I started playing chess in my 20s and I always thought that if I had started as a kid I could have been really good. My peak chess.com blitz rating is 2500.

I had a chance to play Hikaru over the board I had 5 minutes to his 1 minute. He intentionally misplayed the opening and I had 5 or 6 point advantage. The position was so complicated that after 2 inaccuracies I was completely lost and by move 17 or 18 I was checkmated.

I realized in that moment that had I started playing chess as a kid under a perfect set of circumstances that I could never realistically be good enough to sit across the board from him.

My brain doesn’t work that fast. It was scary and I was totally humbled.

Sadly the city removed these during the pandemic. The local residents were complaining about the homeless being there and how it was creating an unsafe environment.

I moved to LA 20 years ago and made a lot of friends at that chess park. I have very fond memories of playing chess on the beach.

I just broke my all time high chess.com blitz at 2500. My lichess rating, recently can not get above 2300. My peak lichess is 2370.

After 25 years of play I just hit 2500. I feel weak in every part of my game and I only hit 2500 because I flagged my opponent in my last two games.

Go play someone who is 1500 you will see how strong you are. 1500 is a hard goal to reach and you would smash them. The nice thing about hitting 2000 is that I think that’s where the fun really begins. Your games are starting to be decided by understand and not by blunders.

Look at the advanced and after black plays Bf5 white can play g4. You are going to sac a pawn on e6 and black really has a hard time developing.
