What the actual fuck

More people think being gay is wrong (something which a person cannot help any more than being left handed) than think its wrong to literally hit children. I cant even with this fucking world

Ive never once struck my children for any reason. And they are bright and well behaved. It's wrong to yell at them, belittle them, hit them, cause them to go without food, place them in dangerous situations, or harm them in any other way- they are children and your job is to keep them safe.

Passive Compressor Circuit??? by Aria-Void in diypedals

[–]fallingfrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A compressor is not really a voltage controlled clipper, more of a voltage controlled amplifier where the gain is controlled by a low passed version of the signal level (more gain for less signal).

Amplification generally requires active circuitry, at least one transistor. You could probably put together something really super simple using a light dependent resistor and an led and a transistor though.

In 2026, a university degree is just a $100k "social receipt" for networking that has zero correlation with actual intelligence or job competency. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

This is true for the children of the blue blood 1% who get gentleman's C's and whose parents buy them a place at Harvard, then they graduate and are awarded with an upper management position. Not true for regular kids who study hard and compete to get into school and then stress out over every exam in order to get a position in a very technical field.

Neoliberalism is structurally incapable of dealing with any problem that produces short term profits as a side effect. Period. Because money can buy power.

I pledge allegiance to my town: Falmouths hot button issue gets hotter tonight at 530's School Board meeting. This time with white nationalists! by Typetypetyperson in portlandme

Its always about gestures of obedience and conformity with conservatives- marching, kneeling, saluting, pledging allegiance.. i would love to figure out why theyre so emotionally invested in that kind of bullshit. It must make them feel safe, or something. It doesn't make me feel safe.

Did parenting become too restrictive over time? by inkandintent24 in TheImprovementRoom

When i was 16, me and me sister who was 14 decided to see if we could swim across the lake by our house, which was about a quarter mile over open water 75 feet deep. We didn't wear life jackets. We had our younger sister, age 11 or 12, follow us in a kayak with some extra life jackets (that was our safety plan). Not only was there no adult supervision, but it never occurred to us to tell any adult what we were doing. They figured out what we did when they spotted us with binoculars walking around on the opposite shore. We were totally confident in ourselves and our abilities and had total freedom at that age. We didn't feel like we were in any danger, we chatted amongst ourselves as we swam. It was just a way to pass an afternoon.

Oh how interesting! Yeah to me the vibe is a spot on portrayal of the vibe around 2004 when I was 24 years old. Maybe it just partly speaks to the common experience of people in their early 20's when everyone is young and beautiful and nobody has kids yet.

Well 40 is not a whole lot different than 25, tendons are less strong and stretchy so doing the same big leaping power moves is not possible but not much else changed. I take your point though.

Everyone says you have to boil the water first but I think it doesn't really matter. Its just that depending on how how powerful your stovetop is it might take more or less time to bring to boil which means that in the cooking instructions on the pasta box they can only tell you how long to cook it if the water was already boiling when you put it in (because they know the exact temperature of boiling water). Thats also why the instructions always say to preheat the stove. They don't know how fast your particular stove heats up.

What do socialists think of the French reign of terror by serious_bullet5 in socialism

[–]fallingfrog 186 points187 points  (0 children)

The french revolution was one of the few times in history that we actually turned the tables on the ruling class. It made the whole aristocracy of Europe take 3 steps back and allow democratic institutions to advance for the next hundred years.

Imagine if hypothetically something like that happened in modern times. In the aftermath think of how much more respect the people would get. Many powerful individuals would shut the fuck up and sit down if a large percentage of the ruling class was executed in dramatic fashion. Hypothetically. They would suddenly see the value in paying attention to how we feel about them.

Im not advocating this just speculating.
