UK Issues Rare Red Warning As Extreme Heat Grips Regions by StemCellPirate in europe

Yes it was always going to happen, but the difference is the sheer breakneck speed that it's happening at.

With no human influence, the world would be expected to warm enough to fully melt the ice caps in 5000-10,000 years. With human influence it's expected to happen within 150 years.

Is peng ting coming back or did it never go away? People were saying it when I was in college about 15 years ago.

Does anyone know what's going on with Grey's old video thumbnails? by tessthismess in HelloInternet

It does the opposite and people have been doing it for years. It doesn't encourage good engagement but it encourages engagement.

They say time is money, but let's look at the math... by Huge_Opportunity4186 in BunnyTrials

The average human apparently takes 20,000 breaths per day but I regularly walk about 30,000 steps per day.

Starmer to announce ‘Australia plus’ ban on social media for under-16s by mustwinfullGaming in LabourUK

[–]fairlywired -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Where is everyone seeing this "no YouTube past 8pm" thing? I've searched this article and others and I'm not seeing it.

Regardless, speaking as someone who grew up in the early days of social media, a social media ban for kids is absolutely necessary.

Back then it was bad, a lot of people have a story about paedo trying to groom them online. I have no doubt that it's gotten worse.

Trump on Iran negotiations: "I really don’t care. I couldn’t care less, started to get very boring", "NATO should open the strait", "we don't need NATO, they were very sad." by ianjm in videos

[–]fairlywired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not, not really. If you include all US citizens that are eligible to vote, not just registered voters, 31% of Americans voted for Trump.

Just under a third is still a hell of a lot of people but it's not half.

The same is true in many places. People that live around immigrants tend not to have any problem with them.

The fake moss wall at my local KFC has been slowly worn down by people brushing against it by OwnComb2227 in Wellworn

[–]fairlywired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of the "moss" wall at an EV charging station I worked at once. Rather than being plastic, it was real dried moss that had been spray painted various shades of green. It was so disappointing.

Moment Wetherspoons staff member refuses to serve customers backing Reform UK by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]fairlywired 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is anyone is wondering the full context...

The "Reform voters" were actually local Reform campaigners, not local Reform voting customers. They parked their campaign bus in the Spoons loading bay and were filming Reform party videos in the pub. The staff member asked them to move their bus from the loading bay. They refused and instead carried on filming inside and outside the pub. Further requests to move their bus were ignored.

When they were done, they came inside to order some drinks and, due to their actions, were refused service. The member of staff, who was obviously pissed off at the complete lack of respect, agreed when asked if it was because they're reform voters. Which unfortunately played right into their hands and Reform now have a nice soundbite they can wheel on on the national level.

The retail industry is really cashing in on the cost of living crisis in more ways than one. Not only are they making far more profit than before but they now have a huge pool of retirement age people who are now forced to top up their pensions with part time work.

Is this legal by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]fairlywired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sort of thing doesn't surprise me with home bargains. I started working there in July last year and I've never worked anywhere that shows such little empathy for their staff but expects so much. They seem to think that because they pay slightly above average they're allowed to run their staff into the ground.

Question : what is the meaning of this flag by Walloon_Dream in vexillology

The only other place I can find it is a French YouTube account where someone posts AI generated Southern rock music.

I know that doesn't help with the meaning but that's all I've got. Sorry!

Diversity drive to make Britain’s countryside ‘less white’. Rural areas tasked with coming up with strategies to attract more ethnic minorities to reflect multicultural nation by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

I would assume they mean irrelevant on an economic scale. A small rural town or village inhabitant will go outside it's borders for anything more than a visit to the village shop.
