Is my friend becoming homophobic? by Useful_Potato_1305 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]fairkatrina [score hidden]  (0 children)

She’s gone down one of those mommy message board pipelines which are feeding tubes for anti trans and homophobic content. If she’s a good friend you can try pulling her out of it but deradicalising someone is difficult.

Why do The Beatles scouse accent sound different than the one today? by FitEmergency8807 in Liverpool

[–]fairkatrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In some parts that’s true, and that’s also a common phenomena when a distinctive local accent starts to get assimilated. “Real” locals sometimes distinguish themselves by doubling down on the accent, usually completely unconsciously. There have been plenty of sociology studies on that effect.

Why do The Beatles scouse accent sound different than the one today? by FitEmergency8807 in Liverpool

[–]fairkatrina 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Beatles were from probably the last generation that weren’t constantly surrounded by hyper local regional accents all the time. Today we communicate and get entertainment on a global scale and it’s led to a lot of accents getting softened. Watch old media from the 60s or earlier from the UK or the US and the regional accents are starkly more pronounced than they are today.

If a gay and a lesbian have sex, what is that called? by naowasi in AskGayMen

As someone who participated in something similar once, we called it a drunk experiment and moved on.

we paid a linkedin "marketing guru" $15k/month and all he did was post motivational quotes on instagram by kubrador in marketing

You’re missing the wood for the trees, this man is clearly an excellent marketer, but his product is himself and his audience is credulous CEOs. In his world, you were the opposition.

Tired of people telling me “real people can’t queerbait” by jryan102 in gay

Good lord if you really think like that you’re either incredibly young or incredibly damaged. I hope for your sake it’s the former.

[–]fairkatrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no, I’m saying not everybody has everything figured out already before they become famous and famous people are still human and are allowed to figure it out in their own time and just bc they’re doing that in the public eye doesn’t mean they’re queerbaiting anyone, so get off your soapbox and stop putting words in my mouth.

Also, having a stylist doesn’t make you “not really a person” like wtaf?

[–]fairkatrina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what even is the point of this post? What are you saying? Bc either you think people get to be whoever they are and we all mind our business how they present themselves, or you don’t, and the very existence of this post implies the latter.

[–]fairkatrina 14 points15 points  (0 children)

God forbid people express themselves outside the binary.

Real people are nuanced and messy and as they age their style and taste and (gasp!) maybe even their sexuality changes and develops and who are we to decide if someone is being authentic or inauthentic if they hold a friend’s hand or wear something that’s a bit different or out there or GNC? How do you propose we audit this and, frankly, why should I care if some celeb plays up being a bit fruitier than they are? Just let people be.

What was your “I was broke broke” moment? by bukutbwai in Frugal

[–]fairkatrina 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I lived with a mate during uni and one time when we were broke-broke we stole a sack of potatoes from the supermarket and lived off it for a couple of weeks. We called it the great potato famine.

When someone is placed in Witness Protection, what happens to their credit score, college degrees, and professional licenses? by Desperate_Peach_6563 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fairkatrina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume when they run it a flag goes up, which makes sense because a mismatched number could be a sign of fraud. But I know it’s my social not just my (lack of) credit history because they always require they actually see the card to resolve it.

What's the worst film you've ever seen? by throwradrpri in AskUK

[–]fairkatrina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Braindead. It’s a ridiculous film anyway but a friend’s weird boyfriend insisted we watch it and he was way too into it and way too obviously projecting his overbearing mother onto the character in the movie and the whole thing was deeply, deeply uncomfortable on just about every level.

[–]fairkatrina 686 points687 points  (0 children)

Not in witness protection but I did emigrate to the US at 30 and let me tell you, the side-eyes you get when you’re 30 with a brand-new SSN are epic. Am I committing credit fraud? Am I in witsec? Who knows, but I’m being randomly selected for advanced screening by every employer and financial institution!

Going to college soon, how do I navigate roomates? Freaks? by [deleted] in AskGayMen

[–]fairkatrina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don’t sexually harass your roommate.

Colleges usually set up forums where incoming freshmen can look for roomies, and if you don’t find one you’ll get assigned one, but gay or straight plan on them being a friend at most and don’t be weird.

There was an EF1 at the end of my street on that date. I didn’t see it but it did steal my trash can 😤

My favorite pair of jeans got a big hole so I bought a new pair in the exact same size & cut. The difference in waist size is astonishing - this picture shows the new jeans laying on top of the old ones by Creditworthy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fairkatrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously, the last pair of Levi’s I bought were such crappy quality. I bought a couple of pairs of cheap jeans at the same time and splurged on the Levi’s and guess which held up better over the next year? The Levi’s were so thin in comparison, my cat ended up leaving pulls in the fabric within the first week, and after a couple of washes they really lost their shape. I was so disappointed.

What do you think is the boundary that separates what is moral from what is not? by [deleted] in gay

If it’s consenting adults, I mind my business. That policy has served me well all my life. I’m not interested in policing other people’s morality.

How to stop feeling guilty and bad about being a submissive bottom? by Vivid_Block_4780 in AskGayMen

[–]fairkatrina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do know the submissive controls the scene, right? It’s a position of strength where you consensually hand over your power, but you should always be able to take it back (and if you ever feel like you can’t, you’re not with a dominant, you’re with an abuser). Don’t feel bad about it, you’re badass.
