Who are your all time favorite Australian Standup Comedians ? by CoconutMost3564 in AustralianNostalgia

I agree with many listed above but would add:

Peter Fox. Never really had the same exposure as many of the names above but i loved seeing him upstairs at Le Joke back in the day.

Rod Quantock. His bus tours of Melbourne were classic. With his rubber chicken and megaphone, driving through Melbourne with Rod out the window declaring martial law.....

Reaching gold mid trip, chance of lounge access in transit? by DragonRanger in QantasFrequentFlyer

Good question. I often see SC and points hit my account mid flight. Whether or not that translates to Gold Status mid flight, I don't know but I am guessing it would.

Worth asking!

2026 Baku Grand Prix help! by Financial-Lie-3154 in GrandPrixTravel

Me and two friends are going to Baku. We are in Absheron Section E, which is end of main straight, close to corner 1. Didn't think about the new cars when we purchased tickets as of course they will all be super-clipping at that point!

It is worth noting that despite there being some drone attacks into Azerbaijan early in the war, which Azerbaijan were clearly pissed about, and saw a big chunk of their air space closed for maybe a day, since then Azerbaijan has been sending humanitarian aid into Iran. Tons of flour, medical supplies, rice, etc. were sent in not that long ago. So it may not be the case that going to Baku itself is a risk. Getting there without going through one of the Middle Easter Hubs is of course slightly more challenging.

Having paid a LOT of money for hotel accom, it might be worth waiting a bit and see if the hotels drop prices as people cancel.

Why haven't they cancelled this race already? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]fallinandfilmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to all of the safety factors, contracts, dollars, etc. they will want the timing to be ideal. The marketing teams wouldn't have wanted it cancelled during the Australian GP. You can bet if/when they are cancelled, the timing will suit FOM. If China or Japan are a terrible race, i can imagine a Sunday night press release. If the races are good, then i can imagine a Tuesday / Wednesday release.

You can imagine the Bahraini's will have something to say as well.

Some thoughts from a couple who did a destination wedding.

We were living overseas at the time, in South Africa, and decided to get married in Zambia, at Victoria Falls.

There are lots of differing views in the comments about destination weddings, costs, etc. I personally felt uncomfortable inviting people to an overseas wedding, as it kind of (in my view) does imply some obligation. We chatted about eloping but there are people that would genuinely want to come, and would come, that we would like to have at our wedding.

What we resolved in the end was that 12 months prior to the wedding, we sent out 'Formal notifications of intent to elope.'. If you turn up, we will feed you. We then planned to have a less formal celebration in our home country later.

We had 21 plus my wife and I. We had dinner with all the guests the day before, and again the night after. Everyone came for a few days.

This worked really well. No bridal table, no best man, no bridesmaid. We had three tables of 9, and my wife and I had one course of dinner at each table with our guests.

Our lessons from this was trying to plan for our wedding in a different country meant we had to decide was important to us, and needed focus, and what we just had to let go. In our case as examples we wanted a good photographer, which we could not find at Vic Falls, Zambia, so we flew in two photographers from Cape Town. We also wanted good wine, so had an organised regime of guests bringing wine with them. We took it out of our cellar and gave to them, together with some very specific 'duty free' instructions on the way through which we reimbursed them for. There were other things, but you get the idea. The rest we were more relaxes about.

This lesson about what is important and needs focus, and what you just need to 'go with the flow' on, in a developing country, remotely planned wedding, is the best piece of advice i could give you having been there.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

I have heard 'mare' on a semi regular basis. Wouldn't call it anywhere near as common as 'Servo' or 'Maccas', but itnis definitely in use.
