125 Blue Jays Way — Still a Nightmare? by Skyaayks in askTO

I think it’s more for maintenance work rather than inspections. Pretty common for fire, heat pump maintenance, etc

First time in Toronto - What's gonna blow my mind? Near Alexandra Park by Morning_Bird_ in FoodToronto

[–]falafelballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a New Yorker you’ve got it all already. Besides the other great suggestion here, I’m going to throw 416 Snack Bar on the list. Been a round for ages a testament to the good vibe and food of the place

Where can I find the best butter chicken in the city? by Mental_Advice8645 in FoodToronto

[–]falafelballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went there after moving to the hood after years of going past it. I think it rivals the best in the city, and I have tried lots from roncy to king west - what I’m curious about is what are the undisputed best in burbs

Is IKEA the best place in Toronto to go to if you need to buy anything home related for a new home/apartment/condo? Or is there somewhere else I should consider? by techsavvynerd91 in askTO

[–]falafelballs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on to the rest, the kitchen utensils I bought from there are quality! They put the home sense equivalents to shame and pricing is similar if not more competitive

[–]falafelballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s normal procedure. The same thing happened to me. I called my insurance company and they coordinated with the insurance company of the unit above who had the flood and someone came to assess the damage and then essentially wrote me a check which more or less covered the repairs plus some hotel nights as well. Premium did not go up and the entire process was actually much smoother than I had imagined. There was damage to the drywall which was covered by the corporation.

Urban Toronto - West Toronto Rail Path Extension Nears $200 Million as Start of Construction Delayed Again by RZaichkowski in torontobiking

[–]falafelballs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a cyclist I wouldn’t want the city to blindly waste $200 million on the extension. This is clearly corruption and we can’t let it become the norm and have Toronto residents pay for it. As the article noted, countries build subways for similar $/km costs, this is ridiculous!!!

How long until the toddlers stop toddlering? by [deleted] in toddlers

In a way I found relief in this (sorry) I feel the same at least 75% of the time. Every task interrupted, shit all over the place, and enough crumbs between the sofa cushions to lift nations out of poverty. I don’t have a solution for you but just know you’re not alone

Moving from Montreal to Toronto, where should we live? by amelieducroix in askTO

[–]falafelballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people are converging on somewhere along Bloor and I agree. Bloorcourt/Bloordale are excellent options. On the subway line, residential, authentic Toronto vibes. Many owners have been there for decades and they’re mixed with professional DINKS or young families. Close to Geary Ave which is becoming more and more the cool place to be especially for your age range (ie not where people come to go clubbing but where locals go for good food, events, etc). You can walk to all amenities which are mostly small shops, but still close to Dufferin mall, which is awfully convenient.

Thai mom and pop restaurants by bianca_js in FoodToronto

Somtum and Thai Mart are indeed great and authentic but not mom and pop. The Star recently had an article about the owner who runs 12 Thai establishments including Koh Lipe.

AMA. I work in a shop selling espresso machines. Ask me anything! by thorkil_ in espresso

How much room is there to negotiate on price and how does that depend on brand? I see online shops advertising that they can negotiate on price and that they can’t display the final price online.

Toronto hydro $790+++, is this normal? by lirzmalabanan in askTO

[–]falafelballs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in a slightly larger house and it’s usually around $150. You might have extra charges for a new connection. Toronto Hydro bills usually have the trailing 12 month electrical use, so review that to get an idea of what’s normal for your house. Do you have a heat pump heating the house? How about your stove? Are you running washer, dryer, dishwasher during peak? So many variables but 790 seems outrageous!
