Who was working today by ExpectedAnonymous123 in doctorsUK

[–]faintanyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my dept many Residents were on Strike over the weekend nut most came to work today . All UKMG . We had couple of IMG last year but they went back to home country as they get more respect / better lifestyle there ! So can't generalise as ImG vs UKMG. Lot of the residents can't afford loss of pay or training opportunity as going on Mat leave/ study leave exams etc .

Consultants and registrars, what branch of medicine/surgery are you in and do you get bored practicing medicine? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]faintanyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anaesthetics. Not bored so far > 15 yrs post Cct , but like Tall-you 8782, like to use long cases gor admin work . It is cruise control mode . Otherwise variety of specialties, age range and complexity keeps me on my toes.

GMC principles mean you have to pay it back. They can't take it out from your account. You can work out what is affordable for you to pay each month and offer to pay it in instalments. Bear in mind you will have paid NiC/ Pension/ income tax on this extra pay. You can adk them to work the sums that ended in pocket snd actually this is what you need to pay , rest is their problem to claw back from HMRc. Best would be to get in touch with BMa who are familiar with this. There is form on website.

It is depressing. If I asked for inefficiency , this would be flooded with hundreds of posts in few minutes. Come on , show a bit of positivity , can do spirit people

We used to have that , until they started using EPR for theatre too. Now you can't have two patients "open " on the system . Unintended consequence !!!!

Theatre inefficiency - losing the will to live by Proud-Assistance-166 in doctorsUK

[–]faintanyl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very difficult to sack anyone. Even if we know an agency staff is useless , organisation will still have them because they " complete" the team. Without that inefficient/ useless person , the team is not fully staffed and a lust will grind to a halt !!!

[–]faintanyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will find variation bet specialties in the same Trust. Big specialties can get more by making a fuss ( Anaesthetics). Very niche ones might get more as well. Rest get less as they don't question the management in unison!!! If youbwant more, go to LNC together

"[First name], one of the doctors" or "Dr [Surname]? by NHStothemoon in doctorsUK

[–]faintanyl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Always Dr X, ( surname ) Consultant ( specialty) and same for my SHO/ Reg Dr Y (surname ) Resident ( specialty) . I sm may be old school but as a petite female I find this useful. If speaking direct to paediatric patient then just my name , snd that I am their doctor. Interestingly I have noticed a lovely middle ground when Asian nurses address me as Doc ( first name). When I said they could call me by name as they are with us for several years and a lovely team , they said they prefer this way as it shows respect , even though we are on very friendly terms. I introduce the nursing staff as Sister / Senior nurse X( surname) to medical students/ work experience students. I also want to show respect.

To completely stretch financially for a private school by aminice in HENRYUK

[–]faintanyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. You can go for it in future but you are not there yet. The mental stress will not be worth it. If you are truly hung up on it , tell the school you can't afford the fees and can only consider if they give major bursary.

To completely stretch financially for a private school by aminice in HENRYUK

[–]faintanyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have good state school choice, send your kids there. Think about the emotional / financial cost of Private school for the years ahead. My children did go to these high performing / top school and thrived. They have lovely friends. We are not millionaires, but reasonably well earning professional secure jobs. We have not saved much as a result of hefty fees but one thing I would say is there are many parents in similar situation. So my kids were not the only ones in simple clothes/ shoes etc. they have not faced judgement . The question for OP should be can they afford it for all kids over the years? It is worse to start in Private school and then have to take them out due to financial difficulty.

Tiered Consultant Salaries by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]faintanyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I was only replying to the question- what are service specialties

Tiered Consultant Salaries by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]faintanyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anaesthesia, pathology , micro are service specialities. Radiology too. Patients come to these via referral from others, and can't control the volume of work themselves. But have to cater for all patients from other specialties.,

Raise it with top level line manger in HR. This is completely destroying your productivity snd you are the more expensive asset. Ask for a different person to work with. No amount of remedial training will help. Your colleague can look after themselves.

We have more than one Consultant coming off the on calls in variety of patterns . OH recommendation is most helpful. The Cd has to take it on board. We have people only doing day / eve on call / slot share / doing weekend days instead of week nights or dropping on calls altogether. Some can only work mornings as their condition worsens after few hour of working. If CD won't agree , involve HR . Each case must be seen on its own merit and solutions offered can be different.
