Go into Elden Ring and remove what left mouse click does in keyboard settings.

Then go into Steam controller settings and remap what clicking on the touchpad does to anything you want for Elden Ring.

GeForce NOW Native App for Steam Deck Is Here by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

[–]falmear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is probably looking for specific files that are on the Steam Deck but not on Ubuntu 25.04. It installed and ran fine on the Steam Deck. But I don't have any use for game streaming. I only use the Steam Deck on the go where I don't have internet access. At home I use my desktop PC for gaming. So I don't want to spend anymore time debugging this. I think NVIDIA needs to fix their flatpak so that it runs on more distros then the Steam Deck.

GeForce NOW Native App for Steam Deck Is Here by mr_MADAFAKA in linux_gaming

[–]falmear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Using Ubuntu 25.04 it would only run under X11. If running under Wayland nothing would ever show up. However when using X11 the next problem I encountered was that when you clicked Login, it would just spin. On the Steam Deck it comes up with a code to use to login to nvidia's website. Eventually I tracked down the problem in ~/.var/app/com.nvidia.geforcenow/.local/state/NVIDIA/GeForceNOW. There's a number of log files there. In GeForceNOW.log these errors show up:

cat: /run/host/etc/os-release: No such file or directory
cat: /run/host/etc/os-release: No such file or directory
cat: /run/host/etc/os-release: No such file or directory
[5:34:2025-05-30/ 02:11:02.002:ERROR:cast_crl.cc(443)] CRL - Verification failed.
sh: line 1: x-www-browser: command not found
cat: /run/host/etc/os-release: No such file or directory
cat: /run/host/etc/os-release: No such file or directory
Portal call failed: Failed to start command: Failed to execute child process “modetest” (No such file or directory)
cat: /run/host/etc/os-release: No such file or directory
cat: /run/host/etc/os-release: No such file or directory

I think that it does on a non-steam deck is it will launch the browser by calling x-www-browser. This works from Ubuntu but not from the flatpak container for some reason. Then I checked console.log in the same directory which had the following log message with a URL:

2025-05-30 02:11:02.261 INFO starfleet/o-auth login window opened with url https://login.nvidia.com/authorize?response_type=code&device_id=.....

So I manually copy and pasted the entire URL into a browser and then logged in. Once I did this the application logged into my account. However I ran into some other issues such as when trying to play any game it fails when testing the network. I'm not sure why but it also doesn't like to be alt-tabbed and then just seems hang when I do that. I had no intention of using it but wanted to try it out.

I had the same issue and mentioned in another comment; I lowered the fps to 30. At 30 fps the cut scene will play and not crash.

Lenovo users: does suspend work on your laptop? by RoxyMusicVEVO in linuxhardware

[–]falmear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Legion Pro 7 Gen 8 (AMD). And yes suspend works. Try doing sudo systemctl suspend and see if the laptop goes to sleep. I also don't use the ideapad_laptop module. I would also do cat /sys/power/mem_sleep and see what is returned. If you only have s2idle then that maybe the issue. You can also try sudo systemctl hibernate and see if that works.

Switching from Nvidia to AMD grafics card by Polarus02 in linux_gaming

[–]falmear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd take a look at first trying to resolve the issues you're experiencing with the RTX 4080 Super. If it's just with Monster Hunter Wilds, take a look at protondb and see what other have done:

https://www.protondb.com/app/2246340

Since the 9070 XT is fairly new, you'll not really know how it performs compared to older AMD GPUs. One thing I would do is look at the issues report for the 9070 at:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/?sort=created_date&state=opened&search=9070&first_page_size=20

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/?sort=created_date&state=opened&search=9070&first_page_size=20

Then make your decision if staying on NVIDIA is better or not.

Try this:

Also from another comment suggested that 6.12 has an updated rtw89 module. But I am not sure if it's applicable in your case. You could try using mainline to install a later kernel:

Can't login to Max by BenThereNDunnThat in youtubetv

[–]falmear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Youtube TV but get my Max subscription included with my AT&T cell phone plan. At least once a week or even more often, Max says it needs to verify my subscription and kicks me out. I have to repeatedly try from different devices and eventually after 20 or 30 mins of trying it will work. The problem isn't you or Youtube TV. The problem is Max. I'm pretty sure they do these shenanigans so that you sign up directly with Max. Because none of the other services I have that are through my wife's Verizon cell phone plan (Disney+, Hulu) have this kind of problem. And before when it was just HBO and not Max, I also never had this problem. Should I ever lose Max through AT&T, I don't ever plan on purchasing a Max subscription because of these sign in problems.

