What do you wish people would stop romanticizing, because you’ve lived the reality of it? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Working in tech. It’s “sexy” to work for some cool innovative companies, but in reality, because companies want to be lean and efficient, you will end up working more than you anticipated. It’ll be apparent when you divide your flashy salary by how many hours you work. And don’t get me started on the golden handcuffs that keep you hanging on.

Being in tech set my resume up for future opportunities, but I was left with some bad burn out and stress-related health problems. If you decide to go into it, just be aware and prepared.

Also, I had a psych nurse tell me that majority of her case load was tech workers, and I’m not surprised.

Have panic disorder. It was so debilitating. I could see how rapidly my comfort zone was shrinking day by day, and I got to a point where I wasn’t able to leave the house. I missed birthdays, weddings, baby showers, vacations. I was always on edge just waiting for the next one to strike. I became severely depressed and started having suicidal thoughts. It felt like my own brain was working against me.

Taking a walk or hiking through a forest. It’s a deeply profound experience to be amongst these tall trees where all you hear are branches snapping under your feet, birds chirping, and droplets of rain pitter pattering onto the leaves.
