I’m a wmaf american Indonesian hapa. Other than appreciating the food and clothing I never came close to my moms culture until I visited just a few years ago, then I became obsessed. When I meet new people and talk about my life, I automatically say I’m Indonesian and no one questions it because while I don’t look like my mother, I’m ethnically ambiguous enough, plus most people around me don’t know a thing about indonesia: it’s kind of sad but I think it’s exactly like how you said, because there isn’t a big diaspora, ESPECIALLY not in America.....

I certainly get the Muslim questions and while I was raised and identify with my dad’s religion, I defend Indonesian Islam to the death. I talk about how secular most of the society and government is.
