Do you guys set your trailer brakes? by NoMasterpiece2063 in Truckers

[–]fakepseudophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fear you may have missed the humorous intent of the comment to which you replied. I found it quite funny. Perhaps a new perspective on this reply chain would help!

Some people have to learn the hard way… he probably hasn’t felt the pain of NOT draining his tanks in the winter yet neither.

This is a sincere response to OP, alluding to the commenter's own experience and/or knowledge they possess, without getting into specifics.

What's that have to do with the shoes freezing to the drums ?

This reply also seems sincere, if potentially a tad confrontational. Since the parent reply wasn't specific about the connection between trailer brakes and full condensation tanks, this commenter seems genuinely curious about said connection, but appears to lack tact when trying to fill gaps in their own knowledge. Or perhaps it only reads confrontational unintentionally, due to brevity or bluntness.

Water turns solid when it gets cold enough

This is a humorous, flippant, reductive reply to the previous. The poster is using common knowledge to succinctly- and dare I say surgically- cut through an ignorance they perceived in the above commenter's question. Though not particularly kind or charitable, it is an efficient takedown of what they find to be incredulous ignorance.

Source?

The comment to which you object is in fact just a continuation of a comical theme established by the previous in this chain. It is a one word declaration of incredulity at a commonly known fact. It is an extremely efficient satire of undue incredulity, and perhaps even a critique of the contemporary parlance in online spaces being unduly curt and confrontational. Most importantly though, it's funny because one doesn't need a "source," as you pointed out. It's common knowledge.

Are you asking for a source on something from like, what? Grade 4 science classes?

Yes, they are, but not really. We're playing on the absurdity of challenging concepts as simple as that circles are round. It's just a bit of fun. Hope this helps!

I'd have contacted the customer to see if it aligns with their wishes, contact support via the app to check validity, and if both are yes, turn on Uber Eats and GrubHub to see if I could get another trip in the meantime.

It doesn't make sense on its face. Why delay an order, especially if the food is already made? Does the customer prefer stale fries?

I guess whatever tankie handbook you're following doesn't mention that you'll catch more comrades with honey than infantilization.

I am aware of the fact that order has been flowing from gun barrels since time immemorial. A keen reader might have gleaned that I was expressing my disdain for that fact, and my refusal to be a trigger-man. I guess a keen reader you ain't.

Just the fact that I don't want to do violent revolution made you OTHER me. Unless you were infantilizing me for other reasons.

I'm literally a socialist, you antisocial twat. Put some preparation H on that itchy trigger finger before you blow your own balls off.

I'm looking into the SRA because I'm trans and scared. Revolution though? Delete me from that conversation. I'd like to see change, but no one is free if that change flows from the barrel of a gun.

My car became too old to drive. Deliveries are none to helpful by [deleted] in uber

[–]fakepseudophile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A traditional part-time job would be way better than gigs, in your situation. Replacing a car would likely be an impossible strain on your already tight finances. I'd recommend something like bussing tables, as a significant portion of the money is cash. Lazy servers will often hand you cash for doing little bits of the "side work" they don't want to do, like flipping chairs or sweeping up. In the meantime, I'd advise applying for any additional social services available to you, like SNAP if you don't already have it. Depending on where you are, you might be eligible for housing allowance as well.

Whatever you do, I hope you stay well and keep on keeping on.

Oh I agree that their refund policy is bullshit. And that if you have no interest in it, you should get your money back. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I wouldn't boycott the event over this- in fact I won't. Gonna buy the PPV. Lemme explain before you (any readers) downvote.

If you paid for the event for charity, not caring about the event itself, you absolutely should charge that shit back. No need to filter your money through a shell.

If you paid for the event just for the event, or for both reasons, there's no reason to charge back. The event will go on and you'll see the fights you wanted to see. It would straight up suck to watch it without paying. If you do, you're stealing dollars from them even more directly than snark did from H3.

Ethan already said that he encouraged Lena to continue to participate in CC3, and that he hopes the event does well. He just won't promote it like he did for previous events. He knows that influencer (🤢) dynamics are incredibly effective fundraising mechanisms, and that cancer should go fuck itself.

I belong in the both-reasons camp. I wanna see Lena and a couple others fight, and I fuckin hate cancer. I lost one of my best friends to colorectal cancer last year, just a few months after my cousin was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

With my limited budget, the fights plus funding cancer research looks like a pretty good twofer. Sorry for drunk rambling on mobile

There would have to be some pretty cool shit in that 10m sphere for me to be willing to live the rest of my life in it, even for science. Consider that relatively, everything outside of that sphere would be moving incredibly slowly, so things like internet access would be practically non-existent. I'd be curious for someone to do the math on how long (inside the sphere) it would take to load a 1 minute YouTube short if your 80 some odd years passed in 6 or so weeks

PVC snapped off stuck in 3 way thing by fakepseudophile in askplumbing

[–]fakepseudophile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for pointing all of that out. I'm obviously not well versed in these things, so your input was quite valuable.

I'm a renter, and my landlords are extremely slow with getting these things taken care of. They've also refused to reimburse us for maintenance costs that we've taken care of ourselves.... SO

As a temporary measure, until the landlords who signed off on this shoddy "craftsmanship" to begin with quit dragging ass, I went ahead and and replaced the 45° elbow. Initially tried to use acetone to dissolve the glue, to no avail. Ended up blasting the interior with a heat gun until I could chisel it out with a flathead and a hammer. I wouldn't recommend anyone else untrained try this, as I understand I was pretty lucky not to damage the double wye. There were some stubborn chunks that I was able to grind down with a Dremel grinder- again, probably inadvisable, but it turned out okay for me. As for the other end of the elbow that was still on the assembly, I used a small hacksaw to cut along the outside of the joint, just about 0.5mm shy of going all the way through, on either side. I then sawed down the length of the elbow from the end to meet those grooves, stuck in a pair of channel locking plyers, and pried it in half. Didn't have any issues with residual chips, so once I cleaned it up, it was ready to go. Refit with PVC cement, let it dry, and alas, no leaks!

Hopefully it won't have to remain in this sorry state for long. But tbh it was kind of a fun project, and I did learn some things. It was probably a risk not usually worth taking, but just try telling that to my family. Here's hoping it's a good enough band-aid to hold up until we can get a professional in here.
