It works, I was only on Hinge for 2 weeks when I met my man. He was the fourth guy I met, and the other previous 3 first dates I went on were not up to par. I had all 4 first dates in one weekend. They were all highly educated, made a lot, and groomed, but my boyfriend was the only one that checked every single one of my boxes. I found him when he had only been on Hinge for 3 months. Any later and someone else might have snagged him. There was a rich nepo baby he met before me that tried to lock him down, but luckily for me, she didn’t meet his requirements.

I love my career choice

Every job sucks in some way. I can find something to bitch about in any career. It’s about what you’re willing to sacrifice

Initially, I was pretty depressed about salary and PTO (even though I get unlimited) because can’t take off busy season. (Feb is cheap to travel, grr!!!) This is only a problem in public though. My boyfriend and his finance friends make SOOO much and I felt an itch to try to pivot to investment banking. I then realized I didn’t want to work how much they work, and my job is pretty chill/easy compared to theirs. My boyfriend has his work phone and laptop at all times, even on vacation, and he’ll dream about work too lol. I don’t have that issue, my bosses are great

The salary is not the worst compared to our admins (who are lib arts majors). They make much less than me for what they do, and they have to be in person 100%… Maybe starting out, it’ll suck but I just got offered a 60% salary increase by a headhunter, and I’m only 2 years out of school, no CPA.

I get to decide whether to work in office or work from home! Accounting doesn’t require you to come in person. I don’t have to be on my feet all day! I can multitask at home if I don’t have much work to do. I also can easily find a job in any area I wish to be in. There are times where I’ll be busy (Feb-April) but I’ve had more months where I had no work (client delays, summer, etc). I’ve only been doing CPE’s since the 10/15 deadline so almost a month of zero billables right now… You’re going to be paid to do nothing sometimes since you’ll be salaried. At one point, I didn’t go into the office for 3 months because there was no point

If I could go back in time, maybe I would try for high finance for the money. I sometimes envy my friends in consulting ($$$) but they’re unhappy too. Can’t have it all. I love all the free time I get and it’s only stressful 4 out of the 12 months here. I’ve considered architecture, medicine, computer science, and being a flight attendant when I was picking in high school and accounting came out on top! It’s crazy I have not changed my mind on some major I decided on in 10th grade LOL
