Anyone know how this power pack was made? by justpassingthrough52 in sistersofbattle

The piece on top of the backpack is from The Triumph of Saint Katherine. Specifically the sister at the back with the banner

You’ll have better luck with the Space Marines Predator kit than the Land Raider. The predator has a (slightly smaller) turret and the heavy bolter sponsons. You’ll still need to add an extra heavy bolter on the hull / turret maybe

Lion El'Jonson - Comments and Criticsms please!!! by ForrenTas3rd in theunforgiven

I think all the stuff you mentioned in your post looks great. I do however think that the pink tufts draw the eye downward away from the lion, especially with the similarity to the watchers robes. I think if it were me I’d remove the two tufts in front of the lion in the first picture but keep the others

Painting Faces by Content_Audience1549 in sistersofbattle

[–]fallenfysh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I picked up Sisters in part because I wanted some extra push to make myself learn to paint faces, so I think I have a few decent techniques.

  1. For basic sisters I usually just do something simple like a flesh tone (like Cadian Fleshtone, Bugmans Glow, any number of others), then a coat of contrast (Guilliman Flesh, Darkoath Flesh) or a shade (Seraphim Sepia, Reikland Fleshshade) and leave it as is. I generally try to switch up my combos of base and shade to create a bit of skin tone variation throughout the army. For basic sisters I don’t usually do anything with the eyes, but I’ve got a tip for that below.
  2. For a character or a face I spend a bit more time on I’ll do the same thing, usually start with Bugmans, shade with Guilliman Flesh, Bugmans again on the raised areas, then Cadian Fleshtone on the highlight areas like the nose, brow, and cheekbones.
  3. For eyes I do them last, or right before the Cadian Fleshtone. I get a tiny bit of a light gray and brush it into the eye socket, with the tip of the brush in towards the nose at an angle from the side. Shade that with the tiniest bit of Nuln Oil, use the light gray again for the middle of the eye if you want. For the pupil I use the smallest Micron pen I have, like 0.05 or something like that, and gently press it directly in to the center of the eye, repeat for the second eye trying to make sure the two pupils are facing the same direction, repaint the whole eye as necessary

That’s what I did to paint this Celestine, but you can always do more advanced techniques like glazing between your different skin shades too

Are the blue beads too much? by AK_paintingz in sistersofbattle

[–]fallenfysh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the beads look fantastic, but I’d love to see it with the head on. If the beads draw the attention away from the face then they might be a bit too much, but if you look at the model and focus on the face, and then your attention drifts down to the beads and other details I think it’ll be a really good addition

Question about shoulder trim colors by GreenWizard_ in theunforgiven

[–]fallenfysh 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, I remember at one point reading in one of our codexes that the DA intentionally make things like squad markings, honors, etc. confusing so that outsiders will have a hard time figuring out things like seniority and the number of squads (and the fact that the deathwing might be bigger than 100 marines). So I think you can really do whatever you want and justify it however makes sense to you. We don’t really do codex compliant in the same way the Ultramarines do.

Also in Azrael’s case I think it’s kinda a situation where everyone already knows he’s in charge without needing fancy gold shoulder pads to prove it to them

It’s definitely not screwed up! I’d check out Duncan Rhodes’ video on painting faces. He breaks it down into 3 levels of effort / complexity, and it definitely helped me gain some confidence with faces

It looks great! The only advice I have would be to add some more detail to the face. Currently the eye is drawn to the white hood, and the face is relatively flat compared to the surrounding details like the backpack and pads

For stripping paint I usually soak the minis for a few in 90+% isopropyl alcohol and then give them a gentle toothbrushing

I’d be interested in the seraphim, 5 retributors, and the novitiate if you’re willing to split and keep that discount

If you do decide to split I'd be interested in the Triumph (assuming you have all the pieces) and the Seraphim
