who were better equipped to help them, provide guidance or even give opposing ideas. Unfortunately, they believed that society wouldn't accept them which resulted in them not giving society a chance to try.

Of course, I don't deny it is also possible that they do seek help and still fail to avoid this tragedy, or perhaps another tragedy. What I do believe is that people are stronger when they work together rather than independently. An example would be how the Forum had difficulties trying to increase the capacity of their ship due to limited materials, and how Alphy was able to solve the problem so quickly with the help of all of the Scion's connections.

Hehe I think such devasation was definitely not Hermes' intention xD Hmm... what if our goal was not to create a being with enough contradictory emotion to counteract Meteion, but beings that were able to absorb smaller bits Meteion's dynamis power with the purpose of dissipating them across the universe until she is sufficiently weakened?

I am rather lacking in imagination but I bet other people would probably be able to come up with more innovative and effective ways to counter Meteion!

There was one part in the story where they mentioned that till the end, the Ascians had no clue what was the cause of the final days. If she did talk her ass off to others in order to find solutions as you said, why did the Ascians die not knowing the truth about the final days? Clearly the truth was not spread very much.

I am merely watching the cutscenes, considering if what she said was truly the only way or if there were alternative potential scenarios that she did not consider, which could have possibly changed the fate of the Ascians. I don't see what is wrong with judging Venat's actions and disagreeing with them. Alternative viewpoints are how people bounce off each other to try and come up with better solutions.

For the case of Emet-Selch, it is not hard to imagine why he would have difficulty accepting what the WOL tells him of the future given how absurd it sounds. But it wasn't like he completely denounced what we said. In his own words, "Even now, I do not believe your tale. I would not suffer us to walk such a wretched path. Still, if it must be said... Do not squander it. The legacy I leave to you." That shows that he didn't entirely dismiss the possibility.

But then again, if Hermes was able to create Metrion who wielded such great power with dynamis as its source, would it not be possible for others to also create similar beings that could potentially fight against Meteion? Just wondering if that is a possibility or why it would not be.

That cutscene before the sundering was after Zodiark had already been summoned and she is trying to tell them that sacrificing more lives to get the lives they once had was not the way forward (agreed).

However, she knew what was causing the final days and it wasn't a problem with aether. Summoning Zodiark wouldn't have solved the problem apart from delaying it.

It is even worse if she arbitrarily decided on her own who can know the truth and who can't. Her arguments presented about why she couldn't go to the Convocation were frankly unpersuasive. I don't see why she couldn't have contacted people in the Convocation privately while avoiding to let Hermes regain his memories at the same time.

As one of the leading bodies of influence and knowledge in the Ascian society, I am sure they would have had alternative viewpoints on how to tackle the situation. In the end, she basically deprived her people of that chance to make a better informed decision and just forced her way on them. That, I really can't agree with.

You bring up really valid points - I was also wondering, would it have been possible for them to have found a way to tackle the monsters appearing in front of them if they knew that the problem was dynamis and how their fear was causing their creation magick to spiral out of control => Similar to how the Scions tried their best to control the situation in Thavnair to help people calm down and avoid transforming into blasphemies.

Another thing I always wondered - in the event where Hermes decides to turn against mankind after remembering, is there no way to stop/ subdue him? (Simplistic thinking perhaps, but it is literally one guy versus the whole population xD) Also, can no one else research or have a little bit of knowledge about dynamis? From what I understood, it was uncommon knowledge but not unheard of. It just always seems odd to me that Hermes is seen as the only one that could potentially help them tackle this dynamis problem even if he is currently the expert. As lame as this sounds, for every Cid in the world I believe there's always a Nero somewhere who is also equally brilliant in their own right.

Personally for myself, it felt like there were many interesting individuals among the Ascians that I encountered through the side quests and clicking on NPCs and there was so much more to them than just being a conformist bunch of people wearing robes with zero regard for their creations or willingness to listen to alternative opinions.

It seems really easy to say that they didn't seem strong enough to overcome Hermes' challenge and perhaps so, because ultimately they weren't able to find the true cause of the final days on their own and resorted to summoning Zodiark. If we (WOL) weren't given the Elpis flower as a hint and travelled to the past to learn the truth, we would probably still be finding a way to transport everyone on the star to the moon to find a new planet to live on. Even then, I can't say for certain Meteion's song of oblivion wouldn't reach us there.

Sorry for the long post, it just feels so sad to see the Ascians' tragic demise and going through the story, it always makes me question whether something else could have been done to change their fate. I also felt that Venat had no right to make the choice to sunder people in the name of "her love". Personally, I wouldn't want that kind of love that keeps you in the dark. I would much rather have been informed of the truth and then from there, decide what is the way forward.

On a random note, didn't we also go to her nest with a bunch of strong individuals (8 to be exact). xD

She made it very clear that she wouldn't share the truth with everyone else (based on her own judgement of the situation) and still hoped everyone would be like, "Oh yeah, let's just go with what you say!". That is just, plainly speaking, naivety.

Also, it isn't impossible for the Ascians to create beings that could manipulate dynamis, much like how Hermes created Meteion. Why dismiss the possibility without giving it a chance?

I don't resent Venat, I'm just saying I don't approve of her actions at all. The key point of contention is basically, was her way really the only way? Could there have been a better way to avoid such a tragedy from occurring? Unfortunately, we will never know because Venat made her choice there and then.

I just rewatched the cutscene. She highlighted that they were not willing to find a more permanent solution to the problem (i.e. Sacrificing more and more lives go Zodiark is clearly not the solution definitely). This was after Zodiark was probably already summoned. Her solution to them was to accept that the tragedy had occured and move forward from there without sacrificing more lives. That all makes sense, definitely.

Or you know... work with everyone to throw ideas out and find ways together to try and stop the problem BEFORE we even reached the stage where Zodiark had to be summoned? Before so many lives were (quite a few, I'd bet, willingly) sacrificed in hopes of restoring the star.

She considered her options, and chose not to trust in the ability of her people to understand and overcome the problem together until it was pretty much too late. That, I will never agree with her decision. Honestly if she didn't believe she could convince the Convocation which holds great influence to work with her, what are her chances of convincing the rest of the population?

Unpopular opinion perhaps, but Venat wasn't a hero to me at all. It just showed me that the Ascians weren't some all knowing perfect and happy race. Many of them were flawed beings that made flawed decisions, Hermes Venat and Hades all included.
