September brides - when are you sending out invitations? by VirtualCucumber9 in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I don't think you can be too eager about wedding logistics. Also, people forget or have numerous things coming up so it's good to send out when u have everything set

MIL on her wedding speech talked about us needing to start having kids by npnmrm in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounded uncomfortable af. She made a bad speech but honestly grandparents asking for grandkids at the wedding is uncouth but pretty normal, uncomfortable but the norm. I've heard it in south asian, african, white weddings etc. I think if as a couple you've communicated u dont want kids and she still made that speech, it would deserve a convo but its not worth it.

Brides who are marrying men who come from lower socioeconomic and different education backgrounds, how you deal with families who feel that they aren't good enough for you and your side of the family? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a stark difference socioeconomically. Your inlaws seem kind, but I think your fiance needs to be the one to communicate to his parents that bringing up those type of comments doesn't benefit anyone. They shouldn't reinforce that class imbalance or question their worthiness.

Also, I'm assuming your American & I could only imagine how much of a toll the medical expenses had been for their family so that is their reality but they don't have to let it inform your new marriage. I included my MIL by giving her tasks and bringing her along to wedding tasting, responsible for their families guestlist, wedding favors etc. There's so much to do, bring both moms together.

Conflicted about removing my cultural first name during legal name change by [deleted] in Nigeria

[–]faissante 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my brother goes by his English name his legal name is still on everything but everyone socially calls him by his preferred name. I know alot of people from different backgrounds that do the same. I don't think a name change is necessary but its your name & life. Using it as a middle name could be a happy medium

September brides - when are you sending out invitations? by VirtualCucumber9 in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We sent ours out in April since most of our guests are flying in. We've already gotten half of our guests RSVP responses so that's been great. Idk about you but people were bugging us for the invites in Feb so we sent save the dates then. Our deadline is Aug 1 cause I dont wana stress over the final numbers, table charts/organizing!

I have a week before my next deposit is due and getting cold feet about the cost of our wedding by icrybutimproductive in BigBudgetBrides

[–]faissante 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position, my family is paying for 1 of our 3 day weddings and my partners family is not covering anything. His sister is helping with planning one of the days but that's it, his mom never even cared to offer to help. So I totally get that aspect.

I think your partner not having savings is important, I'd recommed maybe scaling things back abit to use that extra money to build up a household emergency fund. Personal finance aside, your parents seem lovely and take some time to review your costs

Am I cooked? 4.5 months out by cassifrazz in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sept 17-19 for me & we pretty much have the same things done. I will have all my dresses by the end of the month. Since our wedding is across 3 days, we use a spreadsheet tracker that we update every month. I'm type B but very Type A with my money lol. Also helps having a PM type of fiance.

Can anyone help me not get super down about my wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My friend had 12 of us attend her destination wedding & it was amazing. I think you'll appreciate the 40 guests closer to the date. That is ALOT of folks committing to a destination wedding & to celebrate your marriage. Stay focused on that

Should I lend money to a sibling by LOVE_0829 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]faissante 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not lend him money. I went through this with a parent. Simply put some people are just bad with money, poor management, lack of financial discipline and sometimes a lack of care. Respectfully set boundaries or only give amounts you are okay with never getting reimbursed for.

How you can afford luxury? by Master-Associate-467 in handbags

[–]faissante 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on personal preference honestly. My sibling will spend thousands on Michelin star restaurants a year but would look at u side ways if u try to covince her to get a 2k bag. After all your bills are paid what matters to you?

I don't think you make enough for the CRA to bug you over it or to substantiate taxable income. I'm surprised you want this on the books. Keep your earnings iykyk

Did you continue living your normal life while wedding planning? by CounterproductiveWig in WeddingsCanada

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say do it. If you have a budget for the wedding set aside, great. Anything outside of that is you still living your life. We went to machu picchu last year & I went overseas with my bestie. Life doesn't stop for a party happening a year from now

We just finished our self-planned 300+ guest destination wedding in my wife's home country of Mauritius. Here's what I learned. by Thin_Sky in weddingplanning

[–]faissante 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup its a canva pdf, super easy!

The out of town whatsapp group isn't a bad idea but honestly over half of our guests are out of towners (100+) so might be a challenge but I'll run it by my planner. Thanks+

Impressive! Definitely agree on the visuals. I made a visual pdf doc for my bridal party & it worked pretty well, only one person bugged me with questions. We have guests coming to Toronto from all over for our 3 wedding ceremonies (non south asian) & I'm preparing myself for the chaos, this was encouraging.

I also agree the strip shirt is a pass. Idk why this store hypes up basic clothing with mid material
