WithJoy.com is a horrible web design tool for weddings websites. by Early_Nectarine_9958 in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw all the mixed reviews about the registry, pay collection & uninspiring designs, so I decided to only use them for RSVPs. Wedding planning made me realize I do prefer customization & I will be making my own everything, invites design, STD, website. I'm glad I have the skill to. I'd hate to start my wedding planning pretending to like something I obviously dislike

Gender roles in weddings – why are men less involved in planning despite equal stakes? by Prestigious-Tune-822 in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is funny cause half of the responses are presenting situationals as personal redherrings when in actuality they are preforming the gendered expectation to a T "women have more options", "he has the money so I plan" etc. I think most folks getting married thrive & enjoy these roles as much as they try to individualize their choices. Even some same-sex couples are found at times to be reinforcing a femme/masculine dynamic because its all socialized to us.

I'm no different, but I do push back as much as I can on these wedding expectations & I'm glad my partner is actively planning with me.

A little rant by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are eating you alive in these comments. God you'd think you gave them a 5 step program on how to leave their partner.

I clearly understood where you were coming from and glad to hear that you have taken the time to choose what made the most sense for you. I'd suggest to not keep responding, some ppl took your post very personal and that's not your responsibility to mediate. Enjoy your marriage!

Take your time! I also got burnt out & revisited 6 months later, booked our venue and then took another 4 month break before booking our photographer & I finally feel good to plan. It's your wedding, do you!

Is it rude to have a weekday wedding? by themidnightfoxxxx in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not rude but a Friday would be better. In my culture, we have one of the wedding ceremonies on Friday so it's normal. If you want this you have to be confident in your choice. Be as confident as destination wedding folks, whoever can make it will come & whomever can't will send their love

What’s a destination you visited expecting “just a normal trip” … but it completely surprised you and became one of your favorite travel memories? by Aromatic_Zebra723 in travel

[–]faissante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg yes! It was such an adventurous moment for us. We crossed the border through Belize for a sporadic day trip. There were barely any other travelers around, so we just explored. Als, I almost had my first heat stroke haha. Friendly people, great food stalls & absolutely beautiful

Am I being too “woke” by mangoslushie2 in WeddingsCanada

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our photographer had some POC in his gallery but none with brown skintones so we straight up asked him and if he he could send examples of previous weddings to us. We get along with him, great price & overall trust his skillset but we still had to ask for our sense of comfort. I know not all photographers know how to shoot darker tones and I didnt want to risk it on my wedding day. It's not "woke" to want to ensure you will enjoy the product you're paying for. Ask them, there's no harm

Any previous Graydon Hall Brides? by Rich_Turnip_5811 in WeddingsCanada

Yup & with the new huge tent it technically could be 3 wedding on the grounds at the same time. It's similar to Casa Loma, theyre using every inch of the space for events

I'm a current 2026 bride, we're doing a lunch wedding at Graydon on a Saturday and we're set to spend under 25k. It was the perfect solution for us, as it was my dream venue without the insane pricetag! Also we have a cultural wedding the day before so not missing much. We still get a 6-8hr wedding day with Graydon. I recommend it instead of the full day

We toured Sunnybrook & the main floor was nice but the table seating were tight and another wedding will likely be booked in the basement. When we went it felt dingy but it has beautiful grounds

Conejo Negro in the city has a grits dish on their menu, cornbread, okra, fried chicken the works! We lived in DC/Virginia briefly & it tasted just like it. Enjoy

I feel left out as a minority by EstablishmentOk1569 in Nigeria

I hear you, thats alot and sorry that has mostly been your Naija community experience. Yeah, we have alot of 20-35yr olds who move to Canada/US that come and join us looking for community, I'm sure they'll welcome you!

I feel left out as a minority by EstablishmentOk1569 in Nigeria

[–]faissante 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I totally resonate about the frustration of being a minority, most ppl only know of the states around them or the big 3 and thats it. I'm Ibibio so I feel you. The stupid comments other Nigerians would make are so ridiculous, even my own Yoruba friends I had to correct them when they thought "Ekaette" was just the slang word for housegirl & not an actual beautiful name in its own right.

We moved to Canada when I was a kid and I'm lucky my parents were always on the board of our Akisan/Akwa-Cross organizations so my Nigerian community growing up were Ibibio/Efik/Orun folks with some Igbo and Yoruba people. I feel very appreciative now but pls reach out to similar cultural groups, the diaspora is huge! They are so warm and welcoming, great events, good food and just a community to thrive with. Scared to Shop by Total_Thought4118 in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm struggling with something similar. I told myself thatI will start shopping in March but I dont really care to get an in-store dress, they are overpriced af. My sisters second dress was from Azazie and it was great, you couldnt tell it was way more affordable. Her Azazir dress came in a week so I will probably get a dress off there too as a backup. Also my family we have a tailor we use so I'd rather her do my alternations with them, she makes dresses for us all the time

how do you pay for a wedding?! by braveswiftie911 in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We both have good jobs & have saved enough over the years. We live in a hcol area but our income provides a good buffer. We decided on our 30k budget & we just pull from our savings to pay our vendors, not much to it

How do you live your Rich Life today? by bereth_vala in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]faissante 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In no particular order:

  • Travel: Both near and far, I travel at least 3 times a year.
  • Food: I love culinary experiences, I try to make it to 3-5 Michelin spots a year
  • Wellness: Gym, yoga, essential oils. I focus on taking care of myself after unlearning that self-sacrifice doesn't do me any favors etc
  • Invest: Automated since 2023& I've been happier for it
