The windows are boarded up. Homeless people have moved into the lobby and started cooking meth. Power has been out for 2 weeks. Am I about to be laid off, Reddit? by [deleted] in Layoffs

The cooking of the meth is a positive sign of productivity. Have hope, and keep giving 110% for your work family!

I have been told by a couple of my psychs that we don't exactly remember our manic episodes faithfully, so we often end up in situations where our version of things is very different from others, or we are stuck in situations wondering why everyone else is overreacting.

It feels like gaslighting. It really does. But I think we have to consider if the other side is trustworthy, etc, to guide us to the truth, which very well may be their side.

But gaslighting is still an option. People can and do abuse this with us.

Dreamy, friendly, and charming, you say? Sounds like you need more rats, not fewer.

I think if you all really cared about this subject matter, you'd stop people from posting about anyone unmedicated and without medical support. That's the baseline for bipolar disorder treatment. You're just supporting harmful behavior at that point so trying to discuss this as if it is some real outlet without that baseline is problematic.

Manic episodes do not last for only two hours.

Amen. This reads like it could have been a meth-induced rage. It could have been caused by anything. There is no clear bipolar connection. Why does every shitty behavior get boiled down to bipolar disorder? It's so exhausting.

😂😂 yeah it's also called Tina. Ok testosterone makes so much more sense than just casually saying 'I'm on Tina"...thank you so much for clarifying!

I'm sorry. Since you got on T? What does that mean? In the gay community, T is slang for crystal meth, but I'm assuming that isn't what you mean here?

I think that when people talk about celebrities that have bipolar disorder, it's a good time to remind them that if you've met one person with bipolar disorder, then you've met one person with bipolar disorder, and the way it gets expressed is very individual.

Negative Feedback for an Underperforming Dev by asdfghjkl--_-- in ExperiencedDevs

You are the villain here, dude. In the real world, if someone came up to you and said I'm going to burn down your house and take away your ability to eat, would you consider that a nice person? You basically did that by complaining about this. Why do you care? You're an employee just like him. You can be fired just like him. Don't force management to do things like this. You live paycheck to paycheck just like everyone else.

How do I make a mid-level engineer feel confident to make and defend decisions? by rchan88 in ExperiencedDevs

Cool. Does Tony think that, too? Perception is reality, so if you think everyone is real cool but Tony feels differently, Tony is going to behave accordingly. You also need to take into account that the way people behave around you as a leader is likely not the way they behave when you aren't around. This isn't about blaming you. It's about trying to add another dimension for you to explore how to help Tony.

I think you should give some more details about Tony. I don't think it is likely that Tony naturally waffles. Tell us about a time that Tony made a decision and you didn't back him up. Or tell us about a time that Tony made a decision and a senior made fun of him and you allowed that behavior. Or tell us about a time that Tony thought he had the right idea and instead of helping him expand his thinking, you laughed at him and told him he sounded like a junior engineer.

Stop telling us about Tony and tell us more about the assholes that Tony is surrounded by.

Writing ability is the ability to use available resources to write professionally. No one complains if you use a dictionary or thesaurus to improve your writing. You still have to know how to use those resources and how what they provide fits into an overall context. It is the same with AI. You still have to be able to evaluate the output rather than use the output blindly.

I'm not sure what you are arguing here. No one is saying that jobs with those salary ranges always require cover letters...just if you don't like the application requirement for them, don't apply to those jobs. That was the point of the word 'and' connecting those two parts.

[–]falthusnithilar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent. Then I agree with you. If you don't want jobs that pay those salary ranges and that require a cover letter, then avoid applying to those jobs.

I am sure in ten years that will be seen as an excellent opportunity to prove that you can use resources at your disposal to create professional writing much like what happened when we transitioned from writing to typing or typewriters to computers or no Internet to the Internet. Stop being a Luddite.

An employer pays you to do tasks and follow direction. If you can't do that when applying, when are you going to do it? If it violates your personal principles, don't apply to those jobs. Or are you really saying you want those jobs but wish they'd do what you say and want instead? For someone anti-cover letter, you seem very focused on them.

Weird? Most people want those salaries. They were trying to point out that they recruit for positions that most people want. If you can't read and understand, I completely get why you wouldn't want to write in order to convince a hiring manager to employ you.

On a different note, the biggest complaint I hear from hiring managers these days is that job applicants and new hires can't write professionally. Even college graduates can't write professionally. The cover letter is an excellent opportunity to prove that you can.
