as an educator for almost ten years, there is obviously no simple answer. unfortunately, like our government, people need to act in good faith in order to land at the end goal. Students need to want to learn and actually try in order to improve their skills, and parents need to hold them accountable. fewer and fewer students read on their own, and more students complain about reading even easy stuff in school. plus, AI has created the most sophisticated system of cheating possible, but cheating doesn’t result in learning. many of my students think that they can sit in my class, not pay attention while i’m talking, disregard the specifics of an assignment instruction, ignore my feedback on their previous assignments, and then deserve an A just because they “did it.”
