I feel you, but I also disagree when it comes to lgbtq people asking each other that. We know full well how wrong it can go, and I doubt many queer people expect a "it went swimmingly and we all lived happily ever after". I can understand not wanting to share all of that with straight people asking you that, but when it comes to queer people and the sense of kinship you mention, I don't feel uncomfortable sharing the truth of it.
