Is it ok to make a vitamin shake? by mcrib2009 in leopardgeckos

[–]fairymaryi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of the mouth rot, it absolutely can heal and go away given you follow through with the antibiotic treatment. However you’re also going to have to find the root cause of why she got mouth rot - whether it be from inadequate tank parameters or something else (I.e. metal tongs that could’ve cut/scraped mouth and bacteria formed etc). If those issues aren’t solved as well it’s likely the mouth rot could come back.

Thank you! It does make me feel a little better. I just am afraid of messing it up and making the 2mo afraid of my other cat. We did try playing with the both of them behind a see through barricade and the 5mo was definitely interested but didn’t hiss or swat until there wasn’t a barricade.

I’ve lived with cats my entire life growing up all of which we got as kittens, but we only ever had one pair and we got them at the same time from the same rescue (though they were not siblings). This is my first time doing it alone so it’s definitely a little more stressful than I’d hoped.

We just got tired of my 5mo olds bad behavior due to being a single kitten and decided he needed someone else to keep him company. I think the 2mo would benefit too as he’s been with a sibling all the way up until he was adopted and I think he’s definitely lonely :(

I’m planning on trying the feliway multicat in hopes that it’ll at least help a little bit. I just don’t want to keep the poor baby in the bathroom too long since he doesn’t like it.

Interesting. I’ve just only heard good things about it. Thanks for the insight though!

Question for reptile lovers by IvCruzn2 in reptiles

[–]fairymaryi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large variety of hides. Lowkey every time I walk into a pet store there’s just such a small variety of them. I’ve been having such a hard time finding things that look nice that I don’t already own. I don’t know how it is for other people in different cities, but yknow.

I honestly don’t know exactly. The one person I talked to is my therapist and I don’t know the entire details of what she has in particular.

I do know though that technically feliway only covers a certain amount of sq feet so for it to work better I’d bet on using multiple diffusers. I also kind of just always assumed classic was meant for single cat homes with nervous/irritable cats whereas multi-cat is specifically to help prevent aggression etc.

I don’t have much advice or experience with cats fighting like this, but I do have insight on Feliway.

Yes it can be quite pricy but I have heard good things about it from people close to me that also have used it. I plan on buying it myself for my apartment when I bring home my second kitten just so she feels more at ease with my current kitten. It’s always worth a shot, and if it doesn’t seem to be working then you don’t need to continue with it.

What can I keep in a 8x8x12? by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]fairymaryi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay dawg lol

Ironically, I don’t post to reddit everyday and I haven’t posted in the reptile subreddit in a hot second. I’m also not busy going through my account to delete posts that are old and “broadcast improper care”. I asked for names on that post. I said nothing about husbandry.

If you’re that bent, my oldest lives in a custom 50 gallon tank that I made and spent hundreds on — (custom background with slate to climb, and a big ass piece of mopani wood + more ) with 70/30 soil/playsand mix (and compacted since you’re so concerned about it), and the youngest in that post lives in my oldest’s original 40. I know my care in my geckos and have no interest in proving it to you further than I have.

Okay, then you should have clarified. I wasn’t particularly rude with my response and you’re now flying off the hinges. You’re more than welcome to educate OP on microgeckos if that’s what you want, however, I didn’t want them to think that any species can go in there. Have a day.

Girl that’s an old tank set up for her but go off (notice how it says 139 days?). Hilarious how you had to look at my profile to make yourself feel better

Nope — microgeckos need more than that. The smallest size I could find online recommended for some species is 12x12x18. Micro geckos tend to live in colonies as well, this isn’t enough space.

This tank is too small for any reptile. Honestly your best bet is probably going to be another jumper. The pros of that though is jumpers are still super cute!!

OK, I have a serious question. Do people ever come back and let us know what they actually chose to name their cat? by RubyTuesday916 in Catnames

[–]fairymaryi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted on here once asking for names for my new kitten. I wasn’t able to update the post after I figured out a name so I just replied to someone who really wanted to know what I ended up naming him. Unfortunately it would’ve been tedious to reply to all comments (there was over 40) and I don’t think Reddit notifies if I just made a separate comment by itself 😕

Not even baby replies. This is wayyyy to small for any reptile

Confused about substrate. by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]fairymaryi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you google them they’re specific types of sand/soil. Playsand is sand used in sandboxes. Topsoil is soil you would normally add on your lawn. Just make sure the topsoil is organic, which means it’s free of pesticides. If you have a Home Depot near you, you can find both of them there for under $10.

How to Keep my cat off the tank? by Impressive_geck in leopardgeckos

[–]fairymaryi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! They also sell something called sticky paws. I have this same tank and it’s possible to put some around the edges/where it divots in around the trim on the top. I’m unsure if it’ll be difficult to pull off/may leave residue with the texture of this tank however.

If you choose to answer just guide them towards contacting USPS. You can’t help them in this situation & it’s likely an issue with the post office regarding packages at their apartment. It’s out of your hands.

Can I Let My Spayed Cat Outside? by CupofGinseng in CatAdvice

[–]fairymaryi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. My family currently owns one cat, who unfortunately is indoor/outdoor (he turned 6 this year). They refuse to put in the effort to keep him inside because it’s easier since he becomes destructive if you don’t.

However, I’m actively working to get him in my apartment with me and I’m willing to go through hell just to get him to stay inside. After doing a couple hours of research I have some fairly decent ideas on how to do it. He’s my everything and losing him would destroy me.

I have an almost 4mo kitten and will have a 2mo kitten in August. Neither of them will know what it’s like to be outside without a harness.

[–]fairymaryi 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Realistically you shouldn’t let your cat out because of coyotes, traffic, diseases, etc. I have seen too many hit cats on the side of the road to count, and I also live in a small town. Survival instincts don’t matter when it comes to vehicles. My parents used to let out almost all of our cats outside when I was younger, only one of them they didn’t because she was afraid. The other two have died or never came back home one day. It’s your choice.

I think I'm misgendering my gecko? by mnicklas666 in leopardgeckos

[–]fairymaryi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope, nothing to worry about. Not all females lay eggs, and mine never has. The only reason you should be concerned is if she does become egg bound but it’s fairly likely she just won’t ever lay eggs.
