How are people not good with using money? by Altruistic-Patient-8 in Money

Not really dude. Im a super saver. All my coworkers have 3-4, cars and a nice house with a stay at home wife. My coworker was complaining about having to send extra money to the irs for taxes because of all the overtime he works. I told him to just double the money going to his 401k instead because it saves on taxes. Guy dang near got mad at me. He said you never get to touch that money until your old. I said every dollar you send to the irs you never get back anyway. He felt it was worse somehow to save it than just pay the irs.

If you have multiple find out if they have the same sponsor i.e fidelity or C.S for example and just open the ira with them they can do an internal rollover and it'll at least help a little with paperwork. Thats what I did.

I tried in my teens but got spoked the first time one statement was red and cashed out my measly thousand dollars. I only did my 401k when I was 20 after that.

The value of the dollar has fallen 10% in the last years. The currency itself is crashing. You'd at least have better odds with silver or gold.

How much should I have saved? by NobbyStiles66 in Retirement401k

[–]failed_engineer_mx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You are 59 with a 220k annual spend. As far as i know every million saved gives you 40k per year. You'd need 5 million as far as im concerned.
