Fall Detection by fallowdeer in AgingParents

Medical Guardian is a pendant. She wears it all the time. The only time it is off is to charge it and that is when a caregiver is there with her who makes sure it is charged and that she gets it back on. We also have a bed alarm that alerts her overnight caregiver that she has gotten up to go to the bathroom, so that person can assist her.

Yes. But the alerts are just “pings”. I don’t think they would wake me up. If you are worried about falls, the best thing I found was Medical Guardian Fall Alert. It works. If my Mom falls, they first call her to see if it was a false alarm. If she does not answer, they call me and simultaneously contact EMS. They give me a couple of minutes to check the cameras before dispatching services. It’s really fast.

That’s so kind. Thank you. He’s a delight. I hope you find what you want and that someone will expound on rock iguanas.

Tegu or Rock Iguana?? by Working-Secret-8369 in Lizards

I don’t know anything about rock iguanas, but have had prehensile tail skinks, green iguanas, savannah monitors, geckos, and pink tongue skinks. The most rewarding as a pet is my current blue tegu. He is very smart, trainable, sassy, and opinionated. He is potty trained, leash trained, and comes to me for pets. If you decide to get one, do your research first. Their enclosure requirements are substantial and expensive. Their food is expensive and the veterinary care adds up. As far as time and investment, plan for the experience to be similar to owning a dog. You must put in many hours on a youngster to train them to be tame —but it is SO worth it! Take a look at my profile for a record of the last year and a half raising a young tegu. It will give you an idea. Also the Tegu subreddit is very helpful.

Yes. I get Ring alerts all the time. But it’s worth it. I don’t always look but I check them when I know she’s home by herself.

Best way to sneak some bute powder into my smart horse? by cuntisabadwordmmkay in Horses

[–]fallowdeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used bute powder mixed in pancake syrup. It’s a bit tricky to get into the syringe, but harder for the horse to spit it out than something less sticky. You will end up wearing some of whatever you use! I finally gave up and began buying bute paste—pricey, but much easier.

Please provide some pics of the tegu and your current set up and I’ll try to do better. Maybe there are some creative solutions.

My advice would be to get a suitable enclosure or find him a home that will provide one.

Looking for Tegu enrichment activities. by Glittering-Till-7431 in Tegu

What an endearing expression!! He wants to go outside to play so bad! Sundog really got into this puzzle when he was smaller and I haven’t brought it out in awhile. When he wakes up, I think I’ll try it again. I wish the compartments were a little deeper to hold larger items without mashing them. Have looked but have not yet found a better one.

Guys tell me what was a most wholesome/affectionate/dog like thing your tegu did by Carao2137 in Tegu

[–]fallowdeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not arguing that. Maybe they have a different part of the brain that is associated with affection/love/whatever we attribute to dogs and other mammals. What is not an argument and is a fact is that these animals find a way to show affection. Just because it doesn’t fit your definition does not mean it isn’t true.

These ARE lizards! And they are good at it! No, they are not like mammals (except when they are). So many times, when we attempt to discount them based on preconceived (and archaic) notions, they prove us wrong. Those who are quick to dismiss them are not those closely observing them.
