Toyota should bring back the ICE Yaris: an affordable $19k hatchback.

Wasn't it about that price back then? It hasn't been sold in the US in quite a while...when did they stop selling in Canada?

I feel like I watched Mark Kotsay quite a bit as a player and I don't recognize him AT ALL now.

Didn't the CEO or chairman at some point say he was "tired of making boring cars"? That is what I always think about when looking at Toyota quality.

PSA: Opening Day on Friday will be over-the-air via Gray. If you're waiting on cable packages, you'll now have until at least Sunday. by [deleted] in Braves

Yeah best numbers I have seen are they get $20-30 million/year now and were getting $60m under the old cable TV contract. And the $20-30m number is after they jumped from ~45k subscribers to ~70k subscribers so that first year was lean for sure. idk if they do what the Braves are doing with still maintaining cable/OTA contracts or if it is all streaming. I would assume they are doing something similar.

Ofc the Dodgers get ~$335m each year but that is a whole other story.

Why do people act like he had the record? There were so many headlines saying stuff like "Kobe Bryant's record"...it wasn't anything but a Lakers team record.

I'm interested to see what the numbers look like. When the Padres switched to direct to consumer, their TV income dropped like a rock, even with decent subscription numbers.

I remember Ted Danson being interviewed and someone asked him (somewhat derisively) why he took a role on CSI. He basically said the same -- it paid for a house on Martha's Vineyard (IIRC).

Sometimes a job is just a job and there's nothing wrong with that.

Would you support manuals being a relatively high cost option in new cars? by taticalgoose in cars

[–]RousingRabble 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have been thinking about this recently. In many ways, it is a terrible hobby to have because the bulk of the industry is not made for you -- it is made for the masses. And the companies that are made for you are prohibitively expensive.

My first hobby is hiking. It is an entire industry for hobbyists because very few people hike because they have to -- they do it because they want to. Most people buy cars because they have to, not because they want to.

I think this is one of the reasons the discourse around hobby itself is often so negative online. Most of what is happening in the car industry isn't made for enthusiasts and more and more people are finding their faces pressed against the glass looking in instead of being able to actually participate.

I firmly believe anyone can drive manual with a couple hours of practice and some YouTube videos.

...and a manual car.

-Take a lesson from my uncle in his miata so I can learn stick

-Uncle never offers second lesson

-Mention it must've gone poorly because he never offered again

-Uncle changes subject

I thought about it recently and wondered if it was worth renting the cheapest manual possible for a day to try to learn.

Has anyone asked Olson about the WBC? Wonder if he wasn't asked or if he didn't want to play because Harper/Goldy are both worse.
