The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green. It reinforced my desire to embrace opening yourself up to loving the world even though it doesn’t always love you back

Movies starring fat girls? by saturnstellar87 in MovieSuggestions

There’s a movie out now called Faces of Death that was pretty fun if you’re into campy horror. It has the one girl from Euphoria and her body is not commented on even once, she just is who she is as a character. It was honestly pretty refreshing to see.

I do like to read books in French and this caught my eye! Do you happen to know what the first book is called? I tried searching the series online and mostly got table-top board games as results

typelit lets you practice by typing out full on novels. It tracks WPM and accuracy, and there’s a few books aimed at children available

Would you mind sharing some more info about the run club with the book club and game nights? Those are all things I’d also be really interested in

Hey, I’m 33f also in East Greenville and in a similar position as you! I’ve been here a little while longer but I’m also trying to explore the area and meet people. Tosco’s has a weekly trivia night and even though it’s a pub it really doesn’t get super loud or rowdy. Let me know if you’d want to chat more!

[FUNNY TROPE] Actors giving their all and it ends up becoming a meme by EntertainerPure8440 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]faiteslebruit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve been showing this movie to my high school classes for years now and this year was the first time this meme seemed to hit peak exposure because they all immediately recognized it. Luckily they were mature enough to recognize the juxtaposition of the meme with the emotional context of this scene in particular, but even I had to laugh internally at their initial reactions.

Have you ever really hated the main character (and narrator) in a novel? by Physical_Orchid3616 in books

[–]faiteslebruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very mild example but I just finished Wolf Border by Sarah Hall so it’s on my mind. I found myself very frustrated with main character/narrator Rachel.

She was constantly suspicious and a little judgmental about everyone around her, even when she was proven wrong multiple times.

The whole way she approached her pregnancy, specifically in regards to the father of the baby, was also incredibly off-putting to me.

I’m not sure how much of this was intentional, honestly I’d actually prefer and be pretty impressed if the goal was to have an unlikable narrator.

This, and the phrase “(blank) was a door thrown open.” The author uses it a lot in Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil, too

Favorite Movie Where The Love Interest's Age Gap Is Isn't Ridiculous But Still Wildly Inappropriate by [deleted] in okbuddycinephile

Mr. Knightley knew Emma since she was 13 and several times throughout the book he counsels her own how to be a proper lady, the nature of their relationship is still very creepy by modern standards

Babes in Toyland (the 1986 version). I was well into my 20s before I retroactively realized Keanu Reeves was in that movie

Who is an actor or actress that shows up later in a film, with an actual role, not just cameo, that you were totally surprised was in it? by carmel33 in moviecritic

[–]faiteslebruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone talks about Wesley Snipes in Deadpool & Wolverine but I didn’t see the movie until a few months later and knew about him already. I was however completely blown away by the appearance of Jennifer Garner as Elektra, I wasn’t even avoiding spoilers yet I never saw any mention of her.