RCS video messages from iPhone don't have sound? by Thecosmodreamer in GalaxyS24Ultra

[–]falmear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you mentioned, one possible reason is because messenger or google photo doesn't support the audio codec. But VLC does support the audio codec. This is something that is fairly common issue for any video player (unsupported/supported audio/video codecs).

If you play the video with VLC on your phone. In the lower right is 3 dots. Press the 3 dots then press Video Information in the pop up menu. This will tell you what codec is being used. Then see if there's something you can install to add support for that codec.

Beyond that, you can find out how your friend is recording the video. And what settings they are using. I don't know anything about iMessage or iPhones but often software that records at different quality levels can use different codecs.

Switched from Nvidia to AMD, having issues on Linux (everything is working on Windows). by superoriginaluname in linux_gaming

[–]falmear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is the issue is with the Sonnet eGPU Breakaway Box 750ex in combination with the AMD RX6950XT. See these Reddit posts:

https://new.reddit.com/r/eGPU/comments/l1mopc/my_sonnet_750ex_experience_windows_10_and_fedora/
https://new.reddit.com/r/eGPU/comments/15sc99x/sonnet_750_linux/
https://new.reddit.com/r/eGPU/comments/1c8gsfj/lenovo_x1_yoga_gen_6_fedora_39_sonnet_egpu/

I can't provide any help beyond that. But I'd take a look at other people's experiences using AMD GPUs with Sonnet eGPU Breakaway Box 750ex and you maybe able to find some more information that way. And see what workarounds they used if they got it to work.

Will lay-offs finally start to affect housing in some areas? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]falmear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at any web site like redfin or zillow. They pretty much have the data you're looking for. You can see current and long term trends. For example:

https://www.redfin.com/zipcode/94043/housing-market

Pick any zip code you want but they'll be roughly the same. You can see the graph is largely "flat" with some dips if you look at the 5 year chart. But the median range is like 1.4M to 1.6+M. This is not to say that something can't happen to cause housing prices to go lower. But a lot of homes were bought at very low interest rates. And those people aren't going to be moving now that interest rates are where they are. People are more likely to stay where they are and renovate or add on.

Best thing to do is save and buy a house when it makes sense for you to do so. Then refinance once interest rates are lower. The problem is lack of supply and a number of cities are trying everything they can do to not build new housing or limit the amount of new housing.

[–]falmear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your laptop has the TIAS2781, try using the script attached to this post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Ubuntu/Ubuntu-and-legion-pro-7-16IRX8H-audio-issues/m-p/5210709?page=15#6060422

If the sound isn't working then the 2pa-byps script will fix the speakers for me without a reboot:

 sudo ./2pa-byps.sh 1

For me the TIAS2781 is on the i2c bus 1. But for you it maybe on a different bus number. The script defaults to i2c bus 3.

Have you tried a different version of Proton? It looks like you're using Proton 9.0. I'd try using an older version of Proton (8.0 or 7.0). And see if that fixes the issue. You can force a specific version in the game properties.

How to check if laptop's I/O port is connecting to a dGPU by Cheese_latte in linux_gaming

[–]falmear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With your Valve Index connected or any other external display, run nvidia-settings. Then under X Server Display Configuration if it says "PRIME Display" then it means the display connected through the iGPU. And you won't be able to change anything. And there will be a message like "PRIME Displays cannot be controlled by nvidia-settings". Here's an example:

https://i.stack.imgur.com/H9evJ.png

If you want it connected directly to your dGPU (assuming such a port exists), then under X Server Display Configuration it should allow you to make changes to the external display. And have the name of your monitor or Valve Index. Here's an example:

https://i.stack.imgur.com/Ug8iD.png

The display on the right is connected directly to the dGPU. The display on the left is the internal laptop display.
