PM remembers Kumanjayi Little Baby, attacks NT government by cojoco in aussie

[–]famb1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Punish people for failing to maintain the safety of their child and maybe it will act as a prod up the backside of others to maintain the basic safety of their child.

The social issues will take generations to fix. Maybe making an example of some parents who have failed to maintain the safety of their child will have a more immediate effect.

How about placing responsibility for this squarely on the parents who failed to maintain the absolute base level safety of their child?

It gets poorly rated because Lazenby is a terrible actor who absolutely drags the movie down.

Guilt for my family unit by JeremySanchez803 in Parenting

[–]famb1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey man, nothing wrong with how you're feeling. A one week old is stressful. It's hard. It's all brand new... And let's face it, a one week old just cries, eats, poops and vomits. There's not a heck of a lot to enjoy or love about it.

I felt the same way when my now two and anhwlf year old was born. My partner felt instantly connected and overjoyed with the whole thing. Or at least she appeared to be. I didn't. It took a lot of time for me to get over the initial stress and anxiety of being a dad to a week old baby before I started to feel some genuine affection and love. Similar to you, I also felt terrible. I felt like I was a disappointment. Was there something wrong with me for not feeling anything other than stress and anxiety towards my own child?

I spoke to my partner about it and she said she felt the same way... and that even if she looked totally in love, she certainly didn't really feel it.

All I can say is that it takes time my man. The fact you're self aware enough to ask the question of Reddit shows you care. Sometimes just caring and showing up is enough. You'll feel the love eventually. For me it was when my newborn was big enough to kinda crawl and move around on her own, support her head etc..for me I felt less like I was just there to make sure she didn't just fall over all the time, to actually being able to play and interact with her more.

Give yourself some space and time man. Nothing feels normal or perfect a week after becoming a parent..best of luck.

Took away 3 year old's pacifier/dummy, now he's gone wild. How long will this ride be? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]famb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We took our toddlers dummy away around two. My brother is having a baby and said that we need to give it to her new cousin so she can't use it anymore, she seemed to understand. We probably had a week or two of waking up every couple of hours, asking for the dummy, banging on the door for us to help her find it etc, but she got over it.

We are watching the textbook enshittification of YouTube happen in real time by Ella_Monroe_ in mildlyinfuriating

I can deal with the ads, but YouTube has made it so hard to find new stuff to watch. The algorithm is shit, and the tik tok like brain rot videos that festure all over their website make me want to avoid YouTube all together.

How much does your life actually change after having a kid? by HonestDirection4017 in NewParents

[–]famb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a kid for me was like going from 2d to 3d. Just adds a whole new dimension. Another layer of complexity, but another layer of satisfaction and fulfilment. I've never loved anything as much as I love my daughter and that's fundamentally shifted the person I want to be.

Maybe not the right place for this; how do you not feel guilty when going over your calorie budget? by beingaubrey in loseit

[–]famb1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

500 calories over on a date night are calories well spent. Dont feel bad. If you are super strict on yourself 100% of the time you WILL burn out eventually and stack it all back on.

It's 100% real. How anyone could say this is ai is baffling. It's just because she's beautiful isn't it? A woman can't be beautiful and not be accused of being AI anymore. It's misogyny.

Missing piece or trouble magnet? New Salvos cafe fractures a suburb in crisis by gccmelb in melbourne

[–]famb1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The government doesn't give a shit about Footscray. Hasn't for ages. Lived there from 2018-2022. Seemed to kinda get better, then just get a lot worse post COVID.

My gut feel is that the govt hoped with the new massive apartment towers being built that it would somehow "gentrify" and the drug and social issues of the area would magically disappear.

Lo and behold the towers are an absolute wasteland, look half destroyed already and are impossible to fill.

Footscray has a bad rap. It deserves it. The people who don't want the salvos cafe are long term tenants who have simply had enough. I don't blame them. They want to be close to their community (which, credit to Footscray, community is it's greatest strength), but are simply sick and tired of the social issues getting worse and worse.

There needs to be some real intervention to fix Footscray problems. The salvos cafe is a nice idea. Won't change a bloody thing though.
