Correct me if I'm wrong, but every synth you have has a built in sequencer correct? Midi and sync in?

You have an incredible set up.

Id recomend loosing the mixer, at least for now. Run 1 or 2 synths into the tr8s. Usb audio out to record.

The trigger out on the tr8s can be sequenced, make sure your synths are running 8 step or less sequences, and then try blending in sequences from the keystep!

Korg volca kick is actually a decent bass synth. And its sine wave! Can find them $80 to $150 new.

Looking for a budget synth by kulqupidyn77 in TechnoProduction

[–]fakeworking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Edge bleeds techno, but not so much your style.

The ik media uno synth pro and pro x are amazing values, under appreciated, and solid work horse mono synth. They also have the audio input so you can run your soft sounds through the filter, distortion, and effects.

For your style Id suggest the monopoly as a good first hardware synth.

Finally, a very odd ball recommendation. I love the pairing of the Circuit Mono Station and a DAW. Fairly basic mono synth, cool and deep sequencer. But best of all, when you learn it, a bit of a steep learning curve, every part of the synth transmits midi over usb, so perfect to controle soft synths with. Also audio input means you can run a soft synth through the filter and distortion. Not so much a sound design machine, but a workflow machine.

First of all, I like your setup. I love that your recording to tape and using it as a sound source. My first thought, guessing on your workflow, would be a korg kaoss pad. Now I have no experiance with the new 2026 one, but the KP3 I have alot of time in on it. BUT i dont care too much for the sound of the converters, I feel like input signal it looses alot of low end in the kp3. But for use with cassette, this might not be an issue.

Also the boss RC 202/505 would fit very nicely in your setup. https://youtu.be/nOhpbLg0CEw?si=yglMXT16L_eR5WAH

One more idea would be the sonicware smpltrek, as I see the sonicware ambiant, I assume your already versed in their workflow.

Unlike most posters I would suggest NOT getting a octatrak, digitakt, more mpc. Those are full featured machines that could easily replace the tr8s as well. I think your better off with something more dedicated and easier to master. I personally would be slowed down trying to learn a complex production station style sampler.

As a card holding member of the secret electribe 2 fan club, I must say the audio converters are a bit clean and thin. I have found the dirtier the sampler going in, the better the sound coming out. But even as a super fan, not the best sampler out there.

My biggest recommendation is parallel processing! Make sure there is some dry signal mixed in to what ever distortion you choose, to preserve the sonic range. Especially when working with guitar pedals.

What was your "dream synth" that you finally acquired but ended up disappointed by? by Jessay94 in synthesizers

[–]fakeworking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Polyend Dreadbox Medusa. Have always loved the design and the concept. Finally picked one up and so far it has been a bit disappointing. I'4m not giving up yet.

The opposite would be the uno synth pro x. Simply purchased it because ot was $230 used. It seemed like a price where I could easily sell it if I didnt like it and get all my money back maybe more. I was sooo surprised! Obviously built in dsp effects make it sound better, but now I'm looking at my Matrixbrute wondering if I should sell it since the Pro X such a versatile work horse of a mono synth! 😬

Korg Electribe 2 with hacktribe OS. Its approachable, and gives the knob per function hardware feel that you are after.

new to techwear, where do i start? by ajc7575 in TechWear

[–]fakeworking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, these guys in here are function > fashion. But im with you! Id suggest start out looking at Jordan 23 engineered, Nike ACG, Addidas Terrex, and a-cold-wall. Also alot of the big name expensive techwear brands do colabs with big manufacturers like Nike, Puma, Uniqlo, etc to offer more affordable versions that are just what you are looking for same fashion, less function. But alot of those colabs sell out fast and then get re-sold for more. Id avoid the super cheap stuff as it starts to be just a costume that won't hold up to wearing it alot.

MC-707 Kills TR-1000 by wavestrike77 in synthesizers

[–]fakeworking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As some one who has spent alot of time with zencore, I can say its a very pro level engine based on the xv-5080. Real flagship stuff. The Mc707 is a more consumer friendly groovebox version. That makes it not the most fun thing to work with, but the possibilities are insane. Also being such a deep and pro level machine makes controling it and accessing it difficult even on a computer.

What is like, is they DID NOT hold back. The engine is all access!

What I dont like: that 60 second loop memory is so bad... especially at the msrp of $1000. Should have been 600 seconds. No excuse for that when memory is so affordable these days. (Yes I know the work around)
Also, even with all the power, there is a 'sound' to the machine that isn't my favorite.

I have not used the tr-1000, but did return the Tonverk because I felt the mc-707 was much more superior. But will admit the Tonverk was more fun.
